I was a lawyer at 34.
Now I'm a "paralegal" although that's not really what I do, that's just my title so that I can be billed out at the rate they want.

I did this consciously. But my first job after I quit practice carried a salary of approximately 36 percent of my immediately preceding job.

I am not that motivated to be a "director, manager, supervisor, or leader". In my industry, that is the only way to make more money.

I make a lot less money, but I'm happy. I'll make more money as I get closer to tenure and with my writing/speaking engagements.
