Multiple people reported shot by gunmen at Quebec City mosque By Derek Hawkins January 29 at 10:07 PM
(Screen grab via Twitter) Multiple people were shot Sunday after gunmen opened fire on worshipers at a Quebec City mosque during evening prayers, authorities told local news organizations.
The mosque’s president told Reuters that five people were killed, but police had yet to confirm that number or that anyone was killed.
Witnesses said that as many as three gunmen fired at the Quebec City Islamic Cultural Center, according to the Montreal Gazette. A witness told Reuters that about 40 people were inside the mosque during the shooting.
Police tweeted that there had been a shooting at the mosque but offered no further details. Calls to police and the mosque were not immediately returned.
A Facebook Live video showed numerous police cars and ambulances surrounding the mosque, which was roped off with yellow police tape.
In June, someone left a pig’s head outside the mosque, CBC Radio-Canada reported at the time.
This is a breaking story and will be updated.
