"Small-but-important life lessons you've learned."

1. Always keep your eyewear on you when flying.

I left my contacts and solution in a checked bag on a flight that was cancelled over the summer. Wound up sleeping in the airport and had my contacts in my eye for about 24 hours. Then I was up unable to wear my contacts for the whole next day, which I really didn't want to do.

2. Always fill up your gas tank ahead of a hurricane.

After Sandy, I got to a gas pump and DIDN'T fill up my tank. I didn't get to another gas pump for 3 more weeks, on account of what happened with the storm messing up the gas supply chain. Couldn't do my usual grocery shopping routine on account of that. Never going to make that mistake again.

I'd also throw in "not getting involved in other people's business/drama/issues"

that way if you lose your car keys, you can still get into your house, and vice versa.

I just take them apart when I use 'em. House keys stay in the bag, car keys clipped onto the belt loop. But to your point, I get it.

Sometimes advice takes the form of "Try XYZ and if it doesn't work then be prepared to cut them off"

But nah... sometimes the correct answer is "Don't try shit, let them go"

• you can only *try* to be a good person (alot of folk ain't even doing that much) -

• we all can be pretty shitty people sometimes

• ain't no way nobody can have all the answers in this little blip of life

• life is kicking everybody's ass in its own special way

• life is SO proficient in the art of ass kicking -- i've resolved to offer it as little assistance as possible.

• ain't no fun when its YOU

• always try to be nice, but ALWAYS remember: people not nice

• you can lay the facts out as neatly as possible, but folk gone go back thinking wtf they want

• yt somethin' else (r.i.p. auntie gladys)

• can't put lipstick & pearls on a pig

• focus on your own bucket - don't focus on what's going on in nobody else's - unless they look like they need help filling it up

• always be open to the notion that you just might be wrong - about damn near anything

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

This one was learned the hard way in high school when I stood by a friend that had started acting out against all of our other friends. I naively thought he wouldn't lash out at me... until he did.

Lesson learned... ever since, when people *consistently* show me who they are, I believe them.
