"Late Pass - Showtime's Homeland"
Tue Dec-27-16 02:30 PM by Cenario

YOOOOOOOOOOO i just started watching this over the weekend. Watched all of season 1 over the last 2 days. That show is so goood. The season finale??? I've never been so nervous and on the edge of my seat for a tv show in my life.

Anybody watching this all the way through? Are the following seasons on point???? Please don't spoil tho.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

See that's what i was wondering.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

i mean, Season 1 is one of the best seasons of any TV show, all-time.

but S2 is VERY good, as is S5 imo.

and S4 is good, and S3 isn't horrible or anything, but it had some worthy critiques.

i think the show as a whole is great and it's worth it to stick it out.

continuing seasons is highly unrealistic plus i don't think i can handle it. lol

I often feel like shows stick around for 1-2 seasons too long, especially ones that have a singular central plot.

but last season (S5) was super ill.

only reason S3 was bad was they drug out the Brody story arc too long and in a couple sort of "oh c'mon" kind of ways, but it gets resolved and after that the show gets back to being really good.

I like the entire series, but I'd say season 3 was the weakest.

Season 2 and Season 5 are the best after Season 1.

Season 6 starts in 3 weeks.

edit: you do need to watch ALL of the seasons to understand the whole series.

I think that season 1 was the single greatest season of any show. The plot was creative and the twists are unpredictable. Season 2 is a good follow up and a lot of people knocked it but I thought it was great overall. Season 3 is a waste of time, and 4 and 5 are very well made.

I would watch it over again with someone who has not seen it and I would enjoy it all over again.

I had enough of Carrie's psychodrama act and the big reveal at the end of last season was TV trope 101, so I was out

but the trailer...I'm in at least for EP 1. Apparently the new POTUS is a Hillary/Trump hybrid. Writers hedging their bets and shit but Dar Adal= official.

No.

I've heard this argument that the jacket should have gone off, but I've always felt that was B.S.

As they used to quote during the show's intro, Carrie missed something on Sept. 11, and from that point on she determined she'd never miss anything like that again.

What made Carrie so good at her job wasn't just that she figured out that Brodie had really been flipped, but that she knew how to "stop" him. She figured out that the key to make him not go through with it was his daughter. If Brodie had talked to his daughter, and still blown himself up, then, well, Carrie wouldn't have been the genius intelligence analyst that she was purported to be.

Now, I'm of the opinion that Brodie should have been killed at the end of Season 1 anyway, by Abu Nazir's men. But to have him blow-up the bunker would have been an extreme mistake.

In response to Reply # 0

but as others have said, season 1 was a great, great season. One of the best of any modern drama. So it's hard to approach that level of quality.

That said, the other seasons were varying degrees of "good". Season 5 was definitely a rebound with the exception of a few moments.

But the show does fall on the wash, rinse, repeat formula with Carrie figuring out something's up. Nobody believes her. She goes rogue. She goes off her meds. Etc.

But despite all the cliches, tropes, and telegraphed plot twists, the show is very, very well made. It has great production values for a show and the location shoots gives it an air of credibility. Plus no matter how you're feeling about Homeland, there is always one or two episodes each season that leaves you in awe.

i'm like 8 episodes in...some scenes are a little annoying but i'm still hooked. Definitely a notch down from season 1 though.

I think the whole drama with the daughter was a bit of overkill but i guess they needed something to exacerbate the eternal drama with Brody. Still seems like a bit much that that would happen with the daughter while everything else was going on.

But i'm still hooked. I'm downloading episodes and watching on the train and during lunch smh.

But I tapped out after three or four seasons because some of the storylines felt too over the top for me to keep on watching. I'd love to see Clair Danes in other shows/movies based on how well she performed on this show though. Almost feel bad for giving up, but too much was too much for me at one point.

And i was like her acting is ammaaaaazing.

I also like that she's not good looking at all. At least in my mine she isnt. It shows that Brody's attraction and connection to her is way beyond physical. I think that woulda been lost if she was as good looking as jess

In any event, reason # 1,324,530 why you won't ever see me in a war.

Is basically a personification of America's paranoid attitude towards terrorism and the Middle East in general. It's superb.

We lost steam sometime in the middle of the last season, but expect we'll pick it back up again when this season has enough under its belt to warrant a binge or two.

Personally I felt the show didn't get any better after Season 3 and I dropped midway though 5 (though I think people viewed season 5 as a return to strong form).

I might come back to the show eventually... But it lost too many of the (psychological/paranoid) elements that made it so awesome in S01 and S02 and basically just turned into a kind of new version of 24 (a show I never cared for at all).

the finale are 2 of the best episodes of the show imo. I'm taking a break before season 5. Break being i ain't watch all weekend, lol. Goal being that i can spread out season 5 so i can binge season 6. (not likely)

Season 1 is definitely the best by far
i'm torn between season 2 and 4 as 2nd best.

Season 3 by far the worst.

So i'm about to watch another show on Showtime and ON demand and they are showing Brody's character in a commercial talking bout Who can you trust or whatever and i'm like NOOOOOOOOOOO, mad pissed that this spoiled it AND that Brody is alive somehow and then i realized it was for billions lol.

SEason 5 is eh so far...too many characters and new info to digest and process. I don't care for most of the characters and Carrie is getting annoying with some of her decision making. I expect it to pick up soon though.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

They better go somewhere with the Quinn business. I don't want to have him there just for Carrie to take care of him. They are dragging this out like Brody. If he doesn't get his assassin skills cooking again what is his purpose?

I'm guessing he gets caught up in some right-wing anti government steeze. He was in his room listening the Alex Jones rant about globalists and what not. So maybe that's their plan for him

I don't know how I feel about a show being so tied to events that are actually going on right now.

Saul was interrogating the Iranian dude about developing the nuclear program and the Iranian guy dropped:
"We don't even want nuclear weapons in Iran. You (US) sanctioned us. We just started spinning centrifuges and suddenly we are negotiating"

I was re-evaluating everything once he said that. Like:

Got to.

They got the whole transition with the new president (a woman, but whatever) and the distrust of the intelligence community. Outgoing President with a different agenda he's trying to push through before he leaves.
Iran's sketchiness with the nuclear deal.
I'm sure they got current CIA people feeding them storylines.

The Ep 5 trailer is bananas by the way. It's lit!!

his boy got made by Quinn at the mailbox, and either he didn't report that to Dar right away, or he did report it, and Dar let it ride. either way dude was blown. After that, Quinn followed him, and has an idea of what really went down.

Now what Dar needs to do is kill Quinn, but he's half-assing it by trying to turn him against Carrie instead.

Carrie's in danger and full of drama, Quinn is all kinds of fucked up, not to mention her Fed friend winding up dead didn't even come up.

she was just buggin cuz some dude was about to assassinate her in a dead FBI agent's house and she realizes that she's caught in some shit where it's not about the play play.

i seen worse moms IRL that are supposed upstanding members of society w/ their shit together. Carrie ain't that bad.

i'm just glad Homeland actually didn't try to write off her kid's existence this season like they had MOSTLY up to this point.

Dude is a cold-blooded, ruthless vato

Now it looks like it's going to be the A-Team (Saul, Quinn, and Carrie (+Max)) against Dar and now the Pres-Elect since I think she's buying what he's selling.
I hope that was holy water Quinn fell into, because I want him at full strength while he's getting his vengeance

And once again, this show is too true to life. Dar wants war with Iran just like Trump's people want to get busy with Iran.
Flynn hard a hard on for Iran, John Bolton wants to attack them, and I'm sure Bannon has some apocalyptic prophesy involving Iran.

He called that hitman after Quinn bopped him in the face. He was upset talking about "I didn't tell you to kill Quinn".
Hitman was like "THEY said he was a liability"

So whoever THEY is, they are in real control of this whole operation and Dar is kind of like a middle manager. Are THEY involved with that secret building?

because the Fed followed him there. I'm guessing some kind of secret council made up of intelligence peeps who see Madame Prez Elect as a threat, and a danger, with Dar as their point man.

Dar straight up told the prez elect, you don't want this beef. She said she's going put him in jail, and he was like:
http://img.pandawhale.com/post-59851-idi-amin-laughing-gif-imgur-3xRZ.gif

Is Alex Jones running thangs or is he just part of the machine? He had that picture of Quinn on his laptop and he told Dar don't worry about it. And Dar didn't even push him on it.

Final two episodes are gonna be lit. It seems like Saul was convinced to turn state's evidence instead of running, but I doubt that happens. They'll get some hard evidence on Dar before that happens.

i'm still trying to figure out the Alex Jones angle. i mean, i get the whole fake news storyline.

but what's really going on? because even Dar was surprised to see a pic of Peter on his shit. i mean, obviously the Carrie stalker spy dude has ties to that building because of the Jeep, and thus he could have hipped Alex Jones dude to Peter, but why?

the only thing i hate about this season is the whole Carrie's daughter storyline because c'mon, now the President elect knows what's going she can't flex on Carrie's behalf and get the kid
back into Carrie's hands? seems unlikely.

They tried to Inception her by trying to think she came to their way of thinking all on her own. But that's out the window. Now they are trying to strip her of power and delegitimize her (maybe kill her?)

I think they might try to frame Quinn for some shit and connect him to the president elect using their propaganda machine.

Yeah I'm confused about Alex Jones too. At some points it seems like he's doing his own thing. But other times he is taking orders from Dar.

Maybe Dar & Brett O'Keefe (Alex Jones) are together because they both are enemies of their enemy. (Pres. Elect)

So they may collaborate when their aims align, but they work on their own projects independent of each other.

So i'm assuming this is some kind of black ops safehouse/meeting place. It's where Quinn went when he was part of these type of operations, had a different crew, waitress doesn't know details but she knows they're military, and thinks Peter's name is Johnny.

Now hitman guy is part of (or head of) the new crew. They were involved in the bombing and setting up of Seiku(sp?)

Is that about right?

So I'm sure it'll turn another direction.

It looks like the black ops team is about to try to assassinate the pres-elect and frame Quinn somehow. Dar is going to go back to the "good guys" again for the sake of Quinn.

I'm still lost on who is in control of this whole thing. Somebody is ordering the black ops guys and I'm pretty sure it's not Dar.
Alex Jones doesn't seem shook at all. So I guess his curtain being pulled isn't a big deal.

hopefully them evidence photos those agents were taking at the house didn't get fried in the blast since the van did.

clearly this Alex Jones dude is being funded by some dark dark ops/deep deep pockets folks.

Do you think him being upset about Max snapping pictures of him and Alex Jones was a ruse of some sort?

Because they kidnapped Max from the interrogation room, threw him into the black van and took him straight to Dar to hack into Alex Jones' computer.
It seemed like the interrogation was all a show, and that Dar is on a mission to protect Quinn from whatever may be coming ever since he saw the picture on the computer

when he saw Quinn's pic, it became his primary focus. He played it off to Alex Jones like he was only mildly curious about the Quinn thing, and more mad about Max. because Dar's a pro at what he does. Same way he read Madame Pres elect so easily as trying to play him when they met that second time.

It felt dark as shit with the murder team with orders on high to kill the pres-elect. The general on the street telling them to finish the job. Quinn went out like a G (he better get Emmy hype)

It did play out like I thought though. I knew Dar was in on it, but not to lay the murder game down b.
It was a play that got out of his hands. But it was crazy how deep the web was. Senators, generals, high level folks. And then Alex Jones still at it.

The dark turn by the President was wild too. It seemed like she trusted Carrie more than anything. But I guess in the end, Carrie is really just one of them (the Intel Community) and can't be trusted. She played Carrie then went into full on purge mode.
I want to say Dar was right (he said there was something un-American about her), but he kind of drove her to this. She wasn't this paranoid before you got to her.

I'm already ready for the next season. Is Carrie going to go rouge to take down the pres and get her people out of the gulag? She was eyeing the capitol building like she might get her Brody on (bomb vest time? lol)

we are about to see Senator Matheson and then President Matheson?

obviously, she's out of a job and needs something to do. she's has values that she's willing to fight for. she's obviously a patriot. yes, she has some personal demons, but she's also got the experience inside the government to get shit done, especially when it comes to foreign relations.

i just saw her eyeing the capitol in that was as the only way i can fight the president now is to become part of the system and either make it hard on her OR take her job...and you know Carrie don't just let shit go especially when she gets stabbed in the back.

anyways...maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan, RIP Peter Quinn (whose name is really not even Peter, right - it's John?)

anyways, i knew they had to off him cuz we could only watch disabled Peter for so long. we were never gonna get our super soldier back although disabled Peter was still fucking some shit up.

I suspect that her route to derail the Pres will be more covert

i mean, does anyone know that it's Brody's kid for sure? they could find out that she had her kid taken away though, that's for sure.

definitely the mental health shit.

maybe they can find some way to write around it that makes sense.

you could be right, maybe she could be more covert i just don't know how at this point. i don't see any avenues for that, and if there was a way for her to get into congress there are a lot of protections she could shield herself behind as long as she's mostly operating on up and up.

the biggest hitch in that story line is that it takes at least 2 years to become a member of congress. she'd have to drum up support, run a campaign, etc. i'm not sure how that would be interesting in the context of the past 6 seasons.

I think there were hints of Madame pres not being about shit dropped here and there. like the way she just took the Berlin thing to the solicitor general.. something i believe Carrie told her in confidence. Now she doesn't have the balls (word to Saul) to face Carrie. especially given that if not for Carrie, she'd be worm food.

Also, what was Max on about when he came home drunk? Was that about Quinn?

I'm pretty hyped for next season now, and I haven't felt that way about this show in a while (though i only caught up/started watching about 2 years ago)

it's LIT again
I was about ready to give up on the show, but I couldn't quit. I'm too invested.

*********SPOILERS BELOW (but not really)*************

They had a whole storyline about Carrie's personal life and custody issues. Ain't nobody got time for that! It literally put me to sleep.

I didn't really even care about the president's issues. She could stay or go. It doesn't make a difference.

Once they got that Russian operative dude in the mix, it got right back on track. We got Carrie scaling Russian Intelligence buildings and switching wigs. Saul out there running plays again.
This last episode (Season 7 Ep 11) is what Homeland is all about.

I heard they are doing one more season after this and then they're done.

every time it started getting good it got bad again

they waited way too long to give us Dar back, and we didn't get much. We're badly missing Quinn, they phased out fake Alex jones and everything else that was good about last season, and left us with Franny/Carrie's sis drama, and a bunch of nonsense. The tyrannical president angle which was a crazy promising end to last season fizzled out, and her drama is sprikled with pointless details like David admitting he has a crush on Madame pres. Aside from the Russian story being fairly consistent, the rest has been all over the place.

that said, I'm there for the finale and for next season haha

I was so happy that the vice-president (pres at the time) wasn't going for the senator's bullshit.

Corny moment with the speech when the President Keane resigned. I don't like my entertainment preaching at me.

Crazy Carrie is at her craziest now. I wonder how the next (and final) season will start out? I hope it's not 4 episodes of her recovering before the spy stuff gets started.

her to actually had had to kill saul but thus save the day and then have to live with the guilt but still feeling like she did the right thing.

But Im not mad at how they got it done.

i wanted her to have to kill Saul, but save the day in Pakistan.

then, some sort of brief examination (i know the series has to end in about 20 or 30 minutes, lol) of how she AND the country reconcile that she had to kill the CIA Director to "save the world."

and, i thought they were actually going to do that, or some version of that.

but, i still really liked what they did.

but i kind of prefer what they did, since I didn't think there was any way she could redeem herself in the eyes of Saul. Publicly becoming this Snowden like traitor figure for the cause was was pretty much Carrie's version of Martyring herself.
