Hate to say it but I actually enjoy the weekend updates this past year, not sure what you were getting out of SNL these days (the show been ran into the ground to the point it's below the roots) it's almost like watching those political piano playing comedians on PBS that have the driest humor ever.

Based on the dope ass promo, it seems they changed things up at SNL and that excited me as a steady fan of SNL for a long time – even managed to be an intern there for a minute.

The premise is Trump and Obama’s transition meeting at the White House.

Darrell Hammond (or whoever the show’s going to go with to be Trump going forward because I don’t see Alec being Trump full time) enters as Trump with Cecily Strong as Melania. Crowd reaction is mixed because Darrell’s good, but people loved Alec Baldwin. Trump is telling Melania all the things he would do, while Melania suggests she’ll grow a garden and get a bicep machine - whatever Michelle did. A few more laughs.

Sasheer enters as Michelle and Melania mimics everything she does. Michelle picks up on it. Melania says “I will follow. If you go low I will go high.” Michelle rolls her eyes and tells Donald “Barack will see you now, head in your new office.” (it literally pained me to write "your new office")

Donald heads in and starts talking a little shit. When it’s time for Obama to speak, the reveal is that it’s Jordan Peele as Obama. Crowd goes nuts. It’s also good on another level because I like Key and Peele and the idea that Chappelle has beef with them would be squashed through this dope ass sketch.

Obama speaks civilly, but Luther his anger translator pops out and says the shit Obama wishes he could say. Crowd goes nuts for Keegan.

Trump says “I see how we’re playing this” enter Alec Baldwin as Angry Trump. Crowd goes nuts again. Also it eases Alec out of that role.

Along the way, Hillary is seen in the office window looking in. Obama says she’s been there the last couple days, but he hasn’t had the heart to send her away. He decides to let her in if she promises to be quiet. Kate goes through a few "I don't believe it"s.
Donald asks a few basic questions like "so what does the president do?" Kate gets more and more frustrated. At some point, she refers to it as 9/election (but in NYC, maybe not, I find it to be a funny line)

They go back and forth til LIVE FROM NEW YORK, IT’S SATURDAY NIGHT!!

http://www.newsobserver.com/entertainment/tv/warm-tv-blog/article114508293.html

In a statement, Hammel said:

WRAL-TV has a station obscenity, decency and profanity policy that outlines 10 specific words that will not be broadcast on our air. This policy is based on our own standards in combination with FCC guidelines. Our broadcast operators have a 10-second delay button they can choose to use. During Saturday Night Live on NBC, guest host Dave Chappell used 2 of those words on 9 different occasions and they were silenced. Obviously, SNL is a live show so we had no prior indication about what would be said during the broadcast. We understand this caused disruption during the program. We wanted our audience to know this was a station decision, not the network's, and why we made that choice.

Viewers in other markets – from Philadelphia, Dallas, New York and Greenville, N.C. – reported on Twitter that their broadcasts were not interrupted.

First skech was ok but had poor pacing and relied on the Chris Rock cameo.

Relying on Chappelle Show characters was lazy.

Using the bar sketch was lazy.

The breast milk sketch wasn't funny. Neither was the other Leslie Jones sketch.

The post sketch press conference went nowhere.

Shit, I even thought Tribe was sloppy. Thought they would've been more creative and organized than that for a come back especially considering how dope the album is. The Phife picture was dope though.

Best part was the Leonard Cohen tribute and Dave's monologue which should've just went for the full show as he was warming up.

His characters skit went on way too long. They missed a great opportunity to give each character a 30 second clip and sprinkled them through the show. Ending of the skit was wack too.

Breast milk one was aiight.

The rest were typical SNL. I thought the news segment was funny. Always liked that skit.

Tribe started off a little sloppy but it caught fire quickly. I love that beat and the chorus is gangster

Fell asleep on the second song. Did they flip to Dis Generation? I saw Busta and Consequence

Chappelle stand up is legendary.

Biggest laugh for me was the opening monologue...the bit about Obama coincidentally becoming president when he got rich was hilarious.

I'd prefer a pure 90 minute stand-up. Perhaps that's next for Dave.

It was cool, but not sure where all of these superlatives are coming from.

Monologue was dope. Walking Dead shit was good for nostalgia purposes only. Tribe was fine.

Kind of a middle of the road SNL episode to me.

This episode was just as wack as all the others.

Dave's monologue was good and so was The Walking Dead.

Everything else sucked. Not even close to being funny.

I enjoyed Daves monologue but the rest of the show was painful to watch. SNL is so corny and has never been funny to me. I also found Tribes performances to be somewhat awkward, I enjoyed them regardless...

the best thing on TV.

To think it's current state of existence, is the state that it has always had, is equivalent to thinking that Black people have always been subservient in the world, because that's predominantly their current state of existence.

Bigsby.

A skit of Bigsby biggin' up Trump and goin' in on Black folx and everyone not WASP, would've right on time.

That skit with all of his most memorable skit characters, was ...kind of, ehhh...but Clayton by himself, would've been beyond hilarious.

It would have had the potential to go down as the funniest SNL skit, ever.

the highs were REALLY high.

even the low points (breast milk & barfly skits) were crass and ham-fisted in a way that was hilarious.

20 yrs ago we would've never imagined chappelle would be swapping spit w/ kate mckinnon in the most obscene fashion imaginable. on nbc. all in the name of comedy.

again. that shit was hilarious.

Still mad at Dave for leaving the Chappelle show and wasn't going to watch the monologue. The he started ranting about election and how his white GF was crying.

He finally watched it and stfu about his criticism of Dave.

I've been thinking that this election can end up driving a wedge between black people and progressive types and DC's monologue and that first skit kind of touched on that.

Nothing illustrates that better than a black dude mad at Chappelle and his white girl crying over th election.

So he isn't all that upset at the tax breaks he might be getting. It's funny how money can change a persons political views.

Don't get me wrong, he wanted Hillary to win but the convo with his girl was this:

White gf: we gotta move out the country (real tears)
Black man: ehhh, you realize you are still white? You can leave me tomorrow and marry a white dude and be good.

i told him to watch the monologue and the first skit. He killed it.

Another comedian tried to shit on Trump and was so long winded the jokes never hit with me.

Chappelle chops redwood trees down with one swing with his jokes.

He did a show a week before the election where the alt right tried to spin his jokes into being pro Trump. He admitted he voted for Hilldawg in the skit but it still showed how woke he was with this election.

I wonder if that stems from being able to control so much on his own show and then having to deliver a lot of unfunny material under someone else's guidance here....

Dave was great, Chris was great, Tribe was great, Update was great...some of the sketches were just plain awkward to watch...it's like someone watched some current Adult Swim "comedies" and decided to bring that awkward humor to SNL.... the kids sketch was great as was the election one....TWD sketch worked because of the adlibs from our favorite characters....

All in all, I good show considering the writing...
