i myself would never want to be god,or even like god.Because god got all these human beings on this planet and i most certainly would not want to be responsible for them, or even have the disgrace that i made them.

As much as I miss my family I'm not going home for the holidays. I can't risk seeing him right now.

it bothers me that a select few think because I laugh and joke with some of the men here, means I like them. Let me be clear, "we family" . I can find humor in a lot of things.

ladies, if you haven't sung Beyoncé's "Sorry" with your BFF, it's so much fun. lol
I almost forgot we did that...drunk

I hate hurting people feelings.

but i'll chill with the jokes.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

I saw that post. I actually felt more rejected from this place than ever before.

I hadn't really left on purpose. Life was just getting kind of crazy. But now I don't really want to be here anymore, which is just...
I've been here since 2003. I'm not even a charter member, but in a way, I grew up here. But it's obviously not the same place.
Luckily I've managed to find most folks on Facebook.

this year doesnt feel as difficult as it's been mainly because I try to keep a positive outlook, always joke about shit and figure it out. marriage is a whole different phase and Im only in year 3, post college I stumbled countless times professionally and with dating, so it's a matter of staying patient and always working to make everything better

I hit the wall of mental/emotional exhaustion (mostly work related) 2 weeks ago and Im still not recovered

Yesterday this (white) girl had a meltdown at work because we're understaffed and overworked. I most certainly share her sentiment but it wont be me showing my ass and flipping out on people

I've been successful this year in other parts of life, I just wonder if I've reached my ceiling

Solange really might have one of the best albums of 2016 when you consider the topic material and how relatable it is

I legit dont care about people's opinions when they have to let me know they disagree with the things I enjoy, this isnt debate team.

Im not voting next week.

I stay away from negative energy more and more these days, that includes speaking my mind less

one of these internet dickheads will read all of this and try to paint a picture of me being sad or not having a decent life, fortunately that kind of shit doesnt affect me

I'm just commenting here since the post was locked:

atruhead - the "hopefully not" in the post about the Tribe album was obviously a joking reply to the (joking?) reply about Georgy Porgy.

but man, that whole discussion appears to have you upset.

let the man be upset (to the point of being annoying - to you all) about finding out that a group whose music I assume he has enjoyed in the past recorded a song with some hateful lyrics by which he can't abide by.

for reference:

thanks to social media, I have learned Al DiMeola is an asshole of a fragile ass white man when it comes to the art of Black people who dare to criticize the evil parts of society that affect them (in this case, Beyonce with the video for "Formation"), PLUS he Jessed* the fuck outta Return to Forever's reunion tour. Fuck him twice.

Now when I listen to his music I'm forced to Cuban B the man behind it.

shit like this is (one reason) why this place is tumbleweeds. people not knowing when/how to Cuban B.

I'm actually blown by the fact legs had the audacity to post a question with an obvious ass answer and that it had that many replies.

SMH.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

SW perfectly timed his garbage ("Im glad Phife is dead") around interfering with people's initial excitement about the new album

SW had two other posts (one in the Lesson, one here) he could have chosen to push back up, he chose to push mine back up about the album's confirmed release date. not only did he do that, he pushed my post up to ask "will this song Im mad about be a bonus song?"

SW is a troll and Im sorry he seems to have you convinced otherwise

In response to Reply # 9

SoWhat's been giving quick 'fuck you' to posts for a minute; but its only the tribe post that has everyone hopping on white horses swords drawn towards the middle of the fray.

All things considered he's perfectly within his right to feel that they were a bunch of assholes as an opinion. Its only because we take extra offense because it's tribe, the alpha and omega for us music nerds on the boards, that those posts spiral out of control...everyone trying to convince him he needs to get over such a specific and hateful song basically aimed at him.

Looking at it for the outside if you guys let him millyrock the topic would have been over, but everyone's trying to convince him that he's wrong where ultimately, like Dr. Claw says above, he's not.

Just sayin' he made his point in 2 forums. While I agree it can be ignored or shrugged off but you know what he was trying to do...lol.

I didn't see why the post needed to be locked but whatever.

Dude actually said he hoped it wouldn't be on the album. I laughed.

We got a zillion Trump related things popping on the boards but nobody cares.

I know what he's trying to do, but thats the point, lol.

His replies would go double wood if it wasn't filled with people telling him he ain't got a right to feel that way, which is pretty preposterous. Meanwhile we ain't giving old racists a pass even if they were dope musicians.

I hate the whole race=sexuality thing but I figure he feels the same way when I lurk on other boards and the white people give the 'shrug' to some racist shit because they don't see it as big deal and Ill be snarking the fuck outta em too.

- he could have been offended and expressed it rationally

- he did it in a way intended to upset people

- he got what he wanted only to double back and play the victim

- I cant believe people want to make him the victim

'one of em is dead, so give em a pass' etc.

>- he did it in a way intended to upset people

Only reason why people got upset is because we are caught in the feels for who they were to us, but logically its no different then if a popular dead rock star was found to say nigga nigga nigga. Morrisey is racist as fuck towards asians (probably blacks too) and as a Smith's fan if he got hit with a truck id be sad, but I wouldn't be mad at a dude saying fuck his whole life, nahmean?

If Bono wrote a little number when he was a wee lass in Ireland called 'I Hate The Mexicans' we would still be asking him questions about it in 2016 (and he would most likely be extremely apologetic about it in between hits of awesome cokes and getting dome from the finest of models).

>I wish I would still be posting here in 2025 with someone mad
>I snarked them in 2001

The reason we can just say, 'Ehh, its just like old shitty posts' is why I see he gets mad. Its not a case of something you did spur of the moment in your youth..shit it wasn't even for them!

When they were told it was a 'bad idea' from the label they made a song about how the record labels fuck with them! LOL. They took it personally at the time (unlike most of our shitty posts). And the thing is, we want to believe they moved on from those views but we don't know, do we.

SoWhat's point exposes less about homophobia (or tribe for that matter) than empathy imho. If were were like more posts like Dr.Claws and less 'Who cares, it was a long time ago' there would be no issue.

In response to Reply # 28

but first i need some proof that the group has grown beyond the ugliness expressed in 'GP'. i have not seen any. every time i post on the subject i ask someone to show me som'n where the group addressed their (past?) homophobia and/or commented on 'GP'. so far no one has anything.

so i'm left thinking that's still where they are. which is a damned shame.

and i think ppl get extra defensive (though i haven't attacked any of them on this issue, i think) b/c maybe they're in their own feelings about being such fans of a group that made a record that nasty. maybe they're conflicted at least a little bit and so they're lashing out. i dunno. maybe not. either way - they can attack the messenger all they want but it doesn't change 'GP' or Tribe's homophobia and ugly anti-gay stance as expressed on that record (and 'Oh My God', of course).

fuck you.

You can blow up Tips twitter if you really want to know.

But I think 20 years later and no other songs like that on any of their albums should be enough proof.

The reason you catch heat over it is because you keep asking okp like WE can answer for Tribe.

It's 2016, be about it if you are really that curious to know. Don't lie to us tho if you haven't put in work to find out from the source.

In response to Reply # 46

made back in the 90s.

it's more than just a song.

it'd be one thing if this were just a throw away line like Phife's 'anti batty boy' thing. but it's 4 verses all of them pretty deeply anti-gay. only 2 of those verses are from Tribe but they all stay right on topic. i can't think of another anti-gay 90s rap record that went THIS deep.

so it's more than 'just a song'.

but look, man...clearly Tribe means a lot to you b/c otherwise i don't know why you seem to take this so personally or why 'GP' and my posting about it seems to set you off in the way it does. i'm sorry you feel that way but i'm not sorry i've posted about it and i'm going to continue doing so when i think it's appropriate. you can stay in your feelings and i can't control that but this continued back and forth about this will not accomplish anything. so i suggest you stop it and just let the posts go w/o comment. or you can keep doing what you're doing here and you'll get the same response from me. your choice.

fuck you.

your sentiment would be valid if it wasn't rooted in parade pissing and you didnt bring it up in my unrelated post as opposed to the other two you already made

you of all people saying "let's stop discussing this" is rich, keep pretending your feelings are hurt about the song for empathy from a place you hate posting

Miles Davis made go music so he's ok.

Etc and so one.

Also, that Tribe song was never released.

Maybe this is real shit to him but I think it's faux outrage because he knows people love Tribe and it will get folks heated.

as i keep saying...i'm putting it out there b/c i want to know if someone here knows something about Tribe addressing the song. also b/c ppl who post here might have some connection to the group - maybe someone might put a bug in their ear about it. also to inform folks so they know who they're 'supporting' w/their $ should they decide to do so.

but i am not trying to 'upset' any fans. i'm not 'trolling' Tribe fans w/this. that's not the goal at all.

really i'd be thrilled to learn that Tribe apologized or otherwise walked back this anti-gay shit. i have repeatedly said as much.

Now what?

Is it over or will you continue to bam up Tribe post?

This record is like Eminem recording a record screaming nigger when a black girl dumped him. Dude from the source ruined his lil non career and ruined a magazine trying to make people care about that song.

It's not even a good song and the production was garbage.

If this is your life's work then I feel you but the timing of it (phifes death) seems a little hacky.

and so far it seems they haven't addressed it.

i wonder if they'll ever address it.

w/o them commenting on that song i'm left to believe that's the group's stance on us gay folks. especially since Phife and Tip doubled down on it in 'Oh My God' - both the record (which was censored) and the video (where Tip mouthed the censored homophobic content).

so...yeah.

as i keep saying - Tribe is my 2nd favorite rap group. well, maybe they were my 2nd favorite. i dunno. if that's still where they are on this gay shit then fuck them. but if they've grown beyond that i'd really appreciate knowing that.

btw...this is 'it' for those who may not be up on what's being discussed:

Tribe made one of the ugliest most homophobic records of all time and submitted it for release on The Low End Theory. Jive allegedly refused to release it so the group remade it as 'Show Business'. the song, 'Georgie Porgie' has leaked and is available on YouTube.

I don't know how much of that he means, but "cry about it" in response to "I think these dudes should apologize about making a song with hateful lyrics toward a group of which I am a member" was meant to be disrespectful.

disrespect begets disrespect. hence that comment.

he was responding to the "cry about it"

which was basically saying "how dare you be offended at homophobia from 25 years ago, gay man. drink this Kool-Aid and STFU"

if he needs to hear some sort of contrition regarding that homophobia before he wishes to continue consuming their art, that's his prerogative.

and it's not like we're dealing with something trivial. that's dude's life. same as Phife's life. they were offsetting comments.

now had he said this shit in the RIP Phife post, or w/o those comments then I'd be like, "he on some bullshit"

this is like laughing at Alex Jones saying "pee pee" without knowing that he was saying it in response to Eric Andre trolling him about said "pee pee"

you just wanna keep derailing this CW post, huh?

i'm happy to do so b/c i'm a troll as you've pointed out and i've admitted, but what about you? why are you doing this?

if you're defending your heroes by attacking me where i've admitted i'm vulnerable (hurt by 'GP' and Phife's 'anti batty boy' line) then you're doing a piss poor job. b/c it's not like you've claimed Tribe didn't rap those words. or that you have proof that they no longer hold that sentiment. attacking me where i'm admittedly vulnerable doesn't gain anything for Tribe. and it makes YOU look like the troll here. the bully. and yes it casts me as the 'victim' - for which you deride me only making you even more bully.

so i dunno your end game. you've ruined CW. you've bullied me. congrats?

Since you said you sent a message to Q Tip regarding the song, why don't we send Tip a link to the very post where you said his peoples Phife deserves to be dead and let him know that it was you that wrote it?

Let's see if Tip reacts exactly the same way as everyone else in that thread or if he comes back like "Well, within the context of the conversation..."

We say fuck people's lives all the time here. For us Phife is infallible because he made the soundtrack of our childhoods. We say fuck the dead all the time on the boards if they offended us. Imho all the hubub is because we did the math in our heads and songs we like/nostalgia is more important then hateful homophobia. Which is cool, white people do it all the time to us, lol. Ain't nobody running to get rid of John Wayne movies.

Lets be honest with it as opposed to defending Pfife's honor

Welp, I'm still riding with Eminem as being one of the greatest lyricists of all time and will continue to enjoy his music even though he made an unreleased joint with all the shit he said on it about "black bitch" and "nigga" on it. Yeah he apologized for it, but even before he did that I was like "That shit was how long ago??? FOH That ain't Em today".

And that's what SoWhat has to come to terms with: It was twenty-some odd years ago. He ain't the same person he was in '91, I ain't the same person I was back then, shit I doubt ANYONE is the same person they were that long ago. They made a song, it never got released and as far as I know they never did anything like it again; end of the story. They don't need to apologize for it, they've moved on from that moment and so should we.

In response to Reply # 64

i didn't make that comment in a vacuum.

as for the fuller context - if i recall correctly i had learned not too long b4 about Phife's 'anti batty boy' line in 'Oh My God' which was censored in my copy of Midnight Marauders. and the 'GP thing was pretty new to me. so i was in my feelings for sure. and yeah hl had come at me as he did as had several others and so i went hard in response.

notice i brought none of it to the 'RIP Phife' post.

if i were the troll these ppl say i am i would've been up in there w/that. but i didn't b/c i'm not who they say i am.

fuck you.

duh.

so if that's what you're after - sure. i posted something provocative to draw attention to 'GP' in the hope that someone who knows would respond telling me Tribe had addressed that song in an interview or a lyric or som'n similar.

no doubt.

You don't have to click on every thread

You don't have to respond to every post you disagree with

You don't even have to be here

Anyone who has a problem with a question or how many replies it gets can eat a dick sideways.

You take this shit way too serious

The you I'm talking to is...

YOU!!!

there was a good divide between the light hearted and serious post
that line has kind of been blurred which was off putting at one point
there would be a jokefest abby and desus post where you could get snark off
but a serious post with Vex that I could write a paragraph and get a thoughtful and articulate response and have real discourse
the separate worlds on one message board was what kept me here so long
now those those things have merged and both are lacking
can't joke and can't be taken to seriously
which is why im more poster driven than topic driven nowadays

I just throw topics and news stories on here. If it pops, cool... if it drops, cool

Throws me off how people act like they are forced to click on topics that they think are shitty.

Just move onto a topic that interest you or post your own and asked for it to be locked if someone hurts your feelings.

people just throw up stuff and aren't invested in what they are saying and how they are speaking to people
miss it
Reunion would never happen now because the way people post and talk is with the intention they will never meet or never want to meet

had to stop investing emotions here because most of the newer posters dont intend on having a relationship outside of this board

by way of example...

there was a lady at work
(back home)
that would make fun of the way I wrote/talk
one during an training session, she mentioned how she hated when people didn't speak proper English. she was sitting next to me. The person doing the training said to her, "you have to work that out yourself. Just because you're the English major...you can't expect everyone to be"

or something like that...

I still read all the posts in The Lesson and in GD about 80% but when it comes to replying or making a comment it's about maybe 5% of the time here & there, most of the time what I have to say isn't needed and sometimes others already type what I would've said anyways.

I'll say Okayplayer is mines, but I try to stay away from the arguments around here.

and being in Mississippi would give me the opportunity to do my research. I'm just not sure how my family would adjust, finding new schools for the kids would be a headache. My husband would also need to find a position down there. I'll probably have to pass on this position and find a grant to do my research over the summer.

Even with my little PS, it's still P/A. Like writing an angry note and leaving it on a telephone pole down the street from the person you're angry with.

36. "I reconciled with my brother after he got catfished in real time"
In response to Reply # 0

He said some stupid shit right before Christmas last year that was basically the straw that broke my back and I wrote him off. One major factor in his demeanor was his soul-sucking parasite of a girlfriend. He couldn’t and wouldn’t go anywhere or do anything without her and he catered to her every whim. They lived together over the last year.

Of course, she doesn’t work or go to schoo because she has no ID or birth certificate and can’t get it because she was born in Japan or some shitl. She doesn’t cook, clean, or anything. Except smoke weed, that is. She does do that an awful lot. My sister and I let him know things weren’t adding up with her, but he predictably rejected that light intervention .

So she went off to Vegas to visit a “family friend”, then “lost her bus ticket” so he hit up our sister, who had also written him off after the same incident, to take him to Vegas to pick her up. She no-showed.

So he went back home after a few hours trying to get ahold of her. I’m still waiting for the full breakdown here but the gist is that her story completely unraveled after this. She supposedly had a five-year-old child (she’s twenty) that she lost custody of. Turns out she has no kids. Apparently her name was fake too. Basically everything he “knew” about her was an elaborate lie for which there was no discernable reason. Who she was, where she was from, all of her backstory turned out to be a lie.

All this went down a week before his 21st birthday. He wanted to hit a bar and asked our sister to take him but she wasn’t having it. I decided to reach out. To my surprise he actually accepted. The bar didn’t happen though, we wound up at this family pizza joint with my wife and kids. Went back to the crib and played some NBA 2K16 for a few hours and I took him home.

He said he finally saw the issues my sister and I have with our mom and his father first hand. He said once he got a full time job and paycheck, he saw how much they held their hand out. He finally saw the way our mom spews venom in all directions at all of her children for doing nothing more than living their lives without subsidizing hers. He finally realized what a shameless mooch his father is and got the fuck out.

He also said he realized what he had lost in our sister and me. My kids don’t know him and he doesn’t know them, for one. I apologized for going so hard after he said what he said last year but he shut that down. He said he needed to hear it because he wanted anyone to blame but his parents, though he admitted he might not have come around until he saw what we were warning him about with his parents and his girl first hand.

I was surprised to hear that he tended to brush off my invitations to him because he felt intimidated by me. He said I was always doing things for him and that there was no way he could “pay that back”.

That was jarring, because it illustrated the sort of warped definition of family adhered to by our mom and his dad. He viewed our relationship as transactional, as quid-pro-quo.

He saw basic acts of my big brother kindness and love as a debt to repay. How fucked up is that? I did my best to redirect and explain that that’s not how this works. If I invite him over for dinner or offer to teach him how to do something or take him to a movie or some shit… that’s because he’s my baby brother and I want to do things for him out of love and a desire to further develop that bond. He conflated those acts with my firm stance on no longer being his parents personal taxi cab, atm machine, and shelter provider. I had to explain the difference between the two. He seemed to understand but old habits and whatnot.

So how knows, hopefully we can develop a solid relationship now.

Obviously there's no pressure to share, but I am curious for a little exposition, particularly how my story relates.

To a point. As I've learned over the years nothing is off limits, so I always share knowing someone will probably try to use it as a punchline down the road.

just like your brother this young man has a very similar parent (mom, no dad)
an emotionally and financially draining, self-centered LEECH
and i COULD NOT understand why he always feels like he doesnt want anyone to do anything for him
and he feels like he always has to be able "repay" or just not accept anything from anyone
he doesnt know what an actual loving relationship is like
again, thank you

97. "We’ll see. There are nine of us and none of us are close..."
In response to Reply # 71

...to more than two siblings

By my count there’s only one sibling with any kind of relationship with at least three others. Hell there’s never been a time where all nine of us have been in the same room together. I’m the oldest and once I grew tired of being, in whole or in part, the sole connecting tissue between everyone, stopped placating and enabling foolishness, laziness, and fuckery and stopped being an endlessly understanding resource, there was nobody else trying to create anything resembling a real family.

At this point my guess is things really won’t change, though I suppose his relationship with me and one other sister would be the most likely to change. I’m hopeful but passively, more of a wait and see, because there is one constant in this development: I made the effort.

People look at me sideways when I say that I’ve got no qualms going cold turkey on people but the only reason that comes into play is because there’s no resistance. I.E, if I don’t call or come by, there’s no interaction at all. When I “cut people out” of my life, that just means I simply cease sending communication. Since there’s no incoming communication, the effect is just the same.

He’s the exception to that, actually. I did tell him I was done dealing with him, but even that was sparked by him getting a little too full of himself and throwing darts at me about things he had no understanding of. Still, the sole efforts to reconcile came from me on two occasions this year, once in February that drew platitudes and radio silence until my most recent outreach attempt. What’s odd is that he did reach out to our sister, who is actually harsh to the point of being entirely unreasonable.

So while I’d like to see a relationship develop out of this my gut tells me that things will simply proceed as they were, only without the animosity. I can live with that though. I know I’ve made an effort to do right by him and make sure he knows he has real family who neither wants or needs anything from him aside from his presence. Anything else is an unexpected bonus.

I don't know why it's so hard for me to believe. Every time I'm praised, I respond with "Oh! Really?"
I can't believe I'm doing so well. It was just such an unexpected opportunity.
I'm going to go as far with it as I can. So I think I'm getting ready to leave my
old job, even though I actually really liked it. I love the people I worked with
and just went to see them today. We're a little too attached to each other, lol.
But hopefully I'll soon be able to actually afford being a customer there
so I can see them often... from the other side of the counter!
Really though, I just want to be able to afford a decent, simple life and help my parents at the same time.

I'm still crazy lonely. But not as alone as I sometimes think.
In fact I actually am considering getting a decent phone to keep up.
But that doesn't change the fact that, right now, I don't *really* have anyone
to celebrate my life successes with or to go to when things take a downward turn.

I could just shut myself inward and go back to leading such a cloistered life
that I forget how to even talk to people. But I don't feel like it's time to do that anymore.
Too bad nobody else got the memo. Or maybe I'm just still in the wrong place
and nothing will improve until I get the eff outta here. Which I'm working on, but ugh.

The loneliness bit is scary since it seems like that’s a consistent beat for you.

I hope you find a way out of that place. Clearly OKP isn’t really helping you on that front but I certainly hope you find some closeness somewhere, with someone, in a way that brings you some joy. Whenever I see your name in a post like this I hope to see some progress on that end.

I have close friend who consistently expresses similar feelings of loneliness, so that’s probably why I’m always so taken with your posts on the subject. She drives me up the wall since she consistently feeds into that loneliness. She recently up and moved to China for crying out loud, like that’s going to help her not feel so lonely.

On that note I’m curious. Do you drive your own loneliness in that way? Do you actively isolate yourself from those who love you? I’ve been there and understand how and why my friend does that. For me it was sort of like burrowing yourself in ice for warmth. It seems counter-intuitive but it proved to be a surprisingly effective defense mechanism for me, but it’s definitely not what I consider a healthy long term solution.

Anyhow… be well. Glad to hear the new job is working out.

>The loneliness bit is scary since it seems like that’s a

It really is. When I step back, it's kind of amazing that it's been so consistent for so long.
I sometimes wonder if this is just my life and I need to find a way to gracefully accept that.

>I hope you find a way out of that place. Clearly OKP isn’t

>some closeness somewhere, with someone, in a way that brings

I sincerely appreciate that. OKP helped in a way, since I was at least able to talk
with people more like me while stuck in a town that had nothing for me. I may not have
formed any super close friendships here, but I won't even be greedy about it.
I've met some really wonderful people here and the fact that I can still talk to them
after all these years is a gift that isn't lost on me.

>On that note I’m curious. Do you drive your own loneliness
>in that way? Do you actively isolate yourself from those who
>love you?

Maybe? Not necessarily from those who love me. I kind of can't get away from them, lol, but
my personality is so odd to them, it's hard to be really close. "Sepia is just weird like that"
is kind of how they see me, so they think I'm cool in my own way but they don't really understand it.
If that makes any sense...?

The most disappointing thing is that, when I finally do seem to connect
with someone on that elusive high level... they betray me. Invariably.
And yet I'm still out here trying to be open to a connection.
This openness is new to me, which might be why the loneliness seems so strong right now.

Anyway, I feel like I'll be alright no matter what. If I know how to do anything,
it's struggle through to the other side. So I'ma keep it up. Things could be so, so
much worse than they are. They have been.

If I remember correctly, I have seen you mention on this board that you suffer from anxiety, and then there is the feeling of loneliness.

I have suffered from both too, but now I no longer do. The feeling of loneliness felt so mysterious to me, I didn't know what to do about it. Other people take vacations of a month or something, be alone and not feel lonely. In the end, I didn't feel lonely when I was with someone, but as soon as I was by myself again, the persistent loneliness popped up again.

I would say that it is good that you are not exactly avoiding people now, but like you say, that openeness can make you vulnerable and cause pain.

I gather a sense of longing for someone in your post. While you may not actively pursue someone a lot, sometimes you seem to do. In this case, I think you are perhaps idealizing this person as the person who whill solve all your problems. While you may not be dependent on them in practice, you might be in your head. With such high hopes, everyone is bound to fall short.

I wonder if you suffer or have suffered from feelings of emptiness too. Perhaps sometimes you don't know how you feel about a certain person. Can you feel hurt for instance, or do you not feel that? It is easier to say someone betrayed you, but can they really give you what you long for, or would you like to recognize your own self-worth, regardless of your connection to someone else, what they do to you et cetera? You might be oscillating between feeling you need someone, even doing too much for them to make them like you, and feeling angry because they don't offer you what you hope for. In both cases, the solution then would be to the other person. I understand though. If you have been hurt like this before, no wonder you feel so strongly about it.

I hope this doesn't offend you, just trying to help. But if it does, that is ok too, and you may let me know too if you want to.

Yes. My anxiety is at an astronomical level, though I've made vast improvements on managing it.

In my case, loneliness and I are very, very old friends.

As far as longing for someone... at this point I guess it's an abstract Mr Ideal?
Not any person in particular, just someone there who wants to be there and is good at being there.
Certainly I'm aware of the trap of longing for someone to come and sort of... save you from yourself.
I think about it all the time, about not setting up those kinds of expectations.
Been there, done that, and more than once.

I'm enduring dysthymia, and used to suffer from clinical depression. I've felt about as empty as possible.
But I don't anymore. I feel everything and quite intensely (internet psychs call it being a "Highly Sensitive Person").
Years of therapy have seen me through all of this, and some of the other things you mentioned.

I think one reason I've been able to deal with all of this for so long is that,
for the most part, I'm okay with being alone. It doesn't make me lonely at all.

The problem at hand now is that, when I'm finally at a place where I've come out on the other side
of those issues and feel capable of handling relationships (of all sorts), there is no one to engage with.
Which would be okay if I had at least one close friend to talk to. Just one would be fine.

Feeling intensely seems like a step in the right direction too, but it can make it a hard time to go through. Still, might be an indication that you are now ready to face those feelings and the experiences that led to them.

Your anxiety could be a fear of being rejected, separation anxiety too. They can be linked.

I hope you are still in therapy and that you trust him or her to tell however you feel about that particular relationship, no matter how inappropriate or childish it might seem to you. What you are missing, what you are longing for, what makes you angry, what makes you sad, depressed, what makes you feel betrayed, what makes you feel empty, what makes you want to stay, what makes you want to walk away,...

And everybody needs other people, it is a normal desire to want to feel connected. But if you missed something in your past, you may long for it too much.

btw, I have suffered from depression too, but now I no longer do either.

Wishing you the best.

>Your anxiety could be a fear of being rejected, separation

My anxiety is general. And it's been with me longer than loneliness has.
I was anxious even as a child. It will never go away. But it's being managed.

I am no longer in therapy. Before I stopped, my sessions had been pared down to only
twice a year and that was mainly for reassurance. My therapist was awesome though.

Basically what all this comes down to is, I'm okay. And because I'm okay, I'm
now open to letting people into my life and being in theirs. Except no one is there.

Or they are, but it's just a small thing... like an m&m when you're starving.
Grateful for the m&m, but you don't stop looking for substance as well.
I'm just starving and looking for substance... in a food desert I can't currently escape.

food, desert...

what comes up in my mind when I hear you say them is :

food, eating food : full, fulfilled... when have you had enough?

desert : empty, lonely, nothing to eat or drink... why is this so difficult to escape?

starving : pain

And I must say that I was a little surprised to hear you talk about loneliness first and then hear you declare in a later post that 'everything is ok', no problem at all perhaps. Does that sound contradictory to you? Is it weird for you to have needs?

A food desert is a location without access to affordable, decently nutritious food.

I likened my situation to that because, one, I used to be a writer and we like consistency
in our metaphors and similes. I started with a food -- m&m's, so that's what I finished with.

Two, I'm such a standout weirdo in my little Southern town that it does feel like I'm in a desert.
It's hard to find what I'm looking for (compatible people) because it isn't really there to be found.

And you can fill up on m&m's, but do it long term and you'll get sick. Then you'll die.
Because an m&m is not adding much fuel or nutrition. It's not meant to.

That's what I mean by substance.

Now, I really appreciate your feedback. But it feels like you're talking to my 20-year-old self, lol.
I'm over a decade removed from her now. You see it's a pretty old story, which is why Cold Truth responded how he did.

It's been long enough that I can honestly say that I'm okay -- because I know now that I am.
Sure I'm lonely. But it's not going to destroy me. There's too much good stuff still to do.
I'd like to share a lot of those things, but if I don't get to... well I'll
just have to learn how to be ok with it. I just don't want to HAVE to do that.

Especially not now after years of being unable to reach out because I didn't feel fit to do so.

Oh, and it's not weird to have needs. It's frustrating to have needs that I can't fulfill myself.
That's usually how I operate -- if I want or need something, I get it and/or do it.

Okay. That's all I got.
My loneliness is a recurring theme, but it's not the main theme.
My journey toward personal success is.

It's nice to have dreams and strive for things.

Frustration is part of life.

And I don't like to have to do things to prove I'm good enough either.

By that coach, I mean the crying coach. This group of kids this season was the one that I have been the most emotionally involved with. I had a few kids that have been with me for 3-4 years that were playing their last game with me. I had some kids that I had to pickup/dropoff for practice, had some that had some personal issues, and I had some that did 180's from the beginning of this season.

It was a hell of a ride this year. I enjoyed the highs and the lows of the season, the parents, the practices, the bumps, bruises, and the tears.

I know this is what I'm meant to do.

unfortunately, so can a bad coach.

You sound like the kind of coach kids will respect for the rest of their lives.

Such a model OKP citizen you are that this is your sole contribution to the post.

You couldn't even respond in the original exchange, by god you needed to make this standout so you posted at the bottom.

Way to not contribute to the so-called decline from the golden days of yesteryear that you and so many others bitch about incessantly.

You're not part of that problem at all, no sir!

Surprised they haven't shut it down.

Weird how Kilomg was put on a timeout last week but they let it ride this week.

I wonder why.

Sorry it's not Wednesday and this is an old post but I just needed to get this off my chest. My husband's grandmother passed away yesterday...on his birthday 😔and here's where the ish goes down. My hubby hasn't had much of a relationship with his father. He had a relationship with his grandmother, and his oldest sibling and his sister. We all went to school together. Heck, I had a really good relationship with his grandmother and I feel guilty that while I was in Michigan visiting my other mom who is fighting breast cancer, I didn't drive the hour to visit my grandma-in-law. Shortly after I left, she ended up in the hospital with pneumonia. And she was so bad off, the put her in hospice and kept her drugged and comfortable until she passed. It will be a regret of mine that I didn't go see her before she died. But I'm pretty sure we will have to fly back to Michigan for the funeral. And even though we are all in mourning, I'm praying to God, Jesus, and all 13 apostles 😉 That his dad doesn't choose this moment to try to talk to him about the past...because he may not want to hear what my hubby has to say.

Death is something that we will all experience but it does suck for the people that you leave behind. I can't judge his father's family for the things that happened in the past but I hope that what comes out of all of this is a better relationship with that side of the family for my husband. I really think in his heart he wants and needs it.
