and people with that super stereotypical Slavic/Russian "look", which Putin has to the nth degree. It's probably Cold War programming from my childhood that's still in my head.

it's cool if you want to disregard some of the more hysteric reactions to Russia in this election (and yeah, the cover's bad, but who tf cares about or even reads Newsweek??), but I don't think anything Putin has done lately would warrant giving him a pass. Shit, same goes for China.

Obama has admirably exercised restraint with Russia (and in Syria) - and there's a very real danger that his diplomatic achievements will be scaled back egregiously under a Clinton Administration. She is surrounded by PNAC analysts - boasts about Kissinger supporting her - and very much believes in American interventionism and hegemony in the region - even if it means escalating tensions with Russia.
We simply cannot irresponsibly heighten tensions in a time when we need restraint:

than "Trump having the codes" whatever that means, because the only side talking like they're itching for a war right now is this new wave of Neocon democrats who think Bernie's classic left-wing ideas are stupid and just want a war with Russia, and maybe Iran, pump weapons into Saudi etc, fuck Palestinians, fuck Yemenis.

it's actually a great read on what happened in modern Russia and how the tsar era even shows you what's going on..
Their take is that Russians love their nationalism and as long as Putin keeps on keeping that spark lit with his geopolitical plays it helps sooth the problems they have at home (primarily crashing economy due to the shift in fuel prices). Even he knows its not a forever fix, but he's kinda stuck. It was also a good look at what we might look like, 'post facts'...Russians been lied to by propaganda so long they don't believe shit so governmental produced conspiracy theories sound as valid as anything else out there.
