that rules out chain tire stores. Only other options are dealership or mom and pop shops. Or...you could look into buying them yourself and having a shop install them for you.

with the previous owners (Craigslist find).
They had basically just had the car sitting for the summer as they'd moved down to the DMV from Maine. They had to have known it didn't have heat....but of course I was only focused on A/C working at that time...

Then we got that cold snap just a few days after I'd purchased it.... Went to turn on the heat, drove in to work and realized that the car never actually ended up putting out any heat.

investing. you buy it for the utility. sure you might want to look good in it and like what you're driving, but its a tool.

a lease is not an investment either. you're paying to borrow the car for a said amount time, mileage, etc. when the lease is up, do it all over again. that can be a bunch of years of not owning a car and lots of money gone. at some point, you gotta buy a car.

when something breaks...maintenance needed
I take it in
give it back when I'm tired of it.

In response to Reply # 0

She's got an '05 Ford Five Hundred. Big heavy car. And she needed brakes. Badly. When I got in to take her car home, I noticed I could hear the calipers squeaking every inch I pressed the brake pedal, so I expected the worst.

Bruh...

The anti rattle shim was thicker than the brake pad. She was literally one panic stop from being in someone's trunk. So, new pads, rotors and brake flush was in order there. That was Friday night.

Saturday was tackling the rear. I couldn't find my rear brake caliper tool, so I had to rent one. Right side caliper was shot. So, back to the store for another one. Left side was fine, but it took over an hour to twist that summabytch back into place. Finished everything by 1 in the morning, cold and sore. But, she can stop again. I swear I'd punch whoever designed the twisting caliper

Now I can't drive my Fusion without throwing myself forward when I hit the brakes. Brake feel is HUGELY different between the two cars, I tell you

I've fought with so many of them joints. Spraying with lube, twisting, trying different tools. That was for people I knew. In the shop...I'm not even playing that game. "Mam/Sir...you've driven too long with the pads gone...the caliper pistons will not retract" You know...I've got 3 or 4 different tools for twist in pistons and the best one of all is the $3 cube from Autozone I got MANY years ago.

Probably would have worked better than the tool kit, as I could have just put the ratchet on there and got some leverage instead of that little T-handle nonsense. I'll probably end up getting both just to have them.

Also going to invest in a brake bleeding kit like this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CJ5DWKO/ref=psdc_15722911_t2_B0002KM5L0

That way I don't need to call my wife to be the pedal person every time

when I worked at Hyundai...we had an electric powered one. We would recommend the service adviser for an upsell. The brake fluid flush paid 1hr. Shit took like 12 minutes for all 4 corners, lol.

I used my same big ass C-Clamp to twist it back into place the same way I would a normal caliper. Definitely not the tool to do it with but it worked.

I **THINK** I heard of a fix for the radio buttons...it might have been on the e46, though...not the e70. Otherwise...just go to a radio store and get an aftermarket joint put in...the factory radio is gonna bust your head open.

I haven't looked at head units in 6-7 years since I got mine, but it made my bose speakers sound way more awesome than the factory bose unit.

Have ordered from them for decades. Usually they include themounting brackets, harnesses and detailed install sheets to let you know how to take the panels off. They will do you right.

Would love to upgrade the sound in mt Fusion, but it will take some cash, as I want to run an amp (in case the head unit can't drive the new speakers well) and would need a DSP to clean the sound up, since all I can access is a line level signal.

Don't go cheap tho. Crutchfield doesn't sell the higher end JBL joints for some reason, but they have the mid-level component systems. They do sell the higher end JL Audio shits so if your wallet can handle it go for 'em.

Crutchfield used to sell Polk Audio, and that's my shit. I have Polk all over the crib.

Back with the SL2 I had put a complete system in the car. The sales rep convinced me to get 2 sets of Polk MM (mobile monitor) series components. Ran that through a Sony head unit with BBE processing and a 4x75 watt amp (I think that was Sony or Pioneer, can't remember). Man that shit sounded good.

Unfortunately, the car was targeted a few times and somebody (I'm pretty sure I know who had a hand in it) stole my shit each time. Still had the Polks in the front though

to eventually drop into a car. Buy yourself a cheap engine stand from Harbor Freight and just work on it at your leisure. No pressure, no time frame. That'd be a dope engine to do, too...just don't know how cost prohibitive it would be.

I'm just not built for a roof rack. I'd be nervous as shit the whole time I got 3+ stacks worth of bike and wheels on top of the car. I honestly didn't care too much for my trunk jawn. I'm about to have a trailer hitch type joint installed at Uhaul.

There's one of these in silver with different wheels in my neighborhood. Everytime I look at it I just envision how good it would look if they made a WRX version

I really want a CrossTrek for some reason. With some more aggressive off road parts and in that olive/tan color I think they are badass.

before I left I took my car in for maintenance.. oil change, tire rotation, and they also do a basic inspection.

the brake service light came on during the drive. I'm having the dealer here look at it before I get back on the road, but now the light went off.

it's something with the ABS

because most newer cars have a separate ABS light. Of course, fluid should not be low, so that indicates another issue...ie, pads worn, caliper/wheel cylinder seeping, master cylinder leaking internally, etc.

there's gotta be a permanent short somewhere in the abs system for the light to stay on at all times. Any decent code reader should read the ABS code, as well. That will point you in the right direction.

They checked the brakes and I was good. Perhaps they put it back together wrong? it's something with the skid control because that light came on...in addition to the ABS light. When I brake there's griding but not like when you need new pads.

Easy enough to find shoes for a 2G Fusion (235/45/18), but a good set are going to hit my pockets a bit. Probably bite the bullet and get a set of BF Goodrich gForce Comp-2s. Installed will probably run me $800 all around, assuming I don't need an alignment as well. I almost want to go up to a 50 series to see if the ride gets a little better, but not sure if it would be worth it.

if we consider (keeping the width the same) you're going to a 5% higher profile, which equates to about a 12mm difference in height.

there are just a shit ton of deer up here, at my girl's old place I came out to my car one morning and was looking dead in the eye of a full grown buck w/ all the antlers and shit, just standing there in the middle of the driveway in suburbs.

our new place is actually more in the sticks, we used to see the deer all the time anyway but without the woods it's going to be hectic as fuck

Came home late one evening and there were 4 of them milling in the middle of the street like I was in their way. They didn't even try to move

Funniest deer related thing I saw in the neighborhood were 2 deer running up the sidewalk mid-afternoon as I'm driving beside them. They looked like they got lost. I'm slowing down as I have no idea which way they are going to dart. They decide to break to the left and find their way back to the wooded area. The first one stepped off the curb wrong and tumbled and rolled into the street. I swear I heard the other deer laugh at him after he got up.I had to stop the car because I was laughing so hard.

bumper, fender, headlamp, grill, radiator support, some other shit up there I'm not remembering, plus having the frame pulled as a last resort to having it replaced, the cost of which exceeds what the car is worth

anyway, I got such a good deal on all the work, I really don't want to go back and bother them

BUT

since I picked up my car, the AC isn't blowing cold

I guess maybe it's just a coincidence? but is it possible they messed it up with all they were doing up there? or is that a far fetched idea

likely, in fact. So much that they could have touched. If they had to evacuate the a/c system to move a component. They could have pinched a line. Shit, the condenser is usually mounted in front of the radiator. All types of shit could have happened. Not even saying that any of it was on purpose...but I definitely don't think it's a coincidence.

if I took it back to them to have them look into it - how big of an ask is that? like is it likely that they'd pop it open and be like "oh! here we go - no prob" or do you predict that it would be more involved for them to track down the problem and fix it?

maybe that's not really a question you can even answer, but if you had to guess...

to see what the issue is. hopefully they're not assholes about you bringing it because its definitely possible they messed it up or simply forgot to refill the refrigerant.

and if its just a refill, shouldn't take long at all.

but, I would imagine that even if they are mainly a body shop, they would have an a/c machine. The easiest, most basic thing they can do is hook it up and see if it has refrigerant in the system or not. If not, charge it, let it rock and go from there.

My last car was an '07. I'm amazed at the technology changes. Push a button to start it, it unlocks automatically, I can play music from my phone in it, cameras in the dash that come on when you back up or hit the turn right signal...all this is new to me.

I was getting a little nostalgic about getting rid of my last car which i bought brand new in '07 and had for 10 years....all that went away in a hurry.

109. "TireRack.com for tires"
In response to Reply # 0

Ship them to your house or to an installer. Just got Firehawk Indy 500's for my WRX. Much better than having to pick something off the shelf that is likely not a very good tire.

Started installing lower/stiffer springs on my new MX5 last night. I've done it before on my 93, and it wasn't really hard but just a pain in the ass because I needed to drive the car the next day. It's amazing what a difference being able to do the work at your leisure and on a pristine new car makes. Everything is clean and shiny and bolts come off easy. This is a second car so when I was tired I just stopped working on it instead of killing myself to get it done in one go. Much more enjoyable.

you can buy tires, wheels or tires and wheels already mounted with road force balancing technology. You couldn't be more right about working on a car for leisure vs. working on a car you need to use for transportation. I literally don't have the patience anymore to do side work. I'm so glad I don't turn wrenches for a living anymore. Nothing like a cool project to work with. No time frame, work when you want, don't when you don't. Love it.

Need some shoes on the Fusion. But I do have to see what installer around here I trust to put them on (and how much). If it works out cheaper than going to Mr. Tire, so be it.
