"Are we gonna talk about Obama's Lame Ass..."
Mon Oct-17-16 08:45 AM by BigReg

essential Sci-fi movie list? I mean can it be any more generic? SMH. I expect more from you Barry. Though Blade Runner is respectable, but where is Gattaca? Edge of Tomorrow? Children of Men? Or the fun ones like Total Recall or Starship Troopers?

I am questioning his geek credentials.

BHO's list:

2001: A Space Odyssey
Blade Runner
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
Star Trek (OG TV series)
The Martian
The Matrix
Cosmos (OG Carl Sagan version)

Other than that I've got no problem with it.

There's better Star Trek out there than TOS, but that's a generational thing, I get it.

I have a personal disdain for Star Wars, but I've given up on trying to win anybody over to that view. That said, I think a lot of people would say that Star Wars is more an adventure movie than science fiction.

If he'd tried to sound sophisticated and added La Jetee or the original Solaris, it wouldn't have come off well. I might have gone with Brazil, or something along those lines.

Yes, even with him having only 100 days left in office.

I'm sure he had to fight to get Bladerunner (an R-rated featuring violence and nudity) and The Matrix (an R-rated film with violence galore written and directed by a pair of transexual siblings) on the list.

The same goes for his summer playlists.

the So Ambitious - Jay Z feat. Pharrell track which brags about banging two girls at the same time in the chorus.

I doubt there was serious concern about picking too controversial a sci-fi movie for this list.

"All Right" and "What a Dollar Costs" if I recall.

>the So Ambitious - Jay Z feat. Pharrell track which brags
>about banging two girls at the same time in the chorus.

That's because Jay-Z and Pharrell are so ubiquitous that most people don't even realize what the chorus is about.

Are we forgetting how much shit he got the first time he invited "gangsta rapper" Common to the White House for the first time?

>I doubt there was serious concern about picking too
>controversial a sci-fi movie for this list.

So you really expect him to put "Total Recall," a movie with wall to wall violence a three-titted alien, on a list? Or list Startship Troopers, another flick with wall-to-wall extreme violence, nudity, and fascist overtones as one of his favorite sci-fi flicks? The President of the Untied States?

dude has less than 100 days in office. He talks about his favorite show being the Wire. His love for Do the Right Thing. Donald Trump is talking about grabbing pussies.

There would be no controversy in including Total Recall or any other sci-fi movie you can think of, on this list.

I mean, it's a movie...

I really don't think it's that serious. I also wouldn't be surprised if Obama isn't a movie buff.

I mean... Bernie Sanders has a better jump shot than Obama. His tourney picks always suck ass....

I think the cool walk, booming voice and fine wife got us thinking Obama is great at everything.

You really think this guy is digging in the movie crates like we do?

look at this guy: http://www.streetsblog.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/06_16/obama_bike.jpg

Total Recall has people getting their arms ripped off and rods jammed their skulls. Starship Troopers is even worse. Yes, the difference matters.

But I don't have anything to say about that bike shot.

(Although matrix came out in '99). I blame PG-13 aspirations.

Its why I give extra points for movies that go for the bullet violence gusto like Dredd

The President of the United States did not sit down to make a list of his ten favorite Sci-Fi movies.

That's not to say that I'd expect his real list to be anything spectacular, but I don't think anybody should take this or anything like it very seriously.

Based on being essential, meaning standard bearers of the genre

Empire Strikes Back
Akira
Aliens
Total Recall (original)
E.T.
Children of Men
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
The Truman Show
Wall E
Blade Runner
Silent Running
The Matrix (first installment only)
Back to the Future
Mad Max: The Road Warrior
2001: A Space Odyssey
Fantastic Voyage
Minority Report
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Clockwork Orange
Robocop

Honorable Mentions:
Jurassic Park, original War of the Worlds, Dark Star, Battle Beyond the Stars, Gravity & Dune.

(I'm still undecided on the new, edgier stuff like Moon, Primer and Ex Machina. Enjoyed them, but not ready to put them in a pantheon)

If it helps fix my non-hipster cred, I watched it recently (couple of years back?) when they were talking about finding an 'original print' somewhere in someones basement or some shit.

I was struck with how much they were able to pull off with such primitive tech plus how great they were with the framing of scenes.

Also helps odds are I was probably lit.

You expecting avante grade films?

Metrolopolis?
The Man Who Fell To Earth?
Brazil?
Alphaville?
Dark Star?

He's the president of the U.S., and constitutional law professor.

Ask him his favorite movies about the law and I'll bet he has some deep, deep cuts.

Else-wise he's named some pretty big hits, just be happy he didn't blank out like Palin or Johnson.

My list, Top of head no cheating:
Recents;
Looper
Children of Men.
Edge of tomorrow.
Force Awakens

Older:
Galaxy Quest
Startship Troopers
Robocop
Empire Strieks Back
Aliens
Terminator
Alien
On The Beach (flaws and all)
The Thing
12 Monkeys

Can I be president now?
