"Election Post pt. Whatever: Things are pretty damn grim for Donald "

This is likely the end of the line. Paul Ryan announced he's no longer defending Trump, beyond just not appearing at any of his events. Yeah, it's not an unendorsement, but it sure isn't good. And Donald of course is not pleased.

The RNC has scheduled a conference call for 5 pm eastern. We're a proverbial pussy hair away from the GOP doing Trump like Bob Dole in 1996, and diverting all money from him to the down ballot races.

It's going to be an ugly four weeks regardless; I'd bet the third debate is going to be even uglier than last night's, if Trump decides to show up. And more and more tapes will be leaked. But barring a Trump miracle, its over.

I take solace in knowing that the GOP probably isn't going to learn anything from any of this, and will likely run this loser in 2020.

They had that whole "autopsy"/moment of clarity thing after 2012. How they need to expand the party and reach out. That first got derailed when Eric Cantor lost his spot over immigration, then Trump threw their shit off even more. So after all that "reflection" they wind up with a nominee who not only has zero appeal to anyone who isn't white, and an asshole, but also a loose cannon sociopath who doesn't know anything, listen to anyone, or give a fuck.

They obviously wont do much better with a dickhead like Cruz, even though that sect will push for him. Ryan could benefit by at least appearing like a contrast, but if the Trump people turn on him completely he's fucked.

I had some very close friends demonized by Giuliani in the 80s when he was US Atty for the SDNY and I have basically hated him ever since. The idea of that asshole as Attorney General would make me consider ritual suicide.

If he can get a group of women he called losers and unattractive to rep for him off of revenge then there are plenty of people out there that will vote for him, unless he's actually taken off the ticket losing support from other politicians means nothing.

His platform is rallying stupid people, the worst possible candidate made it to the top because he says what every kind of racist or prejudice person you can think of says on larger platform.

He's trash but he represents the majority of trash, he coolin.

Uh huh.....All we got is a history of Presidential elections....That shit hasn't happened since Ronnie beat Mondale's brains in...Because there are states that fluctuate back and forth to "swing state" levels (Such as New Hampshire)....And there are states now that have become swing states that have historically leaned Left or Right...

But like I said, Trump is doing his best to make that shit happen. At this rate Arizona is in play...But that won't happen.....

And again....Fuck u....

A landslide in 2016 would look like a 10 to 12 point win......

I think the most we will ever see in these days and time is a 7 to 8 point win.....Obama's 7 + win over McCain (52.9%/45.7%) was viewed as a comfortable win....

But landslide's are hard to come by. Trump, however, seems to be doing everything in his power to make history.....In the wrong direction....

Yeah...EC points are what they r...

But popular vote? Trump is the only person that can create a landslide...Right now dude is on Twitter shitting on the GOP talking about how he is glad the shackles have been taken off of him....

Trump could actually create the atmosphere for a landslide.....He has just declared war against his own party....

as he crashes and burns. If they publicly turn against him, he blames the Republican party and they permanently lose something like a third of their rank and file.

Bob Dole could see the writing on the wall and go down with dignity. Trump will self destruct and he's happy to take the party with him if he can make them the scapegoat.

It's easy for Trump to go this^^^^route. Because Trump was never a Republican. He has no allegiance to the GOP.

Ha!

Trump is already blaming the RNC and Paul Ryan of abandoning him....He can do much more damage to the GOP when he loses by turing the base against the party....Trump is about to burn it all down....

This fool's Tweet this morning is wild....

"Desite winning the second debate in a landslide (every poll), it is hard to do well when Paul Ryan and others give zero support!" the GOP nominee tweeted.

The GOP made a deal with the devil. Now its time to pay up...lol

35. "I'm starting to wonder if he has disassociative identity disorder."
In response to Reply # 30
Tue Oct-11-16 12:39 AM by denny

This is kinda personal....but my SO has functioning DID. It used to be called 'multiple-personality disorder' but that understanding of the illness is an oversimplification. We all 'disassociate'. When you have a 5 hour car trip to do by yourself and arrive at your destination and say 'what was I even thinking during those 5 hours? They seem like a blur'....that's disassociation.

Another simplified example.....John experiences trauma at age 5. When John is 25...he begins to construct a different identity. He may go as far to give this alternate identity a different name, gender, email account, etc. Suppose this new name is Ed. So now he's Ed. Ed didn't experience trauma when he was 5 years old. So it's essentially a coping mechanism.

I read about this shit alot because of my SO. It's very much tied into Borderline Personality Disorder and there's theories that DID and BPD are the same thing...or that they are mutually inclusive...In anycase, there's a particular TYPE of BPD that is now being identified as Narcissistic Personality Disorder. It's basically BPD with an emphasis on Narcissism. Here are some outlined symptoms:

An exaggerated sense of one’s own abilities and achievements
A constant need for attention, affirmation, and praise
A belief that you are unique or “special,” and should only associate with other people of the same status
Persistent fantasies about attaining success and power
Exploiting other people for personal gain
A sense of entitlement and expectation of special treatment
A preoccupation with power or success
Feeling envious of others, or believing that others are envious of you
A lack of empathy for others

I mean...I don't know how much more on the nose you can get. I wonder if this is actually a real diagnosis for him. So the contention wouldn't be that 'Trump is narcissistic' (which has been rightfully said everywhere at this point). The contention would be that he legitimately suffers from a real illness called narcissistic personality disorder. It's estimated that 95% of people who suffer from this do so primarily because of abandonment issues. Apparently, Trump was the only child in his house banished to a boarding school where he first began showing signs of ambition, bullying, leadership....all the traits we know him for. And Trump himself has said something to the effect of: 'I have not changed from the person I was at boarding school'.

Edit: Wow...did a quick google search and this topic has been exhausted. Here's the first link that came up:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/daniel-wagner/trump-and-narcissistic-pe_b_11289332.html

My shift is almost over but I'm gonna have lots of reading material for tomorrow.

You can't diagnose anyone without a proper assessment tool in the hands of a professional.
Well it mightn't be rule number 1, but it's up there.
I won't even get into it, but your definitions up top are incorrect.
Any online article you see of anyone diagnosing trump or anyone was written by a wanna be psychologist or an unethical/unprofessional one.

Just had to put this out there. It's a mini rant more than anything and not meant to offend you.

...but I think a lot of it has to do with the Google age we're living in too.
Webmd etc has folks thinking they can diagnose themselves and others. Then throw in all the pop psychology in magazines and sites like huff po and it pushes people to think the presence of traits in someone means they might have a disorder. It's kinda dangerous.

i get that the hill/obama campaign was brutal,
but i dont know that it reached to this awful bottom
at least not at the point where it was personal attacks, allegations, dredging up former mistresses.
i doubt that any association can survive anything like this.

i also doubt that at the end of this the donald will have any remaining associates - especially if he loses.
but its a wait and see game, i guess.

56. "Trump Gets Duped By Russian Propaganda (SWIPE)"
In response to Reply # 0

Let's be clear....For all of the folks claiming that the charge that Wiki Leaks is basically doing the bidding of Putin and his Russian government is some sort of deflection in order to protect Clinton, grow up....

Not only is Russia actively trying to tip this election for Trump (The U.S.'s intel arm just officially announced that the Russians have been hacking our emails connected heavily to this year's Presidential election: http://www.cnn.com/2016/10/07/politics/us-blames-russia-for-targeting-election-systems/), they have been brazenly doctoring actual information to create chaos and aid Trump....

The latest proof? The revelation that the Trump campaigned were fooled into parroting straight up Russian propaganda. At a rally last night, Trump started to recite a Russian pushed report from Wiki Leaks that Clinton advisor Sidney Blumenthal emailed to HRC road dog Podesta that Blumenthal said there were real reasons to believe that HRC failed to protect Americans during the Benghazi fiasco. The crowd roared LOCK HER UP! Only one problem. The information was totally compromised by Putin and his propaganda machine. The words actually came from a Newsweek article, but were scrubbed by the Russians in order to create an October surprise....lol

Cheeto God is literally a danger to this country. This is some wild shit----

Guardian excerpt: "But in his effervescent post-debate mood he merely succeeded in generating further controversy. Trump praised the open-information group that acted as conduit for one of the biggest leaks of US government secrets in history: “WikiLeaks, I love WikiLeaks,” he said.

And he also managed to adopt an erroneous report by a Russian government-sponsored news agency relating to a recent WikiLeaks stash of documents hacked from the emails of Clinton’s campaign chairman, John Podesta.

Trump, reading from an account of the document dump, told his supporters at the Wilkes-Barre rally that Clinton’s long-time adviser Sidney Blumenthal – “Sleazy Sidney” as he called him – had sent an email to Podesta in which Blumenthal said it was legitimate to question whether Clinton had failed to protect American personnel in Benghazi, Libya, in 2012, when she was US secretary of state.

“In other words, Blumenthal’s now admitting they could have done something about Benghazi,” Trump said, prompting loud reproaches from the crowd.

In fact, the claim that Clinton had something to answer for over the death of the US ambassador in Benghazi was made by a Newsweek journalist in an article that Blumenthal had emailed to Podesta, as the author of the magazine piece promptly pointed out. The conflation of the Newsweek quotes and Blumenthal appears to have been extracted by Trump from an inaccurate account of the WikiLeaks documents reported by the Russian online news outlet Sputnik.

The botched attack on Clinton and Blumenthal could backfire for Trump given that he has already been accused by his Democratic rival of being overly complimentary about the Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Last Friday the Obama administration suggested that the WikiLeaks documents had been hacked from Democrats’ email accounts by the Russian government in an attempt to sway the US presidential election."

>That's that old school Russian Boogieman bullshit

I don't think u get it...

The actual text from a Newsweek piece showed up in the WikiLeaks email dump as if it it came from a Clinton affiliate....It didn't....

Don't take my word for it. Read the Newsweek piece itself....Basically, the hackers did a cut and paste job and sloppily placed it in the body of a email conversation.

I know we all get into conspiracy theories and that good ol' fashion America as puppet master shit (because they have dirty hands historically)....

But this is all the proof u need....

Newsweek...This is the writer who had his actual words manipulated....

"I am Sidney Blumenthal. At least, that is what Vladimir Putin—and, somehow, Donald Trump—seem to believe. And that should raise concerns about not only Moscow’s attempts to manipulate this election but also how Trump came to push Russian disinformation to American voters.

An email from Blumenthal—a confidant of Hillary Clinton and a man, second only to George Soros, at the center of conservative conspiracy theories—turned up in the recent document dump by WikiLeaks. At a time when American intelligence believes Russian hackers are trying to interfere with the presidential election, records have been fed recently to WikiLeaks out of multiple organizations of the Democratic Party, raising concerns that the self-proclaimed whistleblower group has become a tool of Putin’s government. But now that I have been brought into the whole mess—and transformed into Blumenthal—there is even more proof that the Russians are not only orchestrating this act of cyberwar but also really, really dumb.

The evidence emerged thanks to the incompetence of Sputnik, the Russian online news and radio service established by the government-controlled news agency, Rossiya Segodnya."

I'm trusting a journalist who woke up to find his words being placed in the mouth of a someone the GOP has branded a Left Wing boogeyman....

As a journalist myself I find this alarming. Just because we are all cynical of America's own behind-the-scenes propaganda doesn't mean hackers are not trying to manipulate information...

Its not even about the election anymore....What the hackers r doing is trying to make ALL INFORMATION worthy of scrutiny....

And Trump has been gladly riding shotgun in the conspiracy game....

U talking about sources....I'm talking about a story that had already been posted suddenly showing up in a WikiLeaks email dump (word for word) as if it was coming from a particular individual when it wasn't....

All this all-sources-are-bad shit is quite lazy within THIS context.....

If I see actual text from a previous story being utilized under the shady guise as if an individual was delivering some smoking gun, then yeah, THAT would give me heavy pause....

Scrutinizing media outlets is one thing. But dismissing "these" sources all together as if they are all on equal footing is quite another....

To me it looks like what they used to blame on spies is now blamed on hackers so I have a hard time believing all of this is the doing of some soviet home brew club.

Maybe the RNC doctored some of these and tried to make it look like it was Russia or maybe some or all are legit Russian tampered leaks. I don'k know, but I'm not just blind trusting the story they are telling us without more dots being connected or questions being asked e.g. Have they hacked the RNC emails too? Because it would make sense to cause complete chaos by spilling both sides dirt if you ask me.

No.....

I'm not one to go FULLY IN on all conspiracy theories....Yeah, I'm leery of government sanctioned propaganda from the US. But from your posts it seems like u r getting aspects of this story twisted....Let me put this in caps....THE FAKE STORY ORIGINALLY APPEARED IN A RUSSIAN SITE CONNECTED TO RUSSIA'S STATE SANCTIONED MEDIA ARM....

Poetx, in this very thread, explains it in more black-white terms than me because I tend to be more heavy handed in my own posts:

"the sidney blumenthanl email (which trump referenced on the campaign trail) and made it say some shit it didn't say. and it was published in a russian newspaper, and then they found out it wasn't true and took it down, but yet trump had it. all this shit hella suspicious. they are blatantly fucking w/ the election."

>Maybe the RNC doctored some of these and tried to make it look
>like it was Russia or maybe some or all are legit Russian
>tampered leaks.

Why would the RNC do such a thing?...lol....That makes no sense....

>I don'k know, but I'm not just blind trusting
>the story they are telling us without more dots being
>connected or questions being asked e.g. Have they hacked the
>RNC emails too? Because it would make sense to cause complete
>chaos by spilling both sides dirt if you ask me.

It's not blind trusting. It's common sense and using your eyes. Forget the emails for a second....The actual Russian news site reported the fake story...THEN THEY TOOK IT DOWN WHEN IT WAS EXPOSED THAT THE STORY WAS FAKED BY HACKERS....This is embarrassing within itself because the Russian state ran media should know better.....

But it was too late. The news had already made its way to WikiLeaks, attributed to an individual who never typed out those words.....

Again, not all of the info in the Clinton emails has been manipulated. There is some real shit in there..So side-eye worthy shit......But since u r such a big believer in conspiracy theories, think of it this way...

1. Why does Trump continue to be complimentary of Putin and Russia?
2. Why hasn't there been any hacks about the RNC, Trump, and the GOP machine yet a steady stream of hacked emails on Clinton and the DNC?
3. Why hasn't WikiLeaks made good on its promise that it would expose Trump's taxes and yet gone hard at the Clinton campaign?
4. Why has Putin been complimentary of Trump?

Now THIS^^^^is a conspiracy for that ass.....

I'm not saying it's all lies. So okay, you're right about the story in the Russian paper. So that's true.

But the Russia Boogieman tactic isn't dead and gone and I'm sure it's at work in some aspect here. You disagree? Okay fine,

Well maybe it's cheaper to use our own hackers and cover it up if the goal is to make Hillary look bad.

I'm not so much a believer in conspiracy theories as I am extremely distrustful of most things Government/Dominant Culture and for very good reason.

>1. Why does Trump continue to be complimentary of Putin and

Business ties?

>2. Why hasn't there been any hacks about the RNC, Trump, and

I asked the same question. This speaks to what I was saying about using US hackers vs Russian

>3. Why hasn't WikiLeaks made good on its promise that it would

Good question

>4. Why has Putin been complimentary of Trump?

Some say it's his intelligence training i.e. playing Donald.

Here's a 5th

Outside of us invading the continent to fight the Bolsheviks in 1918(?) when has Russia ever traded firepower with the US? So how serious is the "threat" if we aren't really even enemies like that?

>fine,

This is not our grandfather's Russia....

The problem with making it Russia being the same-old-same-old is the state of Russia today. This is a nation that's bleeding money economically. Their power was on a down swing...And because of that Putin has gone Biblical Old School Russia...Invading neighboring countries. Killing and jailing journalists...Teaming up with the President of Syria to expand their influence....This is not US-backed propaganda shit. U can read underground Russian publications who are against Putin putting it all out there....

So yeah, Russia's new game plan is establishing a hackers network. Israel has one....China has one. The US has one. But Russia is doing more than just your typical spying. THEY R ATTEMPTING TO INFLUENCE A PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION....I'm as much a race man as anyone on this board. And I am suspect of the US telling us who to fear. But WikiLeaks's involvement alongside notorious Russian and Euro hackers who were known BEFORE they started doing work for Russia is all the proof I need.

I didn't say that's what I believe personally, but I have no reason to believe whatever is being presented as the truth either.

In response to Reply # 0

I wish I could post it but this CNN mobile on iPhone is tripping...

Basically said all Trumps gaffes don't matter. He is the anti establishment and represents the anger of those who feel left behind.

Trump isn't the perfect candidate like Hillary and those other GOP candidates who act like they never say wild shit or do wild shit.

He wrapped it up with an endorsement of Hilldawg but the premise is Trump is a monster who can't be killed by his gaffes so we have to go out and vote and stop acting like this election is already won.

I agree 100%.

Hillary Clinton has probably reached an Inverse Donald Trump type point where there is no slam by Donald Trump or her Critics that will hurt her standing with her voters anymore.

I mean Alex Jones is arguing that Obama and Clinton are literally devils now.

http://theweek.com/speedreads/654354/alex-jones-claims-sources-have-told-hillary-clinton-actual-literal-demon

What voter is going to read that and say "Word? I almost voted for her. Thanks Alex Jones!!"

Not saying some outside information could drop and change voters minds about Hillary, but it would have to be huge and I still doubt it would drive voters to Trump.

In response to Reply # 72

anyone claiming undecided at this point is straight up lying

There's basically 4 types of voters in this election:

1- Trump diehards who don't GAF about tapes, or anything else. He could shoot someone on 5th Ave. in broad daylight and they'll still vote for him

2- Ditto for Hillary die hards (hard to believe but they are out there)

3- Republicans who hate Hillary and Trump equally but put party over country (evangelicals, roe v wade obsessives, homophobes, Paul Ryan wing, etc)

4- Indies and Dem leaners who loathe and hate Trump and what he represents and will vote for her not cuz they like her but against Trump (myself and pretty much everyone I know)

That's who makes up this electorate. No such thing as undecided this late in the game.

Speculation is that he's going to launch his own hate-monger network of some sort, be it cable or online.

The GOP can change the rules for primaries, districting, etc. and they can weed out of the power structure to stop the rise of a Trump like figure if they wanted to. The question is, 1.) do they want to and 2.) well were do all those voters who want trump go?

And a big part to answering that second question is figuring out did the Republicans and the right wing media create these kind of Trump Voters or did the voters create Trump and the right wing media?

The GOP had determined that they needed a bigger tent and they needed to reach out to demographics that weren't traditionally Republican.

In 2016, they did the exact opposite. Somethings got to give. The Trumpians aren't gonna walk it back and open their arms to these other demographics. And the establishment Republicans will probably do everything in their power to keep any Trump-like figure from getting this far ever again.

I didn't think it was possible but they're in bigger trouble than they were after 2012.

...area of the party. Which I guess would mean turning themselves into libertarians.

But if they're ever to going to win a national election in the near future, they've got to dump the anti-gay/anti-multiculturalism/anti-abortion stuff. And find a way to moderate their position on immigration.

They voting-base that goes hard for the culture wars is getting closer to physical death. And the "young" population that doesn't care about any of that is only getting older. By 2020, if you're 35 years old the first election you could vote in was Dubya/Kerry. Pining away for the "good ol' days" which these voters never knew is going to futile. The GOP can always sell the "Hey! Don't you want to be rich!" and "The USA can and will SMASH EVERYONE!" narratives. The "Democrats are trying to make you gay!" narrative is going the way of the dodo.

But as I've said on here, I'm pretty confident that the GOP isn't going to learn anything from this. The lesson that they take away is "We should have nominated Cruz."

98. "Mel Robbins: The Trump Tape Doesn't Matter"
In response to Reply # 0

http://www.cnn.com/2016/10/09/opinions/trump-tape-doesnt-matter-opinion-robbins/

Donald Trump is a pig. It doesn't matter.

Donald Trump wants to "grab women by the pussy." It doesn't matter.
Donald Trump thinks it's okay for other men to call his daughter, Ivanka, "a piece of ass." It doesn't matter.

His casino businesses have filed for bankruptcy more than any other major United States company in the past 30 years. It doesn't matter.
Donald Trump can hide his tax returns from you. It doesn't matter.

Donald Trump can stiff hundreds, if not thousands of people who have worked for him as vendors, contractors and tradesmen. It doesn't matter.

Donald Trump can offend, threaten, flip-flop and be downright nuts. It doesn't matter.

At this point, I believe that Donald Trump, as he has suggested, could actually shoot someone and it would not matter to the 40-45% of Americans who still appear to be voting for him.

Pundit Dave Pell summed it up perfectly: "Trump's brand is a--hole. His speech is hate. His promise is ignorance. I don't dig it. And you probably don't dig it either. But .... he isn't playing to you or me. He's playing to the people who have been digging it."

If you think this latest controversy will finally beat him, you are wrong. If you can't understand how someone could "still" vote for Trump after all "this," consider what makes this such an unprecedented election.

This election isn't about greatness, the future, or even Donald Trump. It's about defiance.

To his supporters, a vote for Trump is a way to flip the middle finger to the system, the media, the elite, the liberals, the know-it-alls and the people who pretend they're better than "us."
Every dangerous and disgusting thing Trump says proves he's not fit -- and that's the point. He's not fit for the current "system." And that is exactly his appeal. When he opened his apology by saying, "I've never said I'm a perfect person, nor pretended to be someone that I'm not," he was making it clear:
I'm not "pretending to be perfect," like "Hillary Clinton and HER KIND."

Obama won his first election thanks to the emotions of hope and enthusiasm.

Trump could win this election on the emotions of frustration and resentment.

Feelings are powerful. According to research, 95% of our decisions are based on subconscious factors -- like how we feel. Not logic. Not what you "know" is right. We make decisions based on what we feel in the moment.

Most Republican voters disagree with Trump's grotesque, lewd words on an intellectual level -- but they still back the man because they feel defiant. That matters.

There are some high-profile Republicans like Condoleezza Rice and Senator McCain who have called for Trump to step aside. But they're mostly not voting Clinton, opting to write in Pence or vote for a third-party candidate. That matters.

On Thursday, I drove almost three hours north on Highway 94 in Minnesota. Not one Clinton sign. Not one. That matters.
Trump, caught boasting, finally uses the word "apologize"
Trump finally uses the word "apologize"

Saturday, in a hotel lobby in New Jersey, I spoke with a woman who's terrified that Trump is going to win. Her husband is a lifelong Democrat and he's voting for Trump, because he's "sick of how broken Washington is." That matters.

The phrases I've heard over and over from Trump's supporters in Ohio, Colorado, Virginia and elsewhere are: "he's not another politician" and "he's flawed, like me." That matters.

And equally troubling, Clinton supporters still feel like "there's no way" he'll win. That matters.

Major newspapers are not endorsing Trump for the presidency. It doesn't matter.

Former President George H. W. Bush is reported to be voting for Clinton. It doesn't matter.

Polls in some swing states show Trump with narrow leads. According to Clinton's fundraising emails, "Trump has TOO many paths to 270 electoral votes." And she's right to be nervous. Anger is a powerful emotion. What Trump represents is real. Concern about Hillary's ability to fix a system she's been inside of her whole career is real.

She tried to laugh him off at the first debate. She can no longer afford to do so. "Stop Trump" isn't a rallying cry, it's an admission of defeat. She must approach this debate with the grit of a boxer, and be ready to fight. Not for the hearts and minds of the undecided. Just for the hearts.

Don't talk to the people who agree. Stir emotion in those who don't. You can't just be smarter than Trump, you've got to inspire his supporters to be better human beings than him.

If a vote for Trump is a middle finger to world, then a vote for Clinton can't be a middle finger to Trump. It must be a vote for a system that has kept us united under one flag for centuries. And there's no one who understands that system better, or how to fix it, than a woman who's dedicated her whole life to working inside it.

That matters.

I think he hit it out the park.

This is where the truth of it is. I've been touting a similar opinion since last year.

I've made several posts about 'how to beat trump' since the first GOP debates and I've been unable to come up with something as profound as this:

"You can't just be smarter than Trump, you've got to inspire his supporters to be better human beings than him."

You're never going to be able to win over the hardcore Trump supporters. The attention should be towards the 'silent majority' types....the people who won't publically admit they're voting Trump but do so in the booth. Those people have to be told 'You're better than this'.

I don't give a SHIT that people refuse to believe me that this election has mirrored Rob Ford's takeover in Toronto to a fucking TEE. And he did WAY better than the pre-election polls fore-casted because people didn't want to publically admit they would vote for him. It's a fuck you...it's a roll of the dice...it's a 'watch the world burn because mine has crumbled' thing.

Everyone against Trump is called a "dirty liberal". These are some of the most comically conservative people I've ever seen, and they are being called liberals lol. With all the anti Trump articles I see get posted on the daily there, you'd assume it's the Huff Post or something

Poll: Trump tied with Clinton in Utah
By LOUIS NELSON 10/12/16 08:39 AM EDT

Amid flagging support nationally from Republicans, a poll conducted earlier this week puts Donald Trump in a virtual three-way tie in one of the country’s deepest red states: Utah.

The poll, first reported by the Deseret News and conducted by Salt Lake City-based Y2 Analytics, puts both Trump and Hillary Clinton at 26 percent with likely voters in Utah, just 2 percentage points ahead of independent conservative candidate Evan McMullin. Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson polled at 14 percent.
Story Continued Below

While Trump has largely managed to shore up support among traditional GOP constituencies, he has struggled mightily to earn the trust of Mormons, a reliably-Republican group that makes up a relatively large percentage of Utahans. Their skepticism of Trump, Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) explained, is rooted at least in part in Donald Trump’s past proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the United States.

“We can go through the fact that he’s made statements that some have identified correctly as religiously intolerant,” Lee said in an interview last June when he was asked why he had not yet endorsed Trump. “We can get into the fact that he’s wildly unpopular in my state, in part because my state consists of people who are members of a religious minority church. A people who were ordered exterminated by the governor of Missouri in 1838. And, statements like that make them nervous.”

The Manhattan billionaire has admitted that he is “having a tremendous problem in Utah,” a state that hasn’t voted for a Democratic presidential candidate since Lyndon Johnson in 1964. That problem appears to have gotten worse for Trump of late, with Mormon lawmakers both inside the state and elsewhere withdrawing their support for the GOP nominee over incredibly vulgar remarks he made about women in 2005 that were published last week by The Washington Post.

In the wake of those comments, which included Trump bragging that his celebrity status allowed him to “grab by the pussy” with impunity, Utah Gov. Gary Herbert urged the GOP nominee to drop off the Republican ticket. Utahan Reps. Mia Love, Chris Stewart and Jason Chaffetz also withdrew their support for their party’s nominee. The Deseret News, which is owned by the Mormon Church, also called on Trump to resign from the presidential race.

And former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, also a Mormon, has consistently blasted Trump for being wildly unsuited for the presidency.
The Y2 Analytics poll was conducted from Oct. 10-11, surveying 500 likely Utahan voters with a margin of error of plus-or-minus 4.4 points.

http://www.salon.com/2016/10/11/leaked-hillary-clinton-emails-show-u-s-allies-saudi-arabia-and-qatar-supported-isis/

A recently leaked 2014 email from Hillary Clinton acknowledges, citing Western intelligence sources, that the U.S.-backed regimes in Saudi Arabia and Qatar have supported ISIS.

“We need to use our diplomatic and more traditional intelligence assets to bring pressure on the governments of Qatar and Saudi Arabia, which are providing clandestine financial and logistic support to ISIL and other radical Sunni groups in the region,” the document states.

This adds to a growing body of evidence that theocratic Gulf monarchies have helped fuel the surge of extremist groups throughout the Middle East.

Another newly released email, from January 2016, includes an excerpt from a private October 2013 speech in which Clinton acknowledged that “the Saudis have exported more extreme ideology than any other place on earth over the course of the last 30 years.”

He's only been up 7 in polls there, and that was pre-Pussygate.

A landslide nationwide might move the RNC's platform leftward, which could be the single silver lining this disgusting, sky-engulfing, ash gray cloud of an election produces. The Reagan era left an entire white populace believing in UChicago economic principles that never quite jibed with who actually made up their base, so a shift in the other direction finally might have our national discussion include words like "safety net" and "socialism" as ideas rather than code words for RUSKIES!!!

I don't totally subscribe to the "Trump as virus that strengthens American political immune system" thesis, but this is the outcome I'm most geeked about in the wake of the Tanned One's constant pratfalls the last couple of weeks.

Maybe it moves in that direction by 2020 or more likely 2024, but it would take another, even bigger ELE disaster for Trump to turn in for Hillary this time around.

I'm trusting Nate in that Georgia, SC, Alaska, and Missouri are much more likely to flip than Texas.

Texas should be impossible to flip, and Mexicans don't usually vote in a discrete bloc for various reasons and shouldn't be able to singularly affect an election (like they might be in Texas because ol dumbass mobilized them). But if the polls that are bringing back 11 and 14 point leads for Clinton nationally keep up and become the norm (RCP average is only up to 6.5 at the moment, so that time is obviously not now), then Texas could be the crown jewel in a Clinton landslide. She would have to win nationally by about 12 and be doing it for a while for that to occur, but it is currently October 12th and she's up 11 in the PRRI, 14 in the NBC/WSJ, and 7 in Reuters, which has a usual pro-Republican house effect, so you know, it's a possibility.

i don't see it.

and it's almost irrelevant because a hillary bump here has zero impact on the other elections in the state. polling i've seen says they might get one seat back in west texas.

redistricting/bad dnc strategy means most of the many many republican officeholders don't face serious competition.

people would lose their minds though.

http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/election-update-women-are-defeating-donald-trump/

basically if men were the only ones voting Trump would win in a landslide. and if women were the only ones voting Clinton would win in an even larger landslide.

the fact that Trump is losing is due to women. if not for them we'd be in hell.

so now i'm directing all of my sadness and ire about this Trump shit squarely at MEN. oh hell...WHITE MEN. b/c that's who's doing this bullshit.

There's still 3.5 weeks left. If no more stories come out about Trump (a somewhat big if) and he keeps riling up his base by openly attacking the GOP leadership (a sly move, since the Democrats can't/won't step in to defend the GOP leadership in a Republican civil war *EDITED* not civil war, but a Republican rebellion of the masses against its leadership), and she gets complacent and comfortable, he could steal this thing. His numbers have already bounced back a bit from last week. I still believe he's polling about 2 points behind what his final numbers will be. With margin of error often being 2 - 3 points, that means if he gets within 5 points, it could happen.

Hillary and the Democrats doing victory dances in the first 3 minutes of the 4th quarter when they only up by this much, and Trump is on a rampage after not-losing the 2nd debate is not wise.

Of white voters waiting in the wings for Trump? Is it just fatalism?

Here's what we know:

(1) A superior ground game, in past elections, has been worth up to a point or even two's worth of improvement over pre-election day polling numbers (e.g., 2012 had Obama up about a point and a half nationally in most polls and aggregators, but he won the election by four points). Clinton doesn't have a ground game advantage; she is the David to his Goliath, the NBA team to his Shanghai Sharks. Her operation would be formidable in any election cycle, but she's running against a dude who didn't have field offices in swing states until like a month ago (and is still outnumbered in that department by literally hundreds, and on the volunteer front by thousands). He's actually trying to do what you think is going to happen, spending what limited resources he HAS invested in person-to-person campaigning on trying to bring out unlikely voters. But he's not getting his base to vote, which is half of what a ground game is supposed to do. Anyway, the point is that this is one of the primary ways in which he could bring a surprise group of voters to the polls, and he's unbelievably outmanned.

(2) Trump underperformed his poll numbers in the primaries until Cruz dropped out, and he did it consistently. He was polling ahead in Iowa, Minnesota, and Oklahoma, and he lost those states. He also had his win margins whittled down consistently in comparison to his poll numbers pre-primary, and usually by Cruz (who had a better run campaign, much like...).

(3) He's polling, at an average, behind 7 points.

It's not like I haven't been terrified of how many scary-ass white people feel so confident in their outspoken racism and xenophobia this election season and don't think they're motivated. I just think those folks have also been the main ones taking poll calls over the last year because they were so hype for Trump and that their numbers are pretty well known, about 38-40% of the country. But that's it. I can't see the great hidden white wave suddenly appearing on November 8th when it's been plenty proud of showing its ignorant face throughout this whole election.

Yeah this ain't the primaries but we saw it with the Bernie thing. A Bernie rally would have 20,000 people and a Hillary rally would have 100 people. If you went through my facebook feed it was all Bernie and fuck Hillary all day, and pretty much no one defending Hillary, or riding for her. If you drove around Cali (still actually) all you'd see his Bernie bumper stickers everywhere. None for Hillary, yet she destroyed him here just like polls suggested.

Also alot of these Repubs who say they can't vote for either one just can't for political purposes admit out loud they're voting for her, even though they will, if just to stop Trump. I'm hoping at least a small amount of Repub voters, particularly women will do the same

All that said, I still worry like shit. I feel you on all the 3rd quarter celebrations.

"They"....lol

This isn't a oppo dump, dog...

The Democratic party (or the Clinton team) r not pushing these women to call the NYT or People Magazine....Trump ethered himself by claiming that he had NEVER groped and assaulted women in that last debate after the Billy Bush fiasco....Once proof that Trump likes to get hand-sy leaked, it gave other women the courage to come out....

Hell, this new People magazine charge is coming FROM AN ACTUAL PEOPLE REPORTER who claims Trump forced himself on her...

Trump is simply getting Cosby'd......

That's not how it works....The media (my tribe) at its best verifies and reports....It's not about being fearful or hateful of Trump...In street terms, any one can get it....

They did the same with Gary Hart...Did the same with Bill Clinton in the '90s....Did the same with Wiener....And r doing the same with a candidate who was foolish enough not to surround himself with veteran campaign people who should have done their own oppo vetting...THEY SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS COMING.....

DNC has their own fish to fry....They don't have to do shit but sit back....

But when u r an editor/writer and have women knocking on your door claiming that Trump assaulted them, it's a big story no matter if people think that Trump would be a stain on the Presidency....It's the same with the email hacks...It's out there and media outlets r reporting on it....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

Clinton camp had enough to know that would trigger a landslide of other accusations, following on from what happened with Cosby.

And if there wasn't, they surely had other accusers on deck.

This shit wouldn't have seen the light of day if Bernie was the candidate in the general.

From a couple weeks ago?

Solid breakdown of their respective histories, and how it shaped their political personalities. Hillary's overly cautious/secretive standoffishness, and Trump's always counter-punch/never admit defeat/ never admit you're wrong/blame the other person for doing shit you did for/create your own reality, thing.

also some good stuff about the Trump brand. How he basically sucks with money, sucks at business, but he's kind of an amazing salesman

Plus Bill's indiscretions, Trump wanting revenge on Obama for humilating him at that correspondents dinner, etc...

I look forward to it every cycle. It's always good.

It felt like they could have made it three times longer, though. They had to rush through a lot of things. They said almost nothing about the primaries, for example.

And it opens with that, and pretty much lays out that this whole thing is fueled by getting revenge on Obama for that night. Him being the guy who Obama hands the keys over to when he tells him don't let the door hit you in the ass.

I saw Howard Feinman made an interesting point today that even though Trump isn't actually ideologically in line with these hard right or Alt-Right types, but this experience, especially this past week is kind of pushing him more and more to that. At first he was just exploiting their anger, but now he's actually becoming one of them

I suggested that Trump was exploiting many of these views and didn't actually HOLD those beliefs. That he was moreso targeting a market he identified than he was really expressing HIS beliefs. That he wasn't being genuine or sincere in undertaking those sentiments.

In anycase...this was characterized as 'copping pleas' for Trump. (it was an indictment of Trump, not an endorsement) I was 'defending Trump' and I secretly loved and supported Donald Trump because I was a white supremacist and hated black people. It happened more than 5 times and in more than 5 different threads. All by one poster who I suspect is actually talib Kweli lol.

Not sure how people can't be impressed by that while also thinking he is batshit crazy and isn't really in it to win it.

He is destroying the GOP better than any Dem could dream of...

It's scary but it's also impressive.

True but some of these people giving Trump props are going to the other extreme. Like saying he's a great business man when he has 6 bankruptcies. Trump is a con man with money and people like Rob Ford act like he discovered fire and invented the wheel at the same time.

Yeah but the press helped, all during the primary and look who he ran against.

How hard it to get ignorant racist on your side. I mean it's the Republican base. The same group that believes Obama is a Muslim from Kenya. Who listen to Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage. They have been voting against their own interest for a long time. Ted Cruz came in second.

Come on, you said more than that

Like if she takes a place like Texas (unlikely) it will mean much more then lets say her beating trump by the still respectable national numbers for him below.

A solid electoral win for Hilary along with 40% plus showing for Trump is in stone...I think its the other factors that will dictate how big this loss is.

>I think Clinton will get 49%. Trump 44%. Johnson 7%
>
>Electoral votes: Clinton 347. Trump 191

These gotdamn commercials are torture.

If there are 5 commercials during a show 4 of them are political.

Last night we saw a Trump hit piece that looked like a slick ass car commercial. We were like "damn, that shit looked like a movie trailer for Tesla"

I think she may be able to score a REALLY close win in Utah....The only reason being the other Republican running is there just to play spoiler. The Utah Mormons who make up 60 plus percent of the voting block HATE Trump....Evan McMullin won't make ANY noise in any other state. But in Utah? Shiiiiiit.....As a Conservative Mormon he has been gathering steam in Utah, eating into Trump's poll numbers. That's why Clinton is tied with Trump in Utah....

Right now, I also see Clinton winning.....Iowa, OH, FL, NV, NC, PA

And Colorado, Michigan and.....Georgia (!!!....a wild card...)....

Trump will take most of the South, Iowa, and Arizona...He could even sneak an Ohio win...But yeah...He's toast...

Clinton: 48%

Trump: 44%

Johnson and Stein: 8%

Not sure about EV totals, but Trump holds on to OH, IA, AZ. Hillary wins Florida, NH, NV, VA and NC, not to mention PA and WI.

If she doesn't get above 50%, this can't be classified as a blowout.

If she can't get that, then you can't call it a landslide. It think she needs it for mandate purposes as well. So people can't running around saying more than half of the country voted against you.

So anything past the barest majority is hard for me to believe, but at the end of the day, Johnson will lose much of his support and McMullin can only win one state. So...

Prediction as of today:

Clinton 51%
Trump 43%
Johnson 5%
McMullin 1%

She takes Florida, NC, VA, PA, NH, Colorado...

Trump squeaks by in AZ and Utah, possibly grabs Ohio. I'm hyping TX because I'm from there and any four point win by a Republican is a huge fucking loss, but Trump still takes it because, you know, whiteness.

so any chance Schumer and Pelosi make repugs bow down?

Despite being a spineless empty suit his whole political career

"today it's the dems. tomorrow it could be us"
Truer words were never spoken
I despise him and everything he stands for (a fuckin climate change denier from Miami of all places)
but that quote might've just sealed his re-election
That and the dems gift for finding the worst possible candidate to field against an even weaker R

At this point for Hill to get anything done she's gonna need a majority in both chambers
repugs already making noise that they'll block her SCOTUS nominee no matter what

Boehner quit because the obstructionist playbook they've been pushing for the past decade started torpedoing even business as usual GOP dealings. His issue, (and their point) was that the tea party and tea party strategies basically cause a divide and that new blood that can unite both sides needed to be there.

So now we've got Ryan and their solution is just more obstructionism? Where's the GOP now internally post Trump? Surely the tea party can't have as much power since Trump basically beat them at their own game

For all the talk of GOP candidates distancing themselves from Trump, Priebus still is providing him with money. That's probably a luxury they can't afford anymore.

Yeah, yeah, I know, he could turn his base completely against the GOP power structure, but things are looking dire as fuck for them right now. Losing the senate is a very real possibility and now there's talk that the House is in play (won't happen even in the event of a bonafide Hilary landslide, but the fact that it's being talked about is type amazing). But there's already going to be serious fallout if they lose with Trump, which will be even worse if they lose with Trump and don't even have control of one or both houses to fall back on.

The RNC did it in 1996 with Dole. Yes, Trump can himself still raise money, but the RNC doesn't have to give him a cut of anything they have.

Unless you're they can't do it without pissing off the base. Which is probably true, but that might soon be the lesser of two evens.

The money the RNC has comes from their base. And their base would be pissed if they weren't spending that money on the presidential election.

The money game isn't looking good for them anyway though, with Hillary expanding the map and going after states that were solidly republican. She's gonna have them so spread out they won't be able to effectively help Trump or the down ballot GOP.

The ppl voted and they chose Trump. The convention was the RNC's last chance to dump him. It's too late now. Yeah RNC could cut off $.

Probably wasn't as clear about that as I could have been.

They're stuck with this dead hooker at the top of the ticket. It's just whether they decide to keep throwing money at a lost cause.

If he bombs in the final debate tonight, I bet they cut off his $. But it'll be too late by then.

After tonight, and all the material that Trump just handed to Clinton, unprovoked, the RNC gotta be taking a long, long look at somehow salvaging something out of this clusterfuck.

i'm sure there's pressure from candidates who are in danger for the RNC to neither fully embrace or reject him. i guess you have more of a shot at hanging on to your seat by saying "yeah i don't agree with him but hillary's even worse" than fully denouncing him and risk losing his supporters.

they're just hoping the clock runs out with minimal damage, then try to pretend this shit show never happened. but the damage is done. they're fucked.

I'm guessing they're going split the difference with, "It's not rigged because he's going to win," but no one is buying that shit.

i think there was a point where they sincerely thought he'd be at least better than Hillary for SCOTUS, or that he'd sign legislation the put on his desk, and maybe they could control him, but that's all in the past. They want this over with so they can get to the business of obstructing Hillary.

so far i haven't seen any of them support what he said, even in his own campaign. I'm sure Mayor Rudy and Doc Ben will go along though

Got the crowd booing and trying to yell him down. The jokes were fine, even pretty good at times. But near the end he started dropping any pretense of jokes, just running through his conspiracy theories.

I also need to say something about Maria Bartiromo in the background. But if I said what I'm tempted to say, I'd have a harder time criticizing Trump.

The dinner is supposed to feature some light-hearted ribbing and a healthy dose of self-deprecating humor. He did none of the latter, and was straight up mean spirited. He called her corrupt, said she had multiple public personas, and even accused her of hating Catholics. And the largely Catholic audience booed him.

On the other thing- I was watching with my wife, and she chimed in at one point and said "I can't even concentrate on what they're saying. All I see is Maria Bartiromo's boobs". LOL

I disagree about it being a damn shame. It was fcuked up that Guiliani's image was so rehabilitated by 9/11. I am happy that his legacy is reverting to the evil bastard he always was.

His "I am going to respect the election results...If I win" is funny to me, instead of causing outrage, because it makes clear that he is a reality tv star milking this for publicity and not a serious candidate.

after watching her debate performances (especially this last one), the margin of which she'd wipe the floor with Rubio will be off the charts. even if he doesn't malfunction, Rubio always comes off like a little boy dressed up like a grown up.

As far as the actual election, i don't know but in a debate I think she'd humiliate him.

All good dog...

My opinion?

Kasaich and Rubio would have flopped too....Because the GOP base HATES them....They would have been viewed them as too much in terms of being with the political insiders. That was the appeal of Trump....He and Cruz (at the time) were the only two that could wave that anti- INSIDERS flag...

>and those guys losing the Trump doesn't mean they are bad
>politicians or wouldn't have given Hillary a fair one.. just
>means GOP voters are some gotdamn crazy fools.

Well, that has nothing to do with the Dems, right? It could be argued the same way with Reagan (he was elected when the Democrats were in disarray and viewed as an out of touch party).

To me, I think No Trump = Cruz as the GOP nominee....

And he would have taken a nasty L too because the majority of America view his policies as too extreme....

TPP is and always has been a bullshit political football. Politicians are scared to tell the truth: the jobs that have already gone overseas are never come back. Technology is expanding at too high of a rate and cheap labor is damn near impossible to fight off....Some form of TPP will be around...It's still Obama-stamped....

Bank deregulation? lol...Nah...the Left would destroy Clinton....She would be a pariah. Not gonna happen...

The only real worry Liberals should have with Clinton is her reaction to the Middle East crises...While I don;t believe she is as big as a war hawk as some make her out to be, she is not afraid to pull that trigger. That will be something we should all be looking out for....

they're a little under 20 minutes each:

Trump: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOUFsCS7xYE

Hillary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imO82SK4__k

Trump had some good lines, but got booed towards the end (never seen that) when he seemed to fall back into stump speech mode. Trump is such a showman but the guy is abysmal doing written material. He looked so uncomfortable at times.

Hillary did pretty good considering she's Hillary. The wrote some gold shit for her.

Neither did as well as McCain, Obama or Romney. I remember being the most impressed by Romney because i didn't think he had it in him.

I didn't know this thing existed before 2008. it kind of blew my mind watching McCain and Obama crack jokes at a time when they were most at each other's throats

But they'll get in the booth and do it. I wouldn't be surprised if it's closer than people predict. Everytime the media tries to quantify public feeling on trump amongst people who can be swayed, they're wrong.

A few days ago he was at 12% Now he's at 16%. I'm not even comfortable that it's in double digits lol

and i think the recent Obamacare news bodes well for Trump politically, but too bad he's Trump. That could be a game changer for a real candidate in a close election.

He explained that's just how his model works. Unless something really unprecedented happens, HRC shouldn't be able to go into the 90s.

And right now it's 83%, which is still very high. It's been hovering in the mid to high 80s for weeks now. This isn't a dramatic change.

Texas and Georgia are lost causes. I don't think she'll abandon AZ, on the off-change it can hurt McCain's reelection chances.

>Just get in that prevent D and sew up that 270

Like I said below, I feel like she's got that part sewed already. She doesn't need Ohio. And she won't abandon Florida (which she doesn't "need" either) if for no reason to try to make Rubio lose.

It's not like HRC is losing percentage points. It's Trump gaining a some undecided voters or Gary Johnson voters. And if with those voters, he's not closing the gap significantly.

And look at the states where Trump is closing the gap: Arizona, Iowa, and Ohio. The truth is Hillary could lose all of those and still win by a comfortable EC margin. She could lose all of those states, plus NC, Florida, and Nevada and still win. If things look dicey in ALL of those states, plus PA, then it's time to worry.

I don't polls and I don't trust America.

I also don't like this Obamacare premium news, the emails that keep leaking and GOP voters who say they can't vote for Trump.

I think those GOP voters are lying to pollsters.

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

My only fear is that the polls aren't capturing the true number of Trump voters. There are a lot of people who would never publicly admit they like Trump because they know they'll get laughed at or will get into a huge argument. But when they go behind the curtain to vote, they may try to make America great again.
