"what was your most harrowing driving experience?"

i like to refer to it as 'earning your stripes'.

the last time i earned my stripes were on a mountain in hawaii.

steep as shit, no guardrail, raining, nighttime, im tired, she talking about 'maybe we should stay at that resort we passed (for 300 unplanned dollars!!).

i was like nah. we getting back to wakiki!

little car, don't even remember the shit. it was red though.

all bad.

but i did it.

...

there's also the time i got tired as shit behind the wheel on the wheel alone and on the way to north carolina.

also in the middle of the night.

i mean, tired as shit.

so tired, i took the head rest off the seat and sat on it while i drove.

fuck that, fuck you. it worked.

what was your most harrowing driving experience?

i was like NOPE

only "difficult" driving I did was driving in the mountains in NC at 3 am in pouring rain

then there's the story I've relayed before where I had to pull some james bond shit to NOT DIE after this guy swerved in front of me on the highway.

Managed the oversteer/overcorrect to prevent my car from flipping over(it was on 2 wheels at one point)

I was at the Dome for a Syracuse bball game. Towards the end during a timeout they played the local weather forecast on the replay screen. Not a good sign. It was white-out conditions, you could barely see the car in front of you. Driving on a bridge that went over other roads. Not the place you want to be when you can barely see where you're going and the roads are slippery too. Traffic was obviously moving very slow, and the thought that if an accident happened up ahead I'd be stuck on that road for hours made me a little claustrophobic.

a blizzrd on the highway in a rear wheel drive Dodge Challenger. Im not sure which part was worse, not being able to see the lines and where the road ends, or the fact that I was fish-tailing almost the whole time. SMH

also the time I spun out on Monument Drive in Richmond. Cobblestone is like ice when it's wet. I did a 180 but managed to not hit any parked cars.

Shit felt like i was flying when I was hydroplaning. never has a car felt so light.

Woke up to a woman knocking on my window telling me to turn my car off. ATL morning traffic up 75N

Ice storm wasn't as bad for me as it was others. Normal 15 minute trip took a little over two hours. Some friends it took 12-14 hours.

I remember it was a Saturday around 11 am
they were installing those plastic divider poles between the regular and carpool lanes
like a dummy I was looking down for a second changing a song on my ipod
I sideswiped one of the poles
miraculously there were no cars next to me
next thing I know I'm spinning doing a full 180 at around 60 mph
on some fast and furious shit
Ended up looking at cars flashing their headlights and honking
I was shook and froze for a second before yelling oh shit!
gunned it to the shoulder and sat there for a full 5 min

over the years I've seen mad crashes on that same stretch of I-95

An intense fucking thunderstorm rolls through Wisconsin... like it's 5-6pm and it gets DARK. Rain starting coming down so hard that I can't see the tail lights in front of me when they're more than like 75 ft back. I definitely couldn't see lane lines, so I had to use the tail lights in front of me as a guide -- not letting them get any farther or any closer (for breaking's sake). After about 15 minutes of HIGH STRESS driving at 60 mph I finally was just like "fuck this shit" and pulled off at a gas station to wait it out.

That shit was terrifying.

Pulled up to a light and was looking at my phone circa 2001. didn't look up and hit a honda civic, went to check on the old lady driver and apologized, as soon as I ask "hey ma'am are you ok?" I hear her scream.

NO I'M NOT YOU NIGGER! (with the hard R)

Looked around in the dark October night and heard the police sirens in the distance. I knew it would not end well.

I got back in the car, Yanked the circuit breakers for the license plate lights and drove off into an industrial park. I wanted there for three hours and then drove home, got in bed and never told my parents a word.

Me & my girl at the time are driving back home from a weekend trip to Cleveland. We're on the expressway, just outside Columbus and an ice storm hits.

We're maybe 3 cars behind an 18-wheeler. Suddenly, he jack-knifes. I hit old girl with the arm across her chest and I slowly but firmly hit the breaks so that I don't slide.

The car right behind the truck went straight under the trailer and it just sheared the top of the car right off. Me & a bunch of other people got out to see if folks were alright. Luckily, the 2 kids in the card ducked down and were able to crawl out of the wreckage.

The semi had tapped another car and lost control. That car went spinning around into a ditch. A woman with 3 kids (all under 6-7 yrs old was driving. We were able to get to her car and help her and the kids out and away from the ditch (which was filled with freezing water).

We were lucky that no one was hurt.

Ended upside down. Country road. Outskirts of Santa Cruz

Never felt fear like that before. Feeling like I was trapped by my seat belt and that the car was going to catch fire

Took a solid year off from driving after that. Had to eventually get back up on the horse. But still it's somsrthing that comes back to me often.

A whole 90 minutes of just hitting hard ass curves hundreds of feet above the ground. Shit was scary, and of course one of the girls keeps saying "are you nervous or are you ok?" whenever I was zoned out and not even thinking about being nervous. Like damn, don't remind me!

Windows down like fuck it come at me.

I once worked 120 hours a week for a year and well let's just say I fell asleep driving a bunch but no accidents because I'm good at driving while tired.

Yesterday I got us a good way across Texas (148 miles) in a ridiculous amount of time (104 minutes) without driving like a maniac and mainly just focusing on strategic driving.

We JUST made the flight.

That experience was the single most definitive element of my
respective understanding of 'drunk driving'. I'll put the weight on my back, OKP ninjaz, if its in your power, DON'T do dat shit....

Eat a sammich and chill for at least an hour & half 'fore you
start arrogantly tryna drive back to da crib....

Real shit.....

We were visiting her brother and borrowed his car for the day, we drove up to the snow. it was some time in march and snow was only up in the mountains. Being dumb Cali folks, we didn't have chains or any experience driving in the snow...

once it seemed clear we shouldn't be driving up here, i went to turn around, but it was two lanes so it took a while for me to turn

When i sarted backing up towards the cliff, the car started sliding and we were about to go over. i cut the wheel the other way and wedged up into the snow.

Then we were safe but now stuck in the snow. The very first person that drove by stopped to help and pulled us out. While he was helping us, every single person who drove by stopped to offer help. I've never seen anything like it lol

I split & filter all the time tho. Not having to ride in a pack of cars or stuck behind some texting douche makes the ride much better. In my car I feel trapped.

DC's traffic truly sucks tho. I was there a few weeks back and sat on the same block for literally 15 minutes. That, and I hate those diagonal streets.

At one point I had confidence that on motorcycle I was faster than the majority of 4 wheel vehicles and could get out of most sticky situations with ease. But now, there are just so many high powered vehicles that are easily accessible by the public (especially in areas like DC with an affluent populace) and that same public are just shitty drivers in general. And then there's this unfounded confidence EVERYONE with a newer model year car seems to think they're driving race cars....

Yeah it does. Also there are just so many tourists and foreigners with little to no driving experience. And then the cell phones too....

We woke up at 8 am on Sunday, finished off the last day of B-Boy Summit then went to Roscoe's. we were doing B-Boy Summit MAD cheap so we were crashing in people we knew dorm rooms, dorm lounges, etc. we were facing scrambling for a place to crash that night so at dinner we just decided "fuck it, let's drive home."

4 dudes in 1988 Honda Civic hatchback is bad enough but that's an 18 hour drive in winter weather (once you get outta Cali) so it's pouring down rain, were in the fucking Oregon mountain passes at like 5-6am or some shit w/ slick roads. we're all tired as shit because we've been up for 24 hours, i'm punching the driver in the shoulder to keep him awake, he's punching me in the shoulder to keep me awake so i can punch him in the shoulder, we got the windows down in freezing weather, etc.

not fucking smart. never again. we made it alive, barely. 18 hours straight w/ a couple stops for gas and to piss.

Long story short, I was pissed at my GF at the time, so I wasn't talking to her and damn sure wasn't asking her to drive.

Shit was like being on drugs by the time I got home. I legit thought I would just black out at one point. What saved me was the sunrise... the sun in my face woke me right up.

how and why did so many dipshits make the decision to come overpopulate this place?

stop trying to knife in at the last minute, when you could've safely merged a few cars back instead.

my brakes can't take it anymore.

oh and use your blinker.

Years ago when i was in the Air Force, I was stationed at Laughlin AFB in Del Rio, TX. Coming back from visiting someone in San Antonio, i decided to open up my new Saturn(yea a Saturn). I floored it through these little 2 street dusty town. Got it up over 105mph and flew right past a cop sitting on the side of the road i barely saw. I must have been too fast for him because all he did was flash his lights and didn't budge. Blew my mind that he didn't come after me but also gave me a rush like i was king of the road that day.
