282 to 255 electoral votes: Clinton leads
46.8% to 45.1% popular votes: Clinton leads
58.3% chance for Clinton to win. 41.7% for Trump to win.

He has Ohio, NC, and Florida leaning pretty good in Trump's direction. Clinton better shoot her shot at this debate.

before my vote will be cast in a blue city in a very red state...essentially I couldn't help Clinton win this state even if I started knocking on doors 8 years ago.

That being said, Clinton isn't so far away from me ideologically that I would suggest that there's no difference between her winning or Trump winning. There's a massive difference, but I don't appreciate how people who are voting for one of the two major parties frame this, as if ideology can only be broken down to specific policies.

Ideologically I don't agree with the two party system so voting for Jill or Gary could be (and for some people is) about simply trying to get a third party candidate to perform well and force the major parties to reexamine the voters they're trying to reach or the policies they're pursuing.

American republican democracy is such a joke right now. It's almost laughable. Not agreeing with one of two people is the difference between sanity and George W. Bush...or Donald Trump...etc.

than I am a proponent of voting for them. I take issue with the Green and Libertarian parties cherry-picking every 4 years and then running symbolic presidential campaigns. I love Stein's platform (after all - it's virtually a carbon copy of the Sanders platform) - and think Johnson/Weld have presented some very important and insightful policy positions that need to be included in our political discourse - but if they are serious - they would be running candidates in mid-terms, down-ballot - all across the country instead of trying to hit the improbable lottery every 4 years.

Libertarian Party candidates in 2016: http://www.lp.org/candidates-16

23 candidates running for US Senate
122 candidates running for US House of Reps
599 candidates running nation-wide

Looks like they're actually running fewer candidates than usual this year, based on their 2015 and 2014 pages.

What you said might be true of the Green Party (not sure - I genuinely don't know), but the LP isn't really a once every four years kind of thing.

and skittles bullshit...

This is the political story of the day....Trump is the one with the truly corrupt foundation....This fool is shameless....And he knows all he needs to do is come up with the next wacky, wild, outlandish NIGGA WHUT??? sound bite (u already know Trump is going to spout out some racist shit about the Terence Crutcher police shooting...watch...) to get the media off our game....

Stay Woke...

The Washington Post

Trump used $258,000 from his charity to settle legal problems

By David A. Fahrenthold September 20 at 10:26 AM

Donald Trump spent more than a quarter-million dollars from his charitable foundation to settle lawsuits that involved the billionaire’s for-profit businesses, according to interviews and a review of legal documents.

Those cases, which together used $258,000 from Trump’s charity, were among four newly documented expenditures in which Trump may have violated laws against “self-dealing” — which prohibit nonprofit leaders from using charity money to benefit themselves or their businesses.

In one case, from 2007, Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club faced $120,000 in unpaid fines from the town of Palm Beach, Fla., resulting from a dispute over the size of a flagpole.

In a settlement, Palm Beach agreed to waive those fines — if Trump’s club made a $100,000 donation to a specific charity for veterans. Instead, Trump sent a check from the Donald J. Trump Foundation, a charity funded almost entirely by other people’s money, according to tax records.

In another case, court papers say one of Trump’s golf courses in New York agreed to settle a lawsuit by making a donation to the plaintiff’s chosen charity. A $158,000 donation was made by the Trump Foundation, according to tax records.

The other expenditures involved smaller amounts. In 2013, Trump used $5,000 from the foundation to buy advertisements touting his chain of hotels in programs for three events organized by a D.C. preservation group. And in 2014, Trump spent $10,000 of the foundation’s money for a portrait of himself bought at a charity fundraiser.

But that's the thing...THEY ARE NOT EVEN THE SAME ON THAT "lying" or "awful" LEVEL....

That's the frustrating part...Clinton is that classic politician who doesn't like the media all up in that business...

I think part of it is people don't want to even bother to state their preference because it will be too much of a hassle defending them. They know who they're voting for.. it's just easier to say they're both equally horrible and go on with your day.

I think there's a silent majority/bradley effect-ish dynamic that could be at play for both of them. You saw it somewhat in the Dem primaries. Not so much in polling, but certainly in conversations, and event turnouts. I still can't go a block in So Cal without seeing a Bernie bumper sticker, and I can still go a month between seeing a Hillary one, but Bern got trounced here. And i do think more people like the outsider/strong man/simple solution to complex problems thing Trump is offering than they really let on. Simply because most people are too busy and lazy to really pay attention.

no matter who gets into office who they appoint to whatever positions will still be shitty ass racists because shitty ass racists make up the majority of the pool from which they choose. That and the candidates themselves are shitty ass racists that were and probably still are friends or associates.

You may get a token brown person, gay person (openly), woman, or any combination thereof, but assuming they aren't self hating shitty ass racists like the folks they likely keep company with they'll be a proverbial needle in a haystack of shitty ass racists.

Your choice (especially for black folks) basically boils down to with or without lubricant.

I get it. It's easy to be turned off by this pollitics shit....In previous Presidential races, u def. have a point with candidate A = candidate B....

In this 2016 race? Nah, dog....Saying it won't matter who we elect between Trump and HRC is quite lazy at this point...

Again, anyone STILL equating HRC with Trump on some BOTH SIDES sh**, u deserve to be banished to the unmitigated hell of having to listen to the audio book version of Chief Keef struggle reading A Tale of Two Cities for the rest of their Cliff Notes clutching life....

then there's really not much i can say otherwise

i think the article did a really good job showing why you should support HRC for her policies
not in comparison to

and that's where i stand
i think its embarrassing for HRC that she has to be held up against someone so incompetent
that i dont
i have looked at the other candidates (stein and johnson) and no
their policies arent even comparable when it comes to the issues that matter to me most
(shit even those that don't matter)
i really do believe that she is the best candidate and the most qualified for the challenges that are ahead

and even if right now i was looking at the bernie/ clinton option
i would still be for HRC (even though initially i was enamored with bernie's policies)

but as i said, there's nothing much more anyone else can say on this issue

who already hate Trump feel good about hating Trump. There was basically no logical argument contained within that argument that indicated that voting for a third party was stupid.

In general, you can tell a "voting 3rd party = stupid" argument is bad if:

1) It makes no mention of the electoral college
2) It makes no mention that the statistical likelihood of a person casting the deciding vote in an election is only slightly less than winning a billion dollar powerball jackpot

I'm fairly certain that it's impossible to make an argument that 3rd party votes are a waste without addressing those two points, but I guess anything is possible. That article you posted was just some Hillary supporter getting mad that he is jumping off a bridge and not as many people are jumping off with him as he expected.

i dont understand this argument at all.
i also dont think the concern is on an individual voter, but on a specific block of voters who may influence this election
(I think of gore/florida in 2000)

how can someone effectively make a pro-HRC case without being accused of panicking?
because i dont think we can read his emotion.

now, me on the other hand?
yes i am in panic mode every morning i wake up and read the news
because i do think the implications of a trump presidency... *shudders* i cant even imagine
so yea, there's nothing wrong with that imo.
and i think i have said several times why im on the edge of this cliff
a trump presidency (to me) will mean that majority of americans (aka the % that vote trump) are racists, bigots, misogynists you name it
and that doesnt give me a sense of security when i am travelling outside of the NE coast

Trump is going to probably get at least 43% of the vote whether he wins or loses - if Trump winning is some kind of personal barometer about racism in this country, you don't need to wait until election time.

but given that the (realistic) choice on the table is these two candidates
it makes little sense, especially considering the stakes
which is why blow's article is focused on trying to convince people to actually make a meaningful choice
nothing wrong with that.

you can still go ahead and vote for whomever you want, regardless
for me - i remain curious as to what is so great about the jill/johnson platforms (for their supporters, i.e.)
that makes this an calculation they are willing to make (given that the stakes are high)

i'm still waiting to hear these policies.
as i said, i've read stein/ ive read johnson. i dont see the appeal.

>this attempt to scapegoat people who don't vote for HRC

scapegoat?
maybe you are just being defensive, here.
we'll see what happens in nov. but if either candidate loses by a small margin, even a 5% showing by the 3rd party candidates will be looked at. its how things work.

>for the same reasons you listed that you are voting for HRC
you are yet to list reasons for voting for your 3rd party candidate (other than a protest vote)
what are the issues that attract you?

of course we wouldn't expect her to be more diplomatic and less military in her foreign policy

so at the base of it

I agree with some core tenants of Jill's campaign

and I believe her.

so people that don't agree with you and blow or whomever, are stupid because they didn't vote for HRC

they agree with their policies

do you see it?

I hadn't realized that.
if you believe that Stein has a chance of winning, then ignore my above statement.
that was for someone who knows she is not going to win

i dont necessarily see presidential elections as opportunities to change electoral college dynamics, or the two party system or...
i see local elections as the realistic way to do that- and also as being much more influential in terms of day-to-day lives
if someone is voting based on- well this might dent the way we do politics, then that's naive
so we also have a different perspective when it comes to that.

>if she doesn't get elected, blame her.

im not going to blame HRC. because i honestly dont think there is anything else she can do
its not like she is slacking in this campaign. if she loses, i will still think she has run the best campaign she could
i will be looking at america differently though.

you took umbrage with me saying that there are only two realistic choices that people have to make in nov.
which -logic dictates - must mean that you think there are other choices that are also realistic (i assumed you are supporting stein)
if that is case, nothing much else to say
same way there's really nothing much to say to someone voting trump, its a futile discussion.

the article is targeting 'protest' voters.
who either think *this* is how you take a stand and change the system
(which is also why i explained my perspective on this)
anyone voting for these reasons is really just being naive
ditto for anyone voting this way because their candidate (from the major party) lost
i have no issue with people who will always vote 3rd party (its idealism- and nothing much you can do about that either. and these people tend to be on the extreme left or right)
but i do suspect that most of the current 3rd party folk are 'taking a stand'
in that case, it is a protest vote

and btw, as an HRC supporter- of course i will try and get as many undecideds to support her
which means i will speak her positives
that's how it works. but i haven't told anyone how to vote. at the end of the day, you can read all this and still do whatever you want

and i'd appreciate a discussion without insults
we can have a discussion/disagreement without calling the other delusional or whatever.
note, i haven't called you any names, once in this back and forth.

Is that your plan to sway voters to HRC

It's weird because you keep reiterating every point I'm trying to make

Blow begins the article talking about young black voters at Morgan State

and then gets out a broad brush to paint any vote not for HRC as a protest

All I'm trying to explain to you is that is not the case

This is not a horse race for me, I'm not trying to pick a winner here

I'm voting for the candidate who's policies I believe in.

You're convinced voting for HRC is the realistic choice

Look around you man, reality sucks.

It makes me sad that people would choose more of the same, given a choice

The price (trump) is too high. Where will the US be after him if he wins?

That said, i vote idealistic too. But I live in a country with a multiple party system. The government is formed by creating a coalition of parties (a certain percentage of voters must be attained). Even the smaller parties get representatives in the government, according to their size, and they can wheigh on the policy that way. Got to be pragmatic in politics though : they look for compromises on certain topics to form a coalition. Voting is in itself already a compromise : no party or person has the same views as you on all points.

he's addressing this qn and trying to reach these people, "What to say to young people, particularly young African-Americans, who have decided either not to vote in the forthcoming presidential election or to cast a protest vote for a third-party candidate who will most assuredly lose?

those are the people whom if i had an opportunity to, i would try and 'sway' to vote for HRC
or rather, do as Blow tries to do in the article; give them reasons why they should vote for HRC
especially since it sometimes feels as though people can only give reasons 'why not' to vote for HRC
and let them weigh pros and cons
absolutely nothing to do with that

the people who lean more leftward and rightward (and hence libertarian and whatever jill's party is - wiki says 'eco-social') are not about to be swayed.
that's not the focus.

>and then gets out a broad brush to paint any vote not for HRC
>as a protest

uhm, no
he says voting out of protest or not voting, in an election where the alternative option will essentially destroy america, is foolish
and i agree...
this is being pragmatic- history has shown this when bush won even though gore wouldve been the better choice
unless protest voters or the non-voters somehow dont think the stakes are high

anyway, we are going round in circles
i think blow is making a case for a vote for HRC because it is very much in the interest of his targetted audience
but at the end of the day, vote your conscience

>You're convinced voting for HRC is the realistic choice

unless you think the third party candidates have a chance at winning the presidential election, or you are a trump supporter,
voting for HRC *is* the only realistic choice
please explain how it otherwise isn't
i am really curious

I didn't come into this post defending my choice

I answered your questions

I'm not trying to convince anyone that I have the answers and disagreeing with me is not logical or realistic but foolish and naive

I know who I'm voting for

You know who you're voting for

This is where I leave you.

this started with a discussion about 'protest votes'
this has never been about me convincing you how to how to vote or vice-versa
i dont know why you think id bother with that
but rather how you are interpreting Blow's article
it has been about whether or not it is foolish to 'protest vote or to not vote' (it is).
you can choose to not be pragmatic and vote you ideals, many people do that, even with the understanding that its not going to make a dent
but if someone is voting because they think it will change the system? or electoral college? or change people's minds about libertarianism or eco-socialism (is this even a thing)
then they are extremely naive

you can choose to embrace it
but its hard to justify/ rationalize it

He brings up a lot of good points, namely that there really isn't a rational comparison between the two.

The candidate who will not be named is a bigot and intolerable and unintelligent outside of his ability to manipulate people and the press.

Hillary isn't perfect. She's played with fire by not being transparent about the emails, even if it's a non-issue, and for whatever reason can't tap into the potential impact her election would mean for the country and women.

But if you list her credentials and policy stances and experience working as a politician, which is a credit while dealing with politicians, I don't see that there wouldn't be a better candidate than her.

Sometimes it seems her biggest fault is that she isn't Obama and because of that can't captivate people's hope like he did. That isn't a fault of hers. Obama is just that special.

Whoever wins, if this year is a referendum on the system we win in the long term. Those of us young enough to live long enough to see the benefits should vote in our self interest.

http://www.fec.gov/data/CandidateSummary.do

You forgot Cobra Commander, Dat Phat A$$, and Donald Trump's Hairy King Ballsack.

And incidentally, pollsters don't always include third-party candidates, even the supposedly serious ones. About half the time they leave them out on the grounds that support for third party candidates historically craters in the closing weeks as the voters start to get serious, so even listing them in the poll inaccurately biases the responses.

In response to Reply # 51

I assumed we were having an adult conversation and discussing candidates who are polling nationally.

Most of the national polling organizations are including Stein and Johnson in their polls - and there is a significant appetite for third-party candidates this year. Johnson - for all of his flaws (and there are many) - is still polling at a relatively high-clip not seen since Ross Perot's candidacy.

In response to Reply # 56

Are you asking if they're on all the state ballots? Obviously not, but neither is Jill Stein.

I'm not trying to argue here. Obviously there will be a lot of people who will throw their votes away on Johnson or Stein, particularly around here, so it makes perfect sense to discuss them.

I'm just trying to correct this technical point, about how polls, supposedly by definition, include all the candidates. Now you're saying most reputable polling organizations include Stein and Johnson. More accurately: most reputable organizations run the polls both ways, because both kinds of polls give different kinds of information. Polls that include the major third-party candidates are useful for judging their grass-roots support, and in particular whether it's worth including them in debates. (It gets tricky even then to judge the cutoff for the polls, though. Should they include the Socialist Workers Party? The Constitution Party?) But polls that don't include third parties are generally more accurate for estimating the final election outcome, at least historically.

There is some difference of opinion about which kind of poll is better for forecasting. Fivethirtyeight mostly uses polls that include Johnson and Stein and simply tries to correct for the third-party effects in their statistical models. Upshot, Princeton, and the others stick with head-to-head polls. This is sometimes cited as a reason fivethirtyeight generally gives Trump better odds than the other aggregators.

>Are you asking if they're on all the state ballots? Obviously
>not, but neither is Jill Stein.

Stein is on 45 state ballots - and likely will be on 48 before it's all said and done. The mythical candidates are not on state ballots, polling nationally - nor are they real candidates. So I'm referring to actual candidates who are polling nationally, on all (or a vast majority) of state ballots, and who have actual organized presidential campaigns.

I actually would agree that voting for Stein or Johnson is a throw-away vote - but I disagree in trivializing the appetite for a more diversified representation of political views in this country - and thus - Stein and Johnson have utility in entering the aggregate political conversation in this presidential election.

Then she's the most gifted politicians-- and one of the most bizarrely truthful-- that we've ever seen.

Like, every politician should have minimum 15 minutes a year of broken promises and false claims. That's politics.

25+ years, and the best people can do is 13 minutes?

I'm actually insanely impressed by Hillary after that. I expect politicians to lie and/or break promises and/or flip flop constantly. It's the name of the game. But all the opponent can toss is that?

You are too emotional.

Frank said he was impressed that Hillary on had 15 mins in 30 years. He also said any other politician would have had 15 minutes per year.

Bernie has been in politics for 40 years. I asked if he could find 5 minutes.

Simple. That is not worshipping the man. It is a logical thought process aslnd fair question to Frank.

My Bernie Sanders mixtape would be CSPAN footage of him talking to empty rooms about working class people, rooms free of Republicans AND Democrats.

Hell, his 5 mins of lying would be his current endorsement of Clinton.

If anyone is being worshipped it is Hillary herself. That blind faith based allegience was chosen over a platform based on issues with a movement of grassroots support. Faith without work is dead.

You're going to sit here and post Trump's "lies" when HRC has years and years worth of lies on youtube already?

The sniper fire in Bosnia thing alone is not votable worthy.

furthermore, who are you trying to convince by posting these Trump "lies"?
No one on OKP, I'm sure.
Only ppl that can be affected are "fence riders" and those folks can't and won't be swayed by some 11th hour video of Trump lieing.
The guy has been telling lies and getting exposed for the last 18 months.

I kind of feel as much as the media (aside from Fox News cuz duh) is just hammering Trump its making it worse, got his followers believing its all Media bias. NY Times formally endorsed Hillary and calls Trump a demigod, bigot, liar etc. In a way, it may be backfiring. I understand its tough to be objective when it comes to him but damn..

He's been pandering hard for about a month now. You would think the campaign would go another direction if their tactics weren't working.
So, is it working?

Any black folks here swayed by Trump's appeals?

which makes all this commentary about Blacks voting for HRC absurd
now in battleground states it matters because Critical Mass wins elections
but in other states, nah
He going to get 98% of all black votes anyway

How much Black vote did Romney get?

i dont know about any of you, but to me this gives me serious pause about america
i mean yes even being aware of racism and bigotry and misogyny and all that,
you kind of assume we are making progress and moving forward culturally
or that certain things are becoming less acceptable
(im not talking about institutional racism because seriously, i think it would be virtually impossible to address this seeing where we are today)

what this election is showing is just how wrong i was
so instead of assuming that (white)americans are not prejudiced/bigotted/
unless they show themselves to be so,
i should be assuming that they are, unless they show themselves not to be so
it might be a slight shift in attitude, but honestly its significant in reality

so... the election will definitely confirm what proportion - among those who voted - are actually bigots
and what places to avoid moving to.

its really sombering

This is what boggles my mind.
You seek us out.
Apply to come here.
Spend money to get here.
And when America does not live up to YOUR expectations, you want us to CHANGE our way of doing things to meet YOUR ideal(s)?

That's rich.

Do ppl do this kinda stunt when they go to Saudi Arabia or Iraq?

How could one be so foolish to not think that white folks wasn't as racist as the sky is blue?

i say that about my very own home
if you don't like the temp i keep my A/C or heat on,

this is okp where everything "alternative" must be kept sacred and hunky dory
you can bash whites
but you bet not bash blacks
you can bash gun owners
but you bet not say nothing bad about gays

i'm not no stars and bars toting southerner
but FUCK i cant just sit back and let you bash the country my family has known for 200 years
i've probably been to 100 countries
and i've NEVER went to their land and just critiqued and shitted all on it WHILE I WAS THERE

I'm american, bro.

And why is it that your family can put their lives on the line for what's supposed to be their country come home and still be treated like second class citizens? Why are few if any of the top brass black if we're so American? Do you not see the disconnect? Why would the military have segregated units if the contribution of black soldiers was of value?

Your turn to answer up Crispus

Btw 200 years? You know when your people's ship came in or something because there's 172 or so more years prior to the Declaration of Independence.

I'm home and I'm loving it. Sure i hate the white supremacy and the unfair treatment but i also love my freedoms within this society.

this doesnt mean injustice doesnt exist so chill on the listing of fallen brothers. This isnt about that.

Killer Mike said it best. We dont grow our own food, we dont know how to hunt and dress a deer. We arent ready. All this back to Africa or some other country isnt happening.

I never left the country so maybe there is a place outside of America but one thing I know is every friend and fam who leaves America always comes back or plans too once their job ends.

tell us where this pkace is bruh...

that of course being most of the people who love this country as much as yourself.

Amazing how something built by racist for racist can seem so appealing to those on the receiving end of it. If we can't all have success then my own is meaningless as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not staying in nobody house or company if I feel disrespected AND I have the means of leaving them.
If I'm stuck on a mountain in a white out I have to ride out the weekend.
But if I'm in their home in northeast Philly and I have a few thousand in my pocket and enough juice to call a Uber, I'm gone! !!

So, therefore, you're full of shit so please cease this anti American campaign of yours.
You've been had!!!

I pay property taxes in a foreign country
Meaning I OWN A PIECE OF ANOTHER COUNTRY
What are you not getting?
You desire to where I am.
I have a place in another country I can retreat to.
Is that not what you want?

Again, you're not going nowhere
I know your type
I've been travelling over a decade and come across your type way too many times.
Something will always come up that prevents you from taking the leap.
I've lept, nigga.
While you sit here post on OK
I was paying $185 a yard for concrete trying to get my lentil beams poured.

Again, you're not for real.
You're all talk.

you talk a lot about money. Is that supposed to mean something?

I'll spell it out.

Somehow someway you are likely the one who's full of shit. Because to accuse someone you've never met and who you don't know of something that you have no real evidence of is highly suspect.

and 99% of us won't.

thank goodness i don't know anyone who has had a fatal police encounter.

the point tho.. is America isn't perfect but it's probably a lot closer to "utopia" than most of the world when it comes to a Black man getting a chance to make it.

people are DYING to get to America.

There is no research into how likely any of us are to succumb to such a fate, but it's obviously about much more than anti black policing.

The entirety of this country is corrupted by hatred towards black people and it's been proven time and time again that regardless of how we approach life our lives are forfeit and our contributions are not desired.

America is literally built on the accepted killing and impoverishment of black people, continues to be, and clearly the majority of Americans want it that way. If that's "the best" something is truly wrong.

if Im correct, you married interracially. her family might love you as someone who's good for their daughter, but also might have preferred it was someone who looks more like them (because race relations havent come that far at all)

all that aside America isnt yours anymore than it belongs to an African, no matter how much you've been deluded into the dream by money or prestige

you're basically Trump if you tell a person "go back where you came from"

No love involved
Just money and p-values

And is Ghana open to the world?
Or does only Ghanaians "own" it?
Are you not acknowledging international borders now?

And Akon is not american.
So I'm telling her if she don't like america, don't waste her time or ours by APPLYING for a visa.
Why don't she go to a school in England or something? USA ain't the only place with schools of public health.

used to have these debates in college all the time. Africans/foreigners would be quick to talk about lazy Black Americans, fucked up work ethic, shitty country but as soon as you say one word about their country it's a problem.

and this is false.

More times than not Africans are treated BETTER than American Blacks because they are seen as hard working and more times than not they are here for college.

but that doesn't change the fact this is OUR country. We were born here and most of us will die here.

Our ancestors died and sacrificed for our shot.

Buy some land, pass that shit down to your kids and make the most of it.

It ain't perfect but no one is going to convince me this shit isn't ours. I'm stronger than that fam...

when you or I get pulled over or interact with police we have no idea which of them is the killer and the more there are on the scene the greater the odds.

All of us are under a sword of Damocles with the difference being some or most have extremely thin threads.

You will be an OUTSIDER
why can't you understand that? ??
Your father and grandfather will not have sacrificed for that nation so you won't be SHIT to them

No country in the world will accept you as equal
No one!!!

Jesus why can't you see this?

Norway will send you back to America if you punch a Norwegian woman in the face.
DEPORTED!!!

That means Norway ain't your home.
You can pimp slap Barbara Bush at a Rangers game and the most you'd get is 10 years in Leavenworth.
But when you get out you'll just go back to hit ppls house.
They not kicking you out the country because they can't.
Don't you see the difference?

if you havent found that place on a map by now more than likely you arent mpving their next year.

The only places without a history of killing us dont have a lot of us to begin with..

so if you plan on moving to a country where you are less than 1% of the population... that would kinda defeat the purpose.

most of us will never get shot by a cop. Most of us will enjoy all the things America has to offer (compared to living elsewhere).

Lets no tact like OKP's are deep in the struggle. Most of us are college educated, middle class, Black folk. Niggas who own $300 denim jeans and don't wash them cause white folk said not to...

hell, even Akon scoffed at 100K a year not being a lot of money.

You can be born here and be governed by an immigrant who only been here for twenty years or so.

What's up with all the name calling?

That's not called for.

Sit back and relax.

A person can go to a country to get culture and find sexual pleasure at the same time.

I can go to San Francisco today to photograph the Golden Gate in all its glory
But but happy hour around Buena Vista park and somebody might see me and like me.
It's that simple.

I might buy her a $3 shot of fernet branca, she might think that's classy, and off to the races!

if feels like rational thinking lost
and i dont know what this new way of thinking or decision-making actually is
it has bigger implications considering the challenges we have to face moving forward
(climate change for example. if we cant even base decisions on simple facts on the ground
how will we ever handle something as complex as climate change.
and shit just real)
also the reactionary environment this has become
it feels like people are willing to make decisions against their best interests, based on....
i dont know what its based on
some of it is apparently 'sticking it to the man'
some is plain old bigotry (this is inexcusable)
and others.... i dont know.

i think its good to have idealism, but its far better to have pragmatism

and this is my issue with politics. When Obama ran for President they put Palin on the ticket. She became the focus and was easily joked because she is a fucking idiot. Slam dunk easy win.

Now we have Trump. Another easy fucking win. Well, it should be an easy win.

Its weird that people have to beg and plead and argue for America to vote against Trump.

obviously the establishment doesnt have the numbers to fuck with Trump voters.

Cruz just endorsed Trump. At this point the establishment needs to die off and let the younger GOP move their party closer to thr middle.

unless they just dont give a shit about the WH.

and as we see, congress makes it hard to get anything passed.

beginning to think we (Dems) might be too concerned with winning the WH and not focused on these mid terms.

MOST of America is conservative in the most basic way, but half are still dems. The problem is that since F. Buckley, arguably even before, its been about keeping certain social structures in place then true conservative values. Hence the metoric rise of Trump.

So when you have your Meghan Mccain's popping up trying to push for pro-gay, pro-weed rational republicans there's a reason why she's abnormality. Id say that the party COULD split off in a positive way where the old school perhaps gets lumped in with a true far right party with like 10-15% of the GOP going with them with leaving a stronger leaner 'fiscally conservative, not so much socially' GOP.

But Trump wave, in addition to showing the ugly side of the party that's been brewing for decades, has shown that they will NOT deviate from the party line even though its the antithesis of what they believe in.

And the sharp rise of the alt-right shows that when their parents die off a new generation is gonna proudly take up the mantle. I dont see the party shifting if Trump couldn't cause it to happen.

assuming she wins...she's got one hell of a mess to clean up. b/c those ppl aren't going away. it's like having to give rides home to mad white ppl who showed up at a now-busted Halloween party in blackface. taxi cab drivers and ER staff understand - they deal w/triage for ppl who are either highly embarrassed or completely defiant. she might wanna consult w/them.

same for the Democrats at large in dealing w/the Bernie Bros and the Trumpsters. and the GOP too.

we have one coworker who admitted she supports Trump. this was a few months ago. she's Latina. back then she was down w/Trump b/c she's Catholic and she's very anti-abortion and she kinda favors the wall but maybe not really. but mostly b/c she's Catholic and conservative so she can't vote for Hillary.

i could tell she was struggling so i didn't press the issue. and we haven't talked about it since then. i wonder if she's still planning to vote for him in November. i think she will vote for him but she doesn't want to talk about it.

i can't imagine being her - i dunno that i've planned to vote for someone who's campaigned so hard in a manner that makes me think he will do harm to me and my ppl and our interests. i guess i did vote for Clinton in 1996 and this was in the DOMA & the crime bill era. but damn...even that wasn't as ugly as what's going on today w/Trump.

She was stumping for Maggie Hassan (who is trying to topple Kelly Ayotte for a Senate seat) and also was pitching for Hillary. She did an incredible job and is one of the most important politicians of our time.

The atmosphere was interesting. There was significant tension from DNC members who were shaming Bernie supporters for not wanting to actively canvass for Clinton. On one hand - I understand where they're coming from as defeating Trump should be the first piece of business for anybody interested in mitigating damage and preserving stability. But on the other hand - I feel like they should've been more cognizant of the fact that Bernie nearly doubled Clinton here in NH in the primary - and there are better ways to approach Bernie supporters than to try and shame them into canvassing for Hillary (which won't happen anyway). The best you could hope for from them is to convince them to vote for Clinton and then to hold her administration accountable for "the most progressive platform in Democratic history").

I'm hosting a canvass with MoveOn.Org in NH in association with their "Stop the Hate" campaign to defeat Trump - and am happy to say that the canvass efforts have turned significant republican voters into Johnson voters here in NH. In fact, Johnson is polling better in NH than in virtually any other state - and a lot of those voters would-be Trump voters in a Trump v. Clinton head-to-head. So I do think Clinton will likely win NH - and part of that is because Johnson is siphoning votes from Trump in this state.

I think a more apt strategy than trying to scold and lecture Bernie voters to actively canvass for Hillary is to try and speak to independents/center-right voters who may not be on Team Hillary - but also are concerned about Trump's fascism - yet still feel the need to vote given the civic duty that has been embedded in them. For them - voting for anyone not-named Trump is a victory for November.
