A gun is a tool created and used to kill. That's literally it's designed purpose. Anything else is recreational. Having more of them on the street doesn't minimize killing. It makes everyone a threat to shoot everyone.
In the end, it's a grip of socio-economic, mental/emotional, political, educational and yes, racial factors that play into the diminishing of ANY sect of society.
You're poor and your family has always been poor. Your family has always been poor because your ancestors never had (nor saw the necessity in) more education (maybe they just had to work hard labor to take care of their family). This is coupled with generations of systematic racism designed around keeping you where you are; poor and less educated than the perpetrators so any educational resources you might have access to don't compete on a professional level. You live in a neighborhood with like-minded alikes who share a similar history. And rather than starve, some seek to take survival necessities by any means necessary, which exposes you to high amounts of criminal activity, including death and the illegal sale of consumable escapism...drugs.
It makes for a childhood of high stress and depression. Now people in your neighborhood are going to jail en mass, because the systematic racism loves to overtly criminalize any like-skinned males in your community yet doesn't seek to invest resources to curb the root problems. Because prison building is a business. This further decomposes your community as now male leaders are absentee.
So you have two options, wait to become a victim because you have no idea how to escape this cycle or grab a gun and become part of the problem.
We've failed in this country. We've lost our sense of humanity in exchange for narcissistic entitlement.
People will utter in the same breath that 'Our country is great' but 'Blacks need to fix their communities'. As if black people had any hand in designing the system.
Without doing any statistical research, I can guarantee, within a 5% margin of error that 98% of cities/villages/suburbs with majority black people has a serious deficit in:
A) Jobs B) Public resources C) Educational competitiveness
vs similar communities of other predominant races (namely: white and/or asian)
^^^That's not a Black Community problem. That's an AMERICAN problem fueled by racism and bigotry.
So in my opinion, relaxing gun laws won't fix this (and I'm ok with relaxed gun laws...with a rational process for attaining them). What's a gun to a kid who doesn't care about his own life, let alone yours?
People will still get shot. These kids know going in that if they shoot someone, it might and likely will come back on them in the form of violent retaliation. I don't think they are gonna fear grannies with glocks.
We need to solve the problems, not the symptoms. ____________
