"Poll question: Career Purgatory or Sell Out?"

So I have been putting myself out there a lot more lately
made some connections and I'm getting pulled in some directions

like my job
great flexibility (telework from anywhere in the US)
overtime
incentives
but its government and im kind of approaching a ceiling earning wise
promotion has come up
-15% increase in salary
- supervisor roll
- limited telework

so I made some contacts with private firms and the contact offered me a job
- no telework
- 50% increase on what I make now
- international move

and then I get approached by an older alumni contact who is starting his own firm and wants me to join
- ground floor of a new biz
- clients I already have a relationship
- 30% increase in salary

hard out here making decisions
Okp what to do?

And where does selling out come from?

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

1)How much stability do you need
2)Is the telework because you wanna move or help with babysitting bills if you have kids, etc.

Seems the first 2 are the real decisions imho unless you think there's a good chance your homies firms makes big moves and the presumably options you get for being there at the ground floor will end up making you more guap.

So then maybe it's just really 1 and 3 then unless you were seriously looking at doing international? If its international (and I hate to say this) it's probably gonna be better for your kids education wise and while you can't work from home gotta figure their hours are gonna be less then here.

3 would be tempting as fuck for me because being on a boss path is the kind of upgrade that doesn't come often, particularly since you said he's an older head and you would be bringing in the clients that would be the company's lifeblood. And option #2 shows that if (knock on wood) anything goes wrong you could always dip back into the private sector.

1, you get to keep working from home some and still get a decent raise

3, if working from home isn't that important to you, you can get a bigger raise. Though some of that would be negated with less free time, more spent on gas and car maintenance to commute.

International move would be too much for me personally.

Maybe you can make a counter offer at #1 now that you have these other offers out there?

Or anything else that you have to be responsible for (like alimony or a giant car note).

#2 would be a PITA, and that's if you don't have kids. If it's somewhere you really want to be the ok.

#1 (stability) or #3 (potential) would be my options, in that order.

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*
