To start, I listen to your podcast religiously every week. It helps me deal with the fucked up traffic that I deal with commuting to work in Southern California. Definitely one of my favorite podcasts for a host of reasons.
But, the beginning of episode 218 had me snickering for some reason. I understood why you talked to your son like you did, regardless of whether I would have taken the same approach or not. At the same token, I somewhat understood what your co-host Saul Wright was saying about the situation.
For me, I don't believe in a child disrespecting his or her parents. That isn't how I was raised and had I did that to my pops as a kid, I believe he would have literally beat me to the white meat showed!
Moral of the story is that as a Black father you have to show tough love, especially during these times. You said what you said and that is that..
As for the last part of the show, I personally would probably miss out on baby Cam Newton cuz it would be hard for me to charge a coach to the game for another one whose son is a star just off the strength of me not liking people who use kids as bargaining chips. Next thing, he may say that he will want to be the head coach or else his son won't play for your team.
But, I understand the competitive nature of coaching and wanting to win. Do what you gotta do and I hope things will work out for you and your football team.
Yeah, this is a long ass post, but I am at work not doing shit, so I have time. Lol
