"designers with agency experience?"

i've landed at a design agency and i think im in love.

... all i ever wanted to do was wear shorts to work - on any given day.

it's still new to me, but im curious about what other designers think about the 'fast-paced', 'demanding' environment.

have you ever worked at an 'agency'?

how long did you last?

are you still there?

what's your experience?

is it even worth typing about?

I have carved a lil' niche out for myself in that I've worked in a quite a few industries but Ive never been attractive to agencies

I've always been in house.

it was fun. learned a lot.
got to work on some cool stuff and because i live in a small market, you basically meet everybody else doing it in town so its a nice community and easy to network

i worked a lot of production so it wasn't as glamorous as being a creative director would have been.

i'm in an editorial design job now as an art director which i like better than doing advertising

There is a big ad agency near me and I have heard it's terrible to work there (long, demanding hours), but it's nice to get some big impressive names on your resume.

I have worked at web design/dev agencies. It is nice to get to work on different stuff all the time, and to have a buffer between you and the client. I work in house now and one of the best parts is not having to log your hours for every single thing you do to bill the client.

Working at an agency can definitely be a nice change if youre using to working at some corporate place. You can get the startup tech vibe without necessarily doing that type of work.

I've actually never worked anywhere that I couldn't just wear whatever I wanted. I'd never make it in your typical khaki pants and cubicle type office.

to land a gig at one...

not sure though

it is hard for me because i really have an issue with staying in one city lol

the key to happiness is not being rich;
it's doing something arduous and
creating something of value and then
being able to reflect on the fruits of your labor
