"I'm anti sunglasses"

I am socialy akward, extreme introvert yaadaa ya BUT I never felt compelled to hide behind glasses

I feel the make my look like an ass and do the exact opposite of what I prefer

Instead of allowing me to blend in they make me stand out

when I think of an asshole with glasses I immediately picture Scott Stortch

BTW I've always worn glasses since 9/10 for corrective vision so I've always viewed glasses as a corrective tool not a fashion assecory

I got some glasses once and a guy couldn't stop complimenting me and said he was going to get some like it non prescription

to me that's the equivalent of a person getting a fake air cast to rock on their foot because it looks cool

don't get me started on people that rock sunglasses on their head at all times

they are the anti cool to me

the percentage of people who actualy have a medical need for sunglasses is very few and far between

I feel some sort of way about all this can you tell

Not a lot of sunglasses work for me, but when I find a pair I look good in-watch out!!!!!!

Plus it's not just fashion or douchebaggery. I want to protect my vision for the future. Glare is fucking real. So are UV rays and cataracts, b.

Soooooo............yeah.

that I can't go outside without them without getting a headache. Even if it's cloudy I'll probably be wearing them. I'm aware that this probably makes me look like a prick, but I stopped worrying about that long ago.

Well I don't wear mine to hide or try to look extra cool

U seem to be projecting

I wear em because I got tired of squinting

I rarely wore em before but driving on a road trip one weekend with my boy changed my life when he handed me his pair of ray bans

Felt like I had been wasting years adjusting my visor and ball caps while behind the wheel

I don't wear em at night or indoors tho

If I'm going to be outside in the sun I wear em

Beats walking around squinting looking like I'm mean mugging folk

everyone has a tried and true reasoning that they are "saving the eyes from the blazing ball of sky fire"

yet somehow those glasses that are for medical need just so happen to match their socks and belt

and they are worn when their is no sky fire

I'm just sayin...

what did people do before sunglasses?

did everyone turn blind at 21?

I just prefer function over fashion when it comes to my presentation

Im simple like that

I'm not going to wear a nice looking watch for the look if I never plan on using it to tell the time

strange?

I don't rock hats unless their is a reason. To me it looks corny when cats try to look distinguished by rocking hats - like their whole outfit is built around a hat.

The times I do rock a hat function will be the priority not fashion.

That's just me though.

40. "but...sunglasses are very functional."
In response to Reply # 34

the right ones offer at least some protection from harmful uva rays (i hear). and i notice when i wear them it's easier to see when i'm outside. even on certain cloudy days - the uva rays poke through the clouds and some light gets through some clouds as well. so i'll wear them sometimes when the sun isn't fully 'out'. i rarely wear them indoors but i might if the indoor space has lots of sunlight. i'll wear them indoors on a train or a plane or in a car b/c the sun is shining through in those situations.

and yeah - they're also about fashion. but for me they're mostly about function.

In response to Reply # 40

On a sunny day while driving are indeed functional
But in your head while you are indoors at night not so much

You and I both know that the majority of people use sunglasses more for fashion than function.

I stick with the AO squared aviators: http://www.amazon.com/American-Optical-Original-Eyewear-Bayonet/dp/B00HQXP9V4

Or a pair of Warby Parker prescription sunglasses if my contacts aren't in.

I can actually see better with some nice polarized sunglasses when it's bright and sunny out. If I take them off my eyes feel a little more strained. I don't wear them as a fashion accessory.

totally fucked up on ___ and so i kept my sunglasses on and just hoped i didn't have reason to remove them. and then i ran into an old friend who works in the store and she was on her way out of town for good and so we had a 'goodbye' conversation. and i felt like such an asshole wearing sunglasses as we had this genuine moment. so i removed them. and my eyes were darting ALL OVER THE PLACE and my pupils were as big as saucers. and i felt worse about that. so i put them back on. and then i wanted them off...and the whole time i'm trying to have a moment w/my friend.... it was terrible. LOL

go to a boutique store and have someone fit you up. particular styles only fit particular face types. a fat face rocking caravans or aviators is gonna look dumb no matter what.

i was so excited when i switched to contacts b/c it meant i can wear sunglasses w/o needing prescription lenses. those things are expensive.

maybe part of this is abrock's jealousy over not being able to wear nonprescription sunglasses.

I wear regular lenses...but on days I wanna rock sunglasses, which is damn near daily in the summer...I wear contacts and sunglasses. It's hella cheaper than buying prescription joints, cuz eyeglass places be taxin for the frames AND lenses.

Where I had to buy something specifically to block it.

When I went to Africa I wore them but now I don't think I realy need them. People have lived without them fine for ages and still do.

They are a luxury or creature comfort we think we can't live with out.

Does the majority of those in 3rd world countries go blind without Ray bans?

i don't live in the third world and i can afford the "luxury." so i do.

contact lenses cause increased light sensitivity. pretty well documented. a good part of the reason why i wear sunglasses.

I have about 7 pair of glasses, and 6 of them transition. 1 pair of prescription sun glasses.

If I have to wear glasses they will be aesthetically pleasing and functional.

I rarely take photos in my glasses, that's how "cool" I think I am.

You sound like you have some issues to unpack which have nothing to do with glasses but more so perceived cool factor or inferiority.

what you consider cool/uncool is all personal preference not a deep down expression of your superiority/inferiority or is it?

a picture with sunglasses.

I just think it's so corny and cliche. It sounds random, but I remember seeing this one DJ for the first time back in 2009, and he was DJing with sunglasses on. He looked super untouchable, cool, cocky, all that shit. Then, I met him afterwards, and worked with him......he was the corniest, most square, goofy guy you could ever meet. And he was like 35 and lived with his mom, who would yell at him for his speakers blocking her car in the garage.

Dumb as that story sounds, I think that's really what makes me shake my head at how EVERY DJ throws on shades just to look cool. And rappers are even worse with it.

not douchey.

i wear Rx glasses and got Rx lenses put in my sunglasses. man, i hate it when i forget to switch em when i get out of the car and go in a store or something. i usually deal with it and walk around with slightly blurred vision, but sometimes i have to put em on to read something or see what i'm doing.

til after Dan Wheldon passed (I'm a big racing fan). He always wore white sunglasses, so at the Indy 500, all the drivers rocked white sunglasses in his honor. I was about to go on a lake trip and on impulse, I copped some white-framed Oakleys. I liked the look, so I stuck with them.

I haven't been able to wear real sunglasses in years, since my vision needed correction.

but before then, I went through a phase where I was almost always seen with them on. didn't care then, didn't now.
