And want to put cops under the jail.

It won't solve everything but a local prosecutor who has a close relationship with the local police simply can't effectively prosecute these crimes. We've seen it over and over and we have to do something about it.

There IS a presidential candidate who supports US Attorney prosecutions of police violence....just saying. Not that he can necessarily get it done but still.

i still blame hip-hop.

I don't agree with the decision, but Thompson played it smart when he let it be known publicly that he didn't want Liang to do any jail time. Helped to soften the blow dealt by the judge's ruling.

it looks bad on him

if the judge ignored him had he pushed for hard time, he still would have looked good - people would appreciate that he pursued justice to the very end. anyone who would have been upset at him being that hard wouldn't hold a grudge for too long b/c in the end they got what they wanted

he could have pushed for SOME jail time and looked better

I think it's some bullshit.

On one hand, I'm glad he at least received a guilty verdict; however, that sentence is trash.

I'm also honestly disappointed in all of the Asians who participated in the whole Justice For Peter Liang campaign.

http://brooklynda.org/brooklyn-da-ken-thompson/

Why did he have to be black? Dammit.

Brooklyn DA Kenneth Thompson shocked court observers and didn’t show up for the sentencing.

He had called for Liang to receive five years’ probation, six months of home confinement and 500 hours of community service — and taken plenty of heat from Gurley’s family and community activists for the move.

How the fuck you kill someone and get home confinement?

He was poorly trained and put in a situation he probably shouldn't have been in.

I mean he got startled, fired his gun into a wall, and the ricochet killed Gurley.
Out of all the incidents out there, this is the one that leads to a criminal conviction?

I'm actually okay with probation here.

This was the killing that really looked like an accident. Dude is still negligent because he didn't apply aid or call for the ambulance right away so I wouldn't feel sorrow if he went away, but this wasn't Eric Garner. That said, someone lost their life. How do you rectify that?

The whole incident is the reason that cops need to be in the academy at least a year or more...

I will never understand why its common practice to take a new fresh inexperienced cop and stick them in the worst neighborhood you can find...

like.. you think that shit really makes em better?

done time.

All the bad shit starts from there. His failure to give first aid or to appear to give a shit about Akai Gurley after the bullet hit him isn't even the worst part, in my eyes.

In response to Reply # 31

This dude has 5 years to be on the up and up. If he can do that, punishment served.

He was terrible at his job and that led to someone getting killed. I believe it was completely unintentional and, as such, we shouldn't be trying to throw the book at him.

Failure to perform CPR and call the incident in promptly doesn't warrant a lengthy prison sentence in my opinion

5 years ain't lengthy. I think 3-5 woulda been aight wit me.

Failure to perform CPR and call in the incident is the icing of a shit flavored cake

Dude should have never had his gun out the holster. He KILLED someone, even if it's accidental. And probation is OK?

Wow

In response to Reply # 51

poor training isn't an excuse for negligence. Just because local authorities don't shut it down is irrelevant. Local authorities do a lot of kcufed up things.

If you were aware that poor training was the reason for a product to perform negligently you would find that unacceptable and stop using the product.

free tickets to Sturgess and plenty of offers to speak at numerous rallies that champion taking the country back.

In all fairness black cops don't appear to go to jail either; at least not for killing other black people.
