"How do you account for your recent 3 year prison bid on your resumé?"
Fess up to being in prison?
Leave a 3 year gap?
Or do you play it both ways (like the resumé I'm looking at) and list the skills you developed at your prison job without listing the employer or specifically mentioning you were in prison?
and if asked during an interview i'd be prepared to talk about it. in fact i might bring it up during the interview - especially if i anticipated a background check that would include review of my criminal history. this assumes that the felony conviction would appear in my criminal history.
if that shit was sealed or expunged and my employer won't see it i might find something else to explain it away.
>especially these days when so many ppl have suffered through >'long' periods of unemployment or underemployment.
We all probably know someone who's been long-term un(der)employed, a couple of years gap is way more expected today than it was 30 years ago. Hell, some people just pack up and go travelling for years these days and they always seem to get back into it OK.
I'd give as little information as I had to, but if pressed specifically about prison obviously you've probably got to.
12. "True... Especially if there is no other freelance stuff on your resume." In response to Reply # 11
In media people freelance some years and others they don't at all... but they put it all under a single free lanceheading on their resume. But if you're working hourly or salary for a company it probably won't work. ___________________________________________________________
13. "Federally or State-sponsored leave of abscence" In response to Reply # 0
The Federal and/or state government encouraged an individual to take a leave of abscence on their dime for insert reason that is of diminished in stature relative to the crime committed.
