"Poll question: Would you euthanize a beloved pet at home?"

Our family dog is dying and my s/o wants the dog to be put down at home and then cremated etc.

I would rather have the dog put down at the vet. What say you?

I am not feeling it, but wifey is insistent. And I feel like she'll be grieving the next two years over this.

We were weepy and miserable, our son was incredibly tranquil about the whole thing, but is only remarking how much he misses the dog.

The vet came to our home, euthanized him very quietly and painlessly, and I carried him to her car, where she had a van waiting to take him to a crematorium.

It was dignified and compassionate. If you're in NY, I can give you the vet's name. She was great.

Its happening today, and our vet is cool. I would rather do it somewhere else because I feel like it will be an emotional trigger for my S/O everytime she is in the space where it was done.

Its a Black Lab/Pit. She's 13 years old, and is having severe issues with fluid buildup in her rear legs. She's at the point now where going to the bathroom is difficult. We had X-rays done a couple of weeks ago and she has tumors on her lungs. She's old and we don't want her to suffer.

This dog would have died several years ago if we hadn't switched the food. She used to have seizures- and it was because of a gluten allergy. We switched to the Origen food and she hasn't had a seizure since.

These hip problems have just popped up in the last year or two. She would occasionally pull a muscle but that was it.

The family dog at my parents' house got very sensitive and irritable at the end, and was hence not transportable, so we couldn't take her to the vet. We had a vet come to the house and do it there. He was very sweet and comforting...he made the experience not so bad, as far as those things go.

Normally we'd go to the vet, but after that, I might choose to do it at home if money isn't a consideration.

Let it go out at home in peace.

You tend to associate the space more with your pet's life than death.

There was very little mess and the vet took the corpse away.

And Kuba went out peacefully, rather than further stressed out before being killed.

Castro did say 'beloved pet'.

We live next to a big ass forest. I would like to take the pet in the back, have it euthanized and take it into the forest and bury her.

But it ain't going down like that.

to make life transition associations with one's home. When I was doing hospice volunteer work, we were in an old Victorian, which I'm sure had seen plenty of (human) death before the hospice moved in. Births and marriages too. Death is a life transition that doesn't necessarily create bad associations.

I strongly prefer not to put animals in extremis into any anxiety. Euthanasia at home keeps the animal in comfort to the end.

I'd rather not have anything remotely like that ever happen again.

She was surrounded by the whole family (and pets)....

She had a steak for her last meal....

Two needles and she went off peacefully.

and I know it will be rough over the next few months...but we also found out that my Son was invited to his first Prom...so its been a rollercoaster between, "who is gonna bark loud enough so all the jainks know that we have a dog in the house" to "Oh shit, I'll rent a Tesla for the night!"

Whatever will comfort him the most is what I'd want to do. And being at home is much more comfortable to him than being at the vet's.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.
