first, thanks for the response
second, my main concern is that it's one thing for cartoon/cgi characters to be in jeopardy (think: Toy Story 3) and its another for real-looking people/animals to be in jeopardy
methinks i'll wait till a few more parenting-type sites chime in with reviews
i will say the previews and whatnot make it look pretty dope, and i trust favreau to not make it suck

perfect timing; my daughter just a few weeks ago (before I even knew the movie was coming out) discovered the CD I ripped for my older kid 7 or 8 years back, from a great old LP I had when I was a kid of Boris Karloff reading some of the Just So Stories. She's has since moved on to Jim Weiss's complete reading and while she prefers the Karloff version she loves all the stories. She's stoked. Whole family's going. (Which is funny because we almost never go to the movies; we saw The Force Awakens but last movie I remember taking the kids to in the theater before that was Tintin, I think.)
Amazingly, she doesn't remember seeing the 1967 movie at all, though the older boy remembers it quite well. I don't remember when it was that we watched it.
For the other parents, I'll be back with thoughts later. My kids are 11, 9 and 5 so we'll have a pretty good cross section represented.

not because it was scary but b/c she had developed an acute middle ear infection moments before we left for the show. Made it heard for both of us to enjoy it as much as we should have.
By the time I got her to urgent after the show the drum had perforated, relieving the pressure, and she felt fine. Quite shitty timing overall.
But the movie was fun, nods to the cartoon but far from a remake of it. And the visuals were wildly impressive. Thought the Scarlet Jo and Dr. John remakes of the classic tunes were a nice way to take it out. And the BOOK!
But yeah all you parents, all three kids thought the movie was a lot of fun and while we all jumped ( b, you know the spot that got me!) at a few points even the 5 year old made it through without being scared enough to have bad dreams or want to leave or anything.
