"Has anyone ever been selected/win a sweepstakes? actually accepted?" Tue Apr-05-16 12:03 PM by eye.M.woman
ok heres the deal so I filled out a sweepstakes at the movie theaters I get a call today that I and 12 other people got selected. The sweepstakes is sponsored by a vacation/travel company. I have 1 hour to call back to lock in my spot
It is for a 3 night stay (she gave me options) for myself + husband + I can bring 4 people alonn and I chose las vegas. Also, I would get a voucher for $200
Trade off: I would have to sit in a 90 presentation (to sell whatever they are going to sell) but i made sure to ask if I had to buy anything and they said No. ok so they would cover flights/lodging -Transportation would be on us.
So after the presentation, we are also getting a 3night cruise and they had bahamas, mexico, some carribean island spots What we would have to cover: Port fees, alcoholic beverages, tips.
So this is what we get: 3 night at a hotel/flights 3night cruise vacation with food
What we pay: 76$ to lock down this offer port fee's for cruise alcohol tips
is this worth the 90 min presentation plus port fees and alcohol money and whatever else we have to pay for?
I havent accepted or anything cus im just paranoid shit sounds sketch plus I have no idea what they will get us into once we sit for that 90 min presentation

**************** TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

be prepared for an AGRESSIVE 90 minute pitch...weather the storm...buckle your wallet up tight...and watch as their faces get tight when you have 2 more days of "FUCK YOU I DON'T WANT ONE" vacation time.

They just show up to the timeshare meeting with their kids....and let there kids act crazy until the presenter invites them to leave. They have yet to last longer than 20 mins. So far that have been to Hawaii and some resort in Palm Springs. They paid for their own flights though. Free luxury accommodations though.

I used to work for a timeshare company doing sales.
so it will most definitely take more than 90 mins.
You will be really pressured to buy.
As long as you and your husband are both on board to not do it, they should leave you alone after a little while. Hopefully there will be another couple there who show interest.
Do not show any interest, like at all.

11. "That's not a sweepstakes or contests, that's a time share scam..." In response to Reply # 0
it's not actually a "Scam" per se. but its what they do to get ppl to sign up for their time shares. They have you come, show you a good time, and they hope that you sign up for their program or whatever they are offering. Even if only 1/4 of the ppl who attend, sign up, they made the money they spent bringing all of you out there.
Real contests and sweeps give you everything 100% free no strings attached at all.
I have won two trips. I took one of them. To chile, they only thing they asked me to do was to take pictures. that's it.
But yeah they are going to hassle you the whole time you're there.

make sure its in writing.
I'm a pro at this timeshare joint at this point. I posted a rundown on how to get through the presentation before, I'll try to find it (although we did get suckered into buying once lolol but we canceled and got our money back)

1st, find out all the requirements to get your free crap..most importantly how long the presentation is supposed to be. Google the timeshare company to see if people had issues receiving their gifts. Understand the difference between poor reviews from people who wanted the gifts without fulfilling their obligation vs people who fulfilled the obligations but still had issue receiving their gifts. When the presentation is supposed to start, confirm with them the length its supposed to be bc you have to be xyz an hour later
2nd, dont fight them through the process. Give them the answers that you feel that they want to hear. It facilitates the process. If he's on his first point and you are being resistant all that means is that he's gonna spend an extra 5-10 minutes to convince you on point 1.
3rd halfway through the presentation, let them know its already been xyz minutes or that there is xyz minutes left. Also let them know when its like 15-30 mins left.
4th when it comes to your decision time, stick to your no. Why aren't you interested? bc although you plan to take xyz vacations over the next 20 years, you aren't obligated to that. So if your financial situation changes you have the flexibility to change or skip a vacation that year, with a timeshare you are forced to spend that money. There really is no retort to that. Also you've noticed that there were plenty of timeshares for this place available on the resale market for cheaper. They will say that by buying directly you get the added benefits of xyz, however that fact that so many people are looking to resell their timeshare means that they weren't pleased with their purchase. That' ll def knock em off base and make the sales guy run and get his closer to offer a 'special' deal.
5th and most important, make sure your wife or whoever is sitting through the presentation with you is on the same page.
