"Poll question: where the hell were all these Golden State Warriors "fans" 3 years ago?"

the bandwagon is the official vehicle of nut-riders everywhere.

ain't nothin worse than somebody that has rode for the lakers/bulls/spurs/cavs/heat/warriors in their lifetimes.

and i mean RODE for them. poppin shit & the whole 9.

and to clarify: i'm not saying you rode for 1 of the aforementioned teams. nah, you was on ALL of em. cuz whoever was hot at the time, that's who you were with.

pick a team and stick with them. forever.

Lifelong fan also

But I really am like... where were these fans at even in '13 when it was SA vs GSW in the western conf semis?!

Like the amount of blue/yellow I see out here has tripled in that time it's nuts

But I'll converse with a new GSW fan all day before I talk to someone who's a GSW fan cause they like Curry... Ayesha Curry

And really it's a byproduct of your team doing well, we all know that. SA has its bandwagoners too

Since Chris Mullin was a foul-prone shooting-guard with a busted hair helmet.

Since the days of Larry Smith Fan Club doing the Pee-Wee to "Tequilla" during the fourth quarter.

Since the days when they'd play Aretha's "Respect" during a time-out in the midst of a late game runs.

Fuck that, I've seen fire and I've seen rain with this team. Can't nobody tell me shit.

but now your anger is more sensible since both teams are somewhat close to each other in terms of dominance this year.

I do wonder how many more years Pop will coach. I have to think Kawhi's future growth is going to extend Pop's reign for the Spurs.

Kobe haters went crazy tryna find the next dude that was better than bean...mcgrady, iverson, Vince etc. Finally bron came along.

Bron haters gave bron his due while he was reigning, nobody was propping durant or Wade as being better, we just clowned bron for shrively scrotums (c)basa from time to time.

Then steph curry happened...organically. just goes to show how forced kobe haters were and how mature bron haters are

but i would never argue how solidified his position is in the top 5 dead or alive club.

I switched my baseball team but it was a legit downgrade at that time.

I grew up a Braves fan since my family was from Georgia. My ol man & grandpop had us watching them all the time. I was a military brat and we were never stationed anywhere near Georgia as we grew up. So I was lucky that TBS showed them nationwide.

But then TBS decided to stop showing the games and that was right around the time we moved to Florida (2005). So me & my girl (she was a Reds fan) both picked up the Rays.

Thus, I mostly root for players.

Since I really enjoy Steph, I find myself rooting for GSW.

Also rooting for the Knicks cuz I said before the draft that Porzingod would be a beast and it's been great watching him. If the Knicks could only ditch that bum Melo and build a team around Three 6 Latvia, they might be getting somewhere.

Anyhow, those are the two teams I'll go out of my way to watch.

Football too.
I mean I root for the hometown team, but they aren't always my favorite.
Soccer is the only sport where I have that kind of intense loyalty to one team.

Your team is now awesome, what you think fair weather fans *aren't* gonna get hyped about an awesome team?? just enjoy the ride. your team is great. you want the place empty and silent?

It was Game 3 of the opening round series against the Jazz. We'd taken two from them in Utah and had game back to finish the job. On top of that, it was the night the gave Mitch Richmond the ROY award. It was fucking deafening. So loud that it hurt.

filling 15-20k in a major city like the Bay, LA, Toronto, New York, Boston, is easy. filling a 35-50k basball stadium, is less easy.

if you think the fans that aren't at games don't matter, you are misinformed. the wild TV ratings that occur when teams get good translates to BIG advertising dollars, which lends itself to teams making bigger splashes in trade deadlins/free agency. its good for the city/team when EVERYONE jumps on board. getting a 15k to attend a game in a city of millions? foh that's bare minimum.

unless a team is going 15-67 over a season, it's not that hard to sell out games.

Bandwagoning isn't as frowned upon because of the constant movement of "stars", it doesn't seem to be as ingrained into civic fabric like baseball or football - except in certain cities, and plus with such a long season (and hellishly long playoffs) - it's tough for a casual fan to latch on until the playoffs or even the semi-finals.

Streets won't let me chill.

that said, as much as i dont respect band wagoners as true fans, it's one hell of a great problem to have. what irks me even more are the Warrior haters at bars/restaurants rooting for opponents just to hate.

plus, three years ago they were a hot team, 5 years ago would be a better window.

i'm more surprised at all the recent Clippers fans. now where the hell where they?

Draymond has gotten better at shooting 3s, but that's him improving his game. He always go to the rack, catches lobs, etc.

Now, they have very few back-to-basket, post-up players. But that's not the same as always launching 3s.

I don't really care if he's been shooting 3's since way back when. Both Geen and Iggy should rarely attempt them. I would think it would be a better idea for them to go for easy buckets. Green should work on I'm proving in other areas of his offensive game seriously.

maybe the energy's changed, as i haven't been to a game out there since rick adelman's early 2000's run, but arco was one of the loudest arenas i've ever been in.

and, the kings *did* stay in sacramento instead of moving to seattle, despite having like five years in a row of only 20 or 30 wins a season.

i've always known sac fans to be unwavering.

I think Kings fans have more irrational Warrior hate than the next guy, especially since crowds are 50/50 when the Dubs visit Arco. But I chalk that up to more Warriors fans down to make the trip than have to pony up cash to watch at Oracle. Club 200 over $100 now? GTFO

and since they won the chip last year, I see nothing but people rocking Warriors gear EVERYWHERE. Even moreso than Lakers or Clippers gear. And that's no matter where in So Cal I go, OC/LA/San Diego , etc.

Even the stores have more Warriors gear than any other team down here.

Now don't get me wrong, I know there are a lot of transplants from the Bay in So Cal but since they won the chip, I see more fandom down here than I've ever seen.

dub nation has eclipsed the SF giants bandwagon in terms of shamelessness.

why? because circa pre-2013 most people in the bay area COULDN'T CARE LESS about the sport itself. "sorry, flash, i'm just into basketball." -- the stock response at the espresso machine, in the meeting room, at the bar.

fast forward to today, and now you got insufferable tech bros hosting "ugly sweater" warriors game happy hours in fucking uptown!! era art bar... mad oak by the lake. i ain't even lying.

several years ago she would've mentally lumped him in with the rest of the "nba thugs", but now becky in russian hill just loves her draymond bobble head!!

exponential population boom from newly-transplanted millennials + new championship teams = perfect storm of bandwagon calamity.

re: folks who actually watched the NBA, most of these flat-billed-hat asian/filipino niggas you see all over? they were riding for the lakers five years ago. oracle arena was basically staples center north.

at least the giants fans get a bit of pass, since most *actually watched the sport*, even if happened to be their home state twins, tigers and indians.

(respect for the long-time W's fans, though. i know several, whom i went to games with many years ago, and whom incidentally aren't too happy lacob's moving the team to SF.)

just moved back to the bay a few months ago after 10 years in la and this is heaven to me

i wish there had been bandwagoners there so i had more people to talk to about hte dubs, but i didn't really find anybody that gave up on the lakers to be honest

i get why non-warriors fans would be mad about the constant praise/attention/etc. but i don't really care lol

Just moved to the Bay Area. But I'm a big MSU fan because I went there, so I'm a big Draymond Green fan. Everyone here wears Curry's number but I after my first Warriors game, I had to get a Draymond tee.

The Warriors are a good team, so I understand the bandwagon jumping.

I get tired of bandwagon accusers. Team rosters can be nearly completely different from year to year. I like to be a fan of what teams can do. Not their potential. And not some stupid brand loyalty. I am a fan of people, not products.

Since then, it's only gotten more feverish now with Curry, but 2007 is when the Warriors started transitioning to one of the favorite teams. Plus, they've always had a dope name and one of the dopest jerseys (the city).

back then, first round exits even with Run DMC doing intros. Chris Webber was gonna bring them to the next level, but then he left after a year. Then, it was just dark ages forever until 2007. So this current crop may have started more around then.

unless we consider all fans as bandwagoners if they go to more games as the team wins. I see it moreso when people who don't even live in the city start reppin a team, or people in the city who never even knew the star player's name have a jersey overnight.

So I figure they had some local bandwagoners back in the TMC era, but that was 15 years from the Baron era. I personally don't even think the bandwagon got many fans in 2007, and if so, it didn't sustain to 2013, which is when they started showing promise.

Any team that wins a chip gets new fans- that's sports. ANY SPORT.

Just taking issue with this dude claiming there weren't Warriors fans before 2013. I and plenty other are evidence to the contrary.
Hope the south toughens up a little bit and can give up some trouble again

Of course Run TMC was the OG, but most of these current fans aren't hold overs from the '88-'91 seasons. The Baron Davis teams directly preceded this current roster. Bandwagon fans from that team didn't have to wait too long. From '91-2007 is a long ass time.

Only the so called "boring" champions (Spurs) or champions without a popular superstar(04 Pistons) don't really get the bandwagon effect.
