size aside.... Plus keep in mind that the 4SE is an old phone with new internals basically.... I should say old design.....
Check out the S7 if you're after a smaller phone. Personally...I stepped down from the Note 4 to the S7 Edge for precisely the same reason as you (except i'm cool with two bulges, gotta keep these hoes on they toes)

if i stuck with android, might look at the nexus 6p.... li like stock andoid and having access to the latest updates asap... wished the 5x had 6p specs..

HTC, ZTE, LG, and a grip of other companies still make smaller android phones many with dead stock Android.
