"would you ever condone the mistreatment of criminals?"
for the sake of the post, the criminals are guilty.
when i say mistreatment, i'm talking straight up torture on the high end and reckless indifference on the low end.
is there any circumstance where you'd be for it?
does it make a difference who the criminal is and what the did?
i'm thinking about the Brussels attack and wondering what would happen to the people who did it if they were caught.
and on the low end, i think about the Jared from Subways of the world and how people casually toss around the thought of them gettin that work while in prison.

Do I want violent criminals tortured by the state? Nah, not at all.
Do I feel bad when rapists and murders get beat down in prison? Nah, not at all.
Yeah, the nature of the crime changes things for me. I'd never advocate torture, but I wouldn't feel too bad if *certain* criminals received torture, if that makes any sense.

A few rules should be in place.
First, what constitutes a victim for this purpose should have a well defined set of guidelines, i.e, you're the actual victim or the parent, spouse, or sibling of the victim, among other factors.
Second, said victim would be the one to dish out whatever that mistreatment is.
Frankly I think most people might want to do some serious damage in the moment but would eventually ease up when faced with actually having to hand out that punishment.
Frankly I think the only group that would take advantage of such a system in any significant number would be parents or spouses of victims. Most people would likely turn that other cheek and just leave it at jail time.
if they're guilty like you said, instead of putting them to death, I think we should stop experimenting on animals and use these perfectly worthless motherfuckers.
People need to make up their mind, are criminals redeemable? Do you believe that one can atone and correct past behaviors ? If so ,what does torture and prison rape achieve? If not..... Also, I am pro death sentence but cannot think of one judicial system today I trust to carry it out fairly and impartially.

In the hypothetical ticking bomb scenario, I might be in favor of officials violating the law on torture.
I'd never advocate legalizing torture though. I think in the extremely rare (possibly so rare it wouldn't happen) situation where it were justified by a a certainty of knowledge of dangerous plans in motion, the jury wouldn't convict, and this should be the process.
