"Just hit 30 now what? 30+ OKPs did you feel a change after turning 30?"

everyone keeps telling me I'm old now. I really don't believe so, compared to others who are older.

But

I definitely feel like a part of a different generation all together. I feel like that is becoming more evident than before, especially with my brother's teenage kids.

So how did you react to turning 30?

What are you proud you accomplished before 30?

What do you wish you had accomplished?

What did you love doing as a 20 yr old that you cant/wont do as a 30 yr old?

General shit about being 30.

since then i've completed grad school, bought 2 houses, had 2 children. so, life is quite different. it's been a great 10 years, though. i've definitely grown and matured as a person, even though i don't really feel like it Haha. nights are shorter and mornings are earlier, that's for sure.

when i turned 30 we had a HUGE party. that shit was live. enjoy it, my man. pretty soon you'll be in your Upper 30s like me.

but I changed a lot. I discovered who I wanted to be, what kind of people were(nt) for me. I got stronger and somewhat better at managing my depression

everything is one day at a time with gradual changes though, when I turned 30 I had no clue I'd be moving to LA 2 years later or married another 2 years after that

overall you should be in a way more adult place than you were in your 20s

you seem to wear your depression like either a badge of honor, or toilet tissue stuck to the bottom of your shoe.

if what i'm noticing is the latter, consider this a heads up.

you got some shit stuck to your shoe.

...

did you take drugs for your depression, or did you work your way out of it with new clothes and regular showers?

it sounds funny, but that's a serious question.

Just being out here this whole winter kept my normal spats of seasonal blues way down. not having to be couped up in the house during the winter has been a big part of it I am sure. Just being able to go outside .... take a walk .... and get some sun whenever I want is pretty awesome. Everybody keeps asking me if I am staying out here and I keep saying the only thing that is compelling me right now in the weather but it is not a strong enough reason for me to be away from my family but after thinking about it from the angle of this post I have a new perspective.

the key to happiness is not being rich;
it's doing something arduous and
creating something of value and then
being able to reflect on the fruits of your labor

2008-2010 was a really bad time, most of that was resolved and behind me by the time I moved out here in 2012

different circumstances have triggered it since moving (being fired and denied unemployment for 8 months in 2013)

things are mostly better these days, but good weather is never a bad thing

it takes forever for physical wounds to heal.
thinking about fucking women less than 22? think again.
you'll become less and less likely to give up your seat on the train.
you're no longer the first to know about new shit that relevant to real youths.

It's like you immediately become even more secure and confident in yourself, and like you said you can still get out and do things.

20s-party
30s-fix everything you messed up in the 20s. Credit/finance grows, all BS slides to the side and you realize your happiness is more omportant.
40's-party with your increased credit and finance
50's-Fix the little things you depleted in the 40's but still living
60s-Doing you with finess with no care in the world

we keep it moving,

When I turned 30 I was pumping the shit out of 30 is the new 20 by Jay-Z because I felt it.

Yeah you can feel a little old being around people younger than you at clubs and in social setting but in reality they aren't that much younger than you.

There is also something about you body changing that can make you feel old but at 30 alot of athletes are hitting their prime.

What makes me feel old at 39 is life's responsibilities. Children, Aging Parents, Mortgages, that shit can make you feel old.

Also a 39 year old body just can't do what a 30 year old body and that can make you feel really old.

didn't know 2 other okps shared the the 10th.

It's funny how 5 years difference between people becomes less and less apparent. in mind set, appearance, abilities.

and infant to a 5 years old is a huge difference

5 to 10 is big to

10 to 15 huge again

15 to 20 not that different

20 to 25 seems big

25 to 30 I feel likes different cuz I was family who are that old or younger and they seems very different.

but 30 to 35 and so on, that difference really diminishes

Real talk, it's like I literally ran out of fucks to give. Felt like I finally became an adult with adult thinking and clarity. I'm 38 now, and physically I feel the same as 30. It's the sudden mental leaps that I made (and still am making) that I've really noticed. Again, that was at 35/36 tho.

im 35 now and I thought I would be winding it down with a family by now but I'm really winding it up with moving to NYC almost two years ago and since I've been here my pace has picked up and I'm in the process of launching a product. crazy fucking times.

.... So everything changed then.
I entered my 30s with 2 degrees, a child and thinking I had it all figured out.
Spent my 30s realising I didn't know shit and spent the last few years basically unlearning most of what I thought I knew if that makes sense

Basically my 20s were a warm up. Life got real in my 30s. I think I came out ok and feel like I'm just getting started.

Buckle up and enjoy the ride, man.

i turned 30 a few months ago and a week before my bday i took off to travel alone for the first time. i haven't been back since. my 20s werent that great. so I was glad to put that decade behind me; and being somewhere new really helped me feel like i could start over

i feel more secure and confident so i have challenged myself more this year than ever before

all in all, i take life more seriously now (physical/mental health, relationships, and my time).

30 came and went (dope party though)..

err think 35 felt a little like something but only in the sense that Im closer to 40 than 30...

I enjoy sleep more.. lol

My taste is better than in my 20s for sure

I dont accumulate as much "stuff" as I used to

Guess I pay attention to my body aches more (especially on tour). Other than that no big shifts came with age..

If anything my BIGGEST shift in outlook as come with my girl... certainly our relationship has changed a ton for me..

das it..

Everything.

School? Went back.

Hair? Chopped it all off.

Job? Quit. Got 2 new, better ones.

I suddenly felt like everybody else's opinions meant nothing. We say that a lot, how
we don't care what others think. But I didn't really FEEL that until I hit 30.
And I started living my life in a different, more effective way.

The only thing I hated about turning 30 is that I wished I had done all this in my 20s.
But I wasn't ready. I am now. So, onward.

Enjoy!

Also, folks will tell you that you look way younger than 30, because
for some reason people think of 30 as OLD. Enjoy that too.
Apparently I look 23 right now. I'll take it, lol.

and I felt old. Than a couple of years later I felt stupid for thinking I was old at 23.

I remember turning 3o and feeling old, and a couple of years later feeling stupid for thinking I was old at 30.

I remember turning 35 and feeling old, and a couple of years later feeling stupid for thinking I was old at 35.

When I turn 40 I am pretty sure I will be old at that point.

In response to Reply # 0

It may be a milestone for some, but for me, I would say that once I got into my mid to late 30s is when I noticed some changes.

I will say that I wish young people will stop viewing 30 years old as being old. It is far from that. I am well into my 40s and still get referred to as a young man by older people as well as still get carded.

30 is a good age to start getting your priorities in order. It is also a good time to start a family, purchase a home and building a safety nest for retirement, all of which I wish I would have done when I was that age.

I think there is a day where you feel old and a day when you actually are too old for some spots.

My brother is a few years older than me and a few years back he said he went to a club and realized he was the oldest dude in there. He said that was the moment he realized it may be time to hit up lounges instead of clubs.

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

If I had to give someone advice, I would say, "Don't make up for lost time."

Appreciate the missed opportunities for love or success as something that builds hunger to fully appreciate the deliciousness of success.

You will have missed opportunities for success, you will miss out on love, but being able to love yourself and be secure in your humanity as much when you take a step back as you would during a step forward will help you be more genuinely appreciative when things do break your way.

That being said, have a great 30th.

next level work hard and play hard experiences with the career and me time blowing up. got to try grad school, land a dope career, stack paper, travel to hella countries, gallivant with some blazing ladies, make some of my best art, etc. the pace continues. i would say one of the big things that helped was to develop practices such as athletic and martial training and mindfulness to help facilitate the beasting. same with regular sojourns abroad. i'm headed to mexico again to scuba and cuba for carnaval soon, among other inspirational spots. teaching is a tough gig but i'm working it and don't look a day over late 20s, or so i'm told.

To start, I'm happy that I still look mid 20's. And not like how everybody claims to look young or whatever, but people seriously never believe that I'm anything over 27-28 until they talk to me. This hairline lasting, yo.

But serious....eh....turning 30 was actually rougher than anybody I know thinks. I quit my job, mainly to focus on DJing full time, in June 2014, exactly six months before I turned 30, which was in December 2014. I made more money DJing in the month BEFORE I quit than I ever made after that, mainly because I was out of town a lot, and that actually doesn't pay as good if you're not getting thousands per gig.

So with that...the week of my 30th, I had been applying for jobs. I had enough money to survive, but not enough to live. Every month, my bank account was getting lower like T-Pain and Flo-Rida's hook. But because I had quit, and was seen as "inspiration" to everybody I know who hated the hell outta their jobs and wished they could live off of their passion, it had me in a tough place, and I just wanted a regular ass job again.

I got a call the day before my birthday for an interview with Aflac, for what they called an "Account Executive" position. I had zero idea what this meant, but...sounds kinda fancy? They said they saw my resume n all that, so yeah.

The interview is on my 30th birthday. I almost turned it down just because of that, but fuckit, it'll be great to bring in 30 with a new job, right? Well....I get there...I see 20 people sitting down in a classroom type setup, and they're playing Disco music loud. Like Burn, baby, burn type shit. Cuh.

I sit down, wait for the shit to start, and dude comes in. Dude is overly charismatic, in a straight salesperson/Pastor type of way. Ten minutes in, I finally get it....they want me to walk door to door to sell insurance. Hell no. FUCK no.

I left and that shit really made me feel even worse about turning 30. 18 means you're a legal adult. 21 means you can legally drink. 25 means you are early in your career and on the right path. 30 means you are solid and on the path to success. Right? Well I just took a HUGE step back, and this was the ultimate "what the fuck is next?" moment for me.

I had a huge fancy ass 30th B-Day the day after in Beverly Hills. Hella people there, and a whole lot telling me that they were proud of me for following my dreams, leaving that corporate shit behind, and following my passion. I'm smiling and all, but was really feeling like "nah.........if y'all only knew....."

I kept DJing, and things were still just moderately successful for me on that side. Felt like I was still just making enough to pay bills, and nothing else...and the bank account was still getting lower. The next month, I applied to HEEEELLA jobs, and started getting a lot of calls back. I had 3-4 interviews in this month, and..............................no job. Fuck.

At that point, I said fuck it all, I quit work to DJ, so let me just go even harder with this. I refocused on that side of things, and kept it going, but January and February are ALWAYS the slowest months of the year for us, so it was tough.

March came, and yeah, shit was still not looking great, but I hadn't been applying for jobs. Then, I got a call from out of nowhere from DIRECTV, which was the company I had quit, for a brand new position in a completely different department (I was IT, this was for Special Accounts/Software Engineering). I went in for the interview, and it just felt perfect...completely different energy from my other interviews. Before I left, I almost arrogantly asked them, "how soon can I expect to hear something back?" and they said "by next Friday (seven days)." I walked out, got in my car, and got a phone call before I even drove out...they cancelled their other interviews and said they wanted to hire me.

It was a huge pay cut from what I made before, and I didn't care, because the schedule was perfect for me as a DJ, and because it was a new direction...I was tired of doing IT Support for 7 years.

So yeah....overall, 30 started off the wrong way, but things all worked out eventually.

I've always thought of 30 as the age where you're really an adult, and being "old". Lately though I'm more open to it.
