It just feels like shucking when you see a young brother up there on the table and a bunch of people just staring at him......and the Desiigner video is at XXL offices. Why does he even have to do that for them. At least in the Shmurda video, you knew that the kid was trying to get signed.
I think one rapper probably did this stand-on-the-table thing and it probably was cool......then. Other rappers prolly tried to replicate that only to look goofy in comparison.

Arguably we've actually got less people catching bodies on wax then in 2016 then 1996, although probably because back in the day it was cool to be the shooter, now everyone fashions themselves as kingpins.
As far as the example below, you DEF. see cycles in music when old becomes new again, although I dont see that in this case as opposed to the kids re-configuring the nihilism that we left them...and arguably that was before there were huge payouts to be gangster as there is today. it's the foreign-to-your-ears combination of extreme slant rhyming and whatever the term for the very southern habit of not pronouncing the ends of words is. let's call it a very soft consonant drawl
the result of that combination is functional, stylistic, and true to southern speech
but it comes across as super disingenuous and reeks of desperation when non-southerners try to do it

If you're amazing at your craft it doesn't matter what you talk about. These dudes rappin about bullshit and it sounds dumb as fuck as well because they can't rap and have no lyrics.
You can talk about hoes, guns, and some more shit and be live as fuck and I'll still nod my head to it, may even give it a lot of spins. This shit is not whats up though. Sad that something this stupid could even get remotely popular. It almost seems like a parody, they're dead serious about it.
