"Wait... Why didn't Jay do the halftime show?"

Has a song with Chris Martin. Married to Bey. I'm not knocking Bruno, but his presence really made no sense in context. Even if Hoc can't dance the whole battle of the sexes thing would have been on point with Jay considering. I know the whole show was cobbled together after push back for the coldplay choice. But I'm wondering if there's some underlying anti rap at the super bowl thing that kept this from happening.

b/c as you said - he's a natural fit b/c he's worked w/Coldplay and Yonce.

but maybe they chose Bruno b/c of 'Uptown Funk' (1 billion YouTube views, 9x platinum in USA mostly in 2015) and the fact that he's performed at the SB previously and was well-received. Jay-Z doesn't have a hit like 'Uptown Funk' (afaik) and may not be as big a draw (at least w/the SB crowd?) as Bruno Mars.

fuck you.

I mean people watch just to hate. And if you got Beyonce and Coldplay how many more outlier fans are there?

And if he was considered who told him, "we think we're going to go with Bruno this time Hov. We need more people."

I remember them releasing Parachutes and A Rush of Blood To The Head,
and it seemed like everyone loved them. X&Y was aite... then their
subsequent albums kinda lost me... but suddenly, they were back in
the spotlight and everyone hated them.

When and why was it that everyone started hating them dudes?

First two major label releases are great material... they've gotten
to Prince-like "I check for them because they'll have a good song or
two" status pretty quickly, but they started out great.

They have always been clowned (and at times unfairly) beginning with their first hit "Yellow." Coldplay had to fight accusations that they were merely Radiohead Lite....

I think it starts to get unfair when people shit on them for being Nickleback level hacks...Coldplay is a "good" band....

But they were still a poor choice to play the Super Bowl....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

IARAT - They're a pop band that look on the surface like an indie/rock band, and that causes cognitive dissonance for people.

agreed on the first 2 albums

I was a fan

I tuned out at Viva La Vida

just felt like everything became a sing songy regurgitation of the previous sing songy rendition

Oh Oh Oh Oh OOOOOOOOHHHHHH

rinse wash and repeat for the next 10 years...

as has been said, they intially had that indie rock vibe and potential

which turned into pop standards, safe and predictable

now that I think of it, probably exactly who you want for a SB halftime

but to my initial reply

halftime act gets like 12 minutes

Bruno and Bey could have done that w/o coldplay. (or Jay for that matter)

they share nothing other than 2 lead singers who sing weird

i say this as someone who found Radiohead to be overrated as hell an who thinks Coldplay's greatness all but ended past their debut album

i like both but they are nowhere near lite Radiohead...

they both have white male leads with a penchant for sounding melancholic even when they aren't

that's the end of the similarities

Outside looking in, Hov is not a safe choice. Niggas know business-minded Hov is not gonna do anything to mess up money or reputation, but old white guys planning a halftime performance would be tense thinking he'd go rogue and do an album version of something.

even though it wasn't they fault, i don't think we gon see rap acts on that stage again.

Besides, the SB show ain't for jay z. They want someone with some flair and theatrics.

and yeah they were female.

But i don't think there will ever see a jayz, kanye, snoop, kendrick etc on that stage.

Beyoncé new song is trash.
Beyoncé is pretty much just something nice to look at. The music is secondary.

didn't even know about Coldplay until last week and they make no sense for a halftime show setting..

I wonder why Foo Fighters haven't been asked, think they would fit that setting a lot better.

I'm not a huge Foo fan but think they are looked at as way better than Nickelback.. Groehl gets a lot of respect from what I have seen. Hell, Prince covered them on his Super Bowl. Nickelback has always been awful and not relevant for like 20 years. Foo still do numbers I believe but could be wrong..

A lot...

Nickleback sucks not because they r uber popular, corny as fuck and are the go-to band for people that don't fuck with rock...

They suck because their songs sucks...THEY suck...It's Bro ROCK that's so dumb, so lifeless that it would have to be a joke...

Foo Fighters actually have 1 GREAT album and two to three good albums...Albums that I can play without feeling like a DWEEB....

Being popular, mainstream does not = SUCK.....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

In response to Reply # 50

I just compared the two and no one is as bad as Nickelback. The Foo Fighters are still in that group of worst bands ever. They are about a level above the Nickelbacks and Disturbed or Staind. Weezer is an decent band I'm not the biggest fan but I like some of the songs. I'd put Weezer way above Foo Fighters.
