"What's the difference between a great sports bar and an okay one?"

There are certain minimum standards for any sports bar we could probably all agree on:

Good TVs with the right game on
Cold beer
Full bar
Good wings
Solid burgers

But what elevates a sports bar from good enough to great?

i still blame hip-hop.

For me the food just has to be passable and I'm not picky about it.

The main thing is that I want to be able to see the game and I don't want some fucking annoying sound setup where delays from receiver to receiver make it sound like dog shit or I am hearing commentary from six games at once in a grand murmuring blather of Joe Buckness.

Better have good pitchers.

Also hot chicks working there is a big plus.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

I understand if 90% of the place is there watching a specific game. They're not gonna let you switch to your squad.

But this is about those times when it's wide open and you ask for a certain channel. If they're not busy, it shouldn't take 20 min to change to a specific channel. if you're a sports bar, be ready to find sports on your TVs.

EDIT - One of my all time favorite spots is Stevie Tomato's in Ft. Myers, FL. We got to be regulars (because there's not much to do in that town) and whenever we got there, the crew would ask if there was a specific channel we wanted to watch. And they were able to make the change quickly, easily and without a lot of fuss.

and the bartender wouldnt budge. he wouldnt turn a single tv to the basketball game.

on my way out the door, i grabbed a card for the manager. i emailed him the next day and told him how me & few of my friends racked up a big ass bar-tab at the spot next door because they had the game on and his bartender refused.

the guy was cool. told me to come back one day and ask for him. i did & he comped the bill.

Another bar in Charlotte wouldnt turn the sound on for the Panthers Steelers game a few years back. Granted we were a table of 12 and we are from Pittsburgh but still...

IF i wanted to answer questions all game, i coulda stayed home and watched with the wife.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Shout an exclamation, sure, but then turn to your friends or favorite message board and make your comments an actual conversation. I've always HATED people who treat bars as their own living room, especially with regards to sports.

They. Can't. Hear you.

Don't try to have a conversation with Jim Harbaugh or Russell Wilson. They can't hear you. Talk to your friends, not the TV.

My biggest pet peeve with regards to this is calling players out by number. In Husker country you hear "cmon, seven! Throw the damn ball right seven! Bench his ass Riley"

I'd so much rather here "cmon! (At the tv, turns to friends) you see that? Armstrong with another wild pass. This fuckin guy...Riley should bench him for a series."

There is a direct correlation between the amount of crack in a given bar and the amount of hilarity/fun. I kinda miss going to dive bars and experiencing all the depravity.
