So there's another (somewhat) prominent hip-hop site that's doing a best hip-hop albums tournament. A few of the match-ups are actually really good. Some of them are jokes. But it's a simple vote for this one or that one, so I decided to take their 2000-2015 match-ups and post em here, where people could (hopefully) voice their opinions.


It's a huge tournament. They did 80s albums, 90's albums, and are doing 00's right now. Then the winners of each era will go head-to-head.

MBDTF is only lauded because white rock critics told you it was brilliant.

Phrenology isn't one of the best Roots album but it still stands up incredibly well for an early 2000s major label rap release. I remember playing the shit out of it in 02-03 tho.

The Roots are the band white rock fans like if they don't like any other hiphop.

I've been voting at the site...and there are facebook convos that occur for each matchup...

but most of the others are locked in except for this matchup...

I think that it made more sense for The Roots to make that album, then... than they ever got credit for.

Now, MBDTF is kind of .... I dunno. It's probably my least listened to Kanye album. Not wack. Actually one of Kanye's best. But it ain't seeing LR or... YEEZUS (yep, I said it).

Phren is a great album though. Criminally underrated.

The songs on there are amazing and ghost is in rare form, but definitely not good enough to make up for the atrocious skits.

FWIW, Life is Good is a very solid listen. A classic grown man/adult hip hop release IMO.

I didn't listen to SC until mid 2000's - so never fell in love with it.. in fact I like fishscale more.

But LIFE IS GOOD was in steady rotation... till - currently.
