"Why does Tarantino gets a pass for crap and M. Night get's killed?"

Real talk Tarantino makes some BS films with not depth, plus he get a pass for saying Nigger as many times as possible. But M. Night gets killed and his films always have a theological depth that causes many to think.

But at the very least his films are "entertaining" so he passes the minimum requirements. And his annoying auteurs tendencies aren't nearly as bad as Shyamalan's.

The nigger thing is probably the reason I'll never count his films among my favorites.

But I can't think of an M. Night movie that I'd recommend to anyone other than the Sixth Sense. Even his less shitty ones feel dispensable.

I mean the white washing of that source material and the casting of a person of color as the villain was cooning of the highest order.

Signs the first 90 minutes A+
the last 10 probably some of the worst scripting and directing I've ever seen

Untouchable is his second best work (behind sense of course) but still doesn't compare to a films like Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown or Kill Bill Vol 2

what he did with Last Airbender is depressing
The Happening was even worse
Lady in the water even worse

You communicate exclusively through memes.
Your opinions aren't even real opinions.

You just saw this shit in a meme on facebook and/or PTP and regurgitated it without adding any perspective whatsoever.

You’re on Fat Jew status.

You’re RegurgiBot, scanning memes and then spitting them out like they’re your own half baked ideas and poorly thought out catch phrases.

If the scanner is broken you just pull out your trusty can opener and Viola! More prepackaged perspective for consumption.

Every “opinion” you’ve ever expressed can be found on a coffee mug, tee shirt or bumper sticker.

But second off Tarantino's movies have gotten much better reviews across the board.

THE MRQE ratings for QT (only real movie critics in this iindex)
RD- 82%, PF - 90% ,JB - 88%, KB1-79%, KB2 - 79%, DP - 68%, DU - 81%, H8- 79%

The MRQE for MNS -
Wide Awake - 48%, Sixth Sense - 78% , Unbreakable - 68% , Signs - 70%, The Village - 70%, Lady in The Water - 48%, Happening - 45%, Last Air Bender- 36%, After Earth - 42%, The Visit - 59%

So M Night has 2 movies that rate higher (from Critics) than the least rated QT film, which is Death Proof.

And Death Proof beats all the M Night films (from critics) except than Sixth Sense and The Village.

So most people seems to disagree with your agenda.

It's fine that you have that opinion - its just not a popular one. It makes me think that even your real life friends disagree when you have to come post on Okayplayer. (I'd suggest sharing your opinions of Mos Def's catalog here - people here will probably agree with you.)

Hell I didn't even type the names of the Tarantino films and people will know them without Googling.

And yes, QT says and has his characters say the word "Nigger" a lot. Its fine to hate him for it - but again most people don't follow that opinion.

like wes anderson, he replaces real human experience with emotionally detached, stylized horseshit that dares you not to defer to its "cool" factor.

night dogg's films are earnest attempts to connect with the audience and that gets him laughed at a lot...for even making the attempt. people will SWEAR it's the execution...no. they hate that he even makes the attempt.

Nah. People hate the execution. The ONLY reason you're giving him this out is because the execution is usually horrendous. The execution is is bad, bad, bad, bad, bad the vast majority of the the time with M. Knight. Just awful, actually.

And after so many horribly executed, clumsy attempts, yeah.... THEN people hate the attempt itself because he's set such a piss poor track record.

Earnest filmmakers get *killed* nowadays. If your movie takes even the tiniest of missteps, you're gonna get hammered by critics and audiences alike.

Which is, of course, why I love love love the Wachowskis.

We're talking about MKS and The Wachowskis, two entities with a history of massive critical and commercial failures and still, to this day, skate largely on the incredible success of their early work.

Discounting this to the level of earnest filmmakers getting roasted for the "tiniest missteps" is bordering on delusional. I get being a fan but the failures of both MKS and The Wachowskis is on them, not fickle critics and fans. They flat out make movies people genuinely dislike and the list of reasons why is usually pretty long.

I see small mistakes in a movie like Jupiter Ascending, which overall I loved, and Cloud Atlas, another movie I thoroughly enjoyed.

Speed Racer is in my opinion a perfect movie. Shamelessly earnest, bright and colorful, audacious, tremendous action, flawless execution of tone and vision. It was rejected by the public.

The biggest specific complaints I hear about *all* three of these movies is that they are "corny." Corny dialogue, corny story, corny twists in the plot, etc.

I translate corny to mean earnest, because I've never once taken issue with the Wachowskis' brand of "corniness."

To be fair, you don't take issue with much where the Wachowskis are concerned. You see "minor" issues but the movie going masses consistently scream huge issues.

You're translating corny to mean earnest but when people say corny, they mean plain old corny. Corny is the sort of adjective people use when they're not mincing words. The fan in you is seriously clouding your ability and desire to accept criticism of them at face value. I can't recall a single time someone used the word corny as an adjective but REALLY meant something else.

Plus, I mean.... it's kind of telling when your reasoning for translating such criticism to begin with is that YOU never took issue with it.

FOH trying to replay the Last Airbender like Shame-alan didn't royally fuck a great piece of art up in his adaptation.

Nah fam....Uma Thurman whuppin ass is way more progressive than M. Night's theatrical abortion.

How the fuck am I being hypocritical? When the fuck did Tarantino take an original, well articulated concept that was both progressive in its message and respectful of the culture that served as a foundation for its aesthetic and make it whiter than some sea salt in a snow storm?

Edit: Actually, I'll grant that Reservoir Dogs fits that description....but then I'll ask you. Which was the better executed film. Reservoir Dogs or The Last Airbender?

>shiiieet, idris played a black viking. y'all better get out my

No, he played an alien from a comic book based on viking mythology.

Nice try though.

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

Nickelodeon had a show that people of all ages and all walks of life watched as if it was "Real Housewives of Everywhere USA". Anticipation for a live action flick was high as the source material pretty much wrote itself.

Then M Night happened.

First, no people of color unless they're villans. Anyone integral to the story that should have been of color (pretty much the entire cast) wasn't.
Second, action sequences devoid of "action" and special effects that looked like they were done in 1984.
Third, this is what "bending" is in this movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RpgbZcHk_A

We had the technology to make this movie as spectacular as Avatar from an effects point of view. Instead we got "Flash Gordon"-tier effect.

The movie was so terrible it's probably the reason the animated sequel took so long to come out. Nick likely had to let the crushing disappointment that was MNS-Avatar fade before coming back to salvage the once wildly popular show.

They don't want to call for peace then.

And you nailed it. The script was trash. And how do you not write jokes for Sokka? HOW? Just... this is getting my pressure up. I gotta go.

of course both get away with "crap"
one is good...one has shown to be good and has coasted on that good
its not like we are talking about Nolan, Iñárritu,Cauron or people on that level
we are talking about B list directors

you prolly shouldn't engage me in a conversation about filmmaking because i'm not just gonna cop to any of the prevailing narratives about certain filmmakers. mike bay makes big budget action films...cause he's good at it. you think tarantino coulda made bad boys better? how?

you don't have to
prevailing narratives are of no use when two people are having a conversation
as far as filmmaking and telling a compelling and story with depth
Bay chooses not to do that....thats not in itself a bad thing
but it does in my opinion discount talking about him in the upper echelon of film making
I enjoyed some of his movies for pure entertainment value
again nothing wrong with it
but at least Tarintino writes, directs with a purpose and some depth (whether you like that depth is a different story)
some of the shots in both Pulp and Kill Bill Vol 2 are still studied in film making class as classic examples in film making

>mike bay makes
>big budget action films...cause he's good at it. you think
>tarantino coulda made bad boys better? how?

Based upon the Kill Bill movies alone...the answer is objectively yes
would they gross more money...no clue
The Rock is Bays best film and i can watch it over and over again
everything else i can do without
