I tap out in the teens....

>2. how do you dress?

Light as possible. Nike Dri-Fit wool is the bees knees. Up top it'll be 1st layer of a sweat wicking tee, then a wicking smart wool long sleeve on top of that, then a wind blocking hard shell on top of that. thermal beanie for the head, gloves on the hands, compression tights on the bottom.

>3. what's the one thing you wear that's invaluable?

the Dri-Fit gear indeed.

the only saving graces is that I don't think you can get frostbite on the forehead....can you?? I hope not...that wouldn't be a good look at all.

I've used it down to low 30's...so I can't vouch for it beyond that. It replaced my under helmet hood/neck gaiter set up with just one piece. Shawn over in OKS uses one, too.

Bought it this weekend. Used it today. I couldn't breathe. All I really need is a wind breaker for the mouth.

I think I'll double sleeve the head and just pull one down over the mouth.

I could see how this would be good for being outside in general but not something that requires heavy breathing.

Prob around 0
Moisture wicking layers
Proper gloves and a scarf around face/nose to filter cold air

I do not recd running in really cold weather.
The pros will even train inside, less chance of injury from slipping on ice.
The cold air can also be damaging to the lungs.

Edit I read the first question as coldest you'VE run in. I wouldn't go out in much older than freezing, low 30s.

..i have to be comfortable.

as such, i use slim layers that retain heat & protect against the wind. as long as i have this, there's no such thing as "too cold."

there are a few inexpensive brands with solid options for active wear (*old navy, uniqlo, etc).

currently rockin' out with:

• dry fit long sleeve top, layered with cotton shirt
• compression tights, reflective socks
• old navy insulated full-zip jacket
• madgrip active gloves

granted, i'm cycling but the same approach applies.

*old navy currently has 30-50% off on all active wear.

..my bike crew meets on eastern pkwy all the time.

why run when you can ride? less impact (save the knees), less time, more miles.

In response to Reply # 16

..the trouble with doubling up is that you often loose functionality (that area automatically becomes stiffer/tighter, which compromises comfort.

you can still get the desired protection from the elements, without breaking the bank.

it's cheap and effective
i really like their dry fit stuff. it makes such a huge difference. i would get some compression pants but it's not really cold enough for that.

gap has some cute stuff on sale but i still think it's a little pricey.

>1. what's the coldest temps you'll run in?
in the 30's, but I'm in atl, so its never too bad.

>2. how do you dress?

normally shorts, hoodie, tshirt. maybe a headbacd for my ears.
>3. what's the one thing you wear that's invaluable?

my shoes. they're water/crap resistant. so if I hit mud or something, I can just spray them off and they're back to looking normal. not to mention how friggin comfy they are. I need to get another pair, but can't find'em.

Y'all buy those labels, I was born supreme
