I said that about him a few years ago. He's trying to copy the Will Smith path to success via late night interviews. He tries WAY too hard to be funny and charming, but it comes off flat and insincere. Will Smith's charm is effortless and he was movie star in his DNA. Also, Mackie's film choices to me indicates that he craves to be white Hollywood's go to black guy for films.

Besides his dumb quotes, he starred in the first Spike Lee movie I didn't like: She Hate Me.
He represented Black people losing to Eminem in 8 Mile.
He had the audacity to play Tupac.
He's the weakest Avenger - weaker than the guy with the arrow.
He lost to Ant-Man on Ant-Man's first day.
Now I see he's going to play MLK.
But this weekend, he's turned me off Seth Rogen.

I've been lukewarm on dude for years. He comes off as insincere in all his interviews and I am unimpressed with his choice of film roles. He's a decent enough actor, but dude is trying too hard to be white Hollywood's go to Black guy.

I'm saying he's trying to be "White Hollywood's Go to Black Guy". White Hollywood casts him in all these roles as the black friend in their movies with 99% white casts.

And no, I am not a hater. The criticisms I listed in this post are legitimate and enough to not like an actor who tries to get you to like them.

If you watch Friends or some majority white movie, there will be a Black character that gets in the way of the white character. I don't fault those Black working actors cause they gotta get paid & credits. Mackie is the guy that advanced to the next level and doesn't mind taking those roles. Or the buddy role - which isn't to say I don't like the buddy role, it's just that he seems too eager to please without considering anything past being there.
