"Kehlani (from America's Got Talent) vs. Alessia Cara"
Fri Nov-20-15 05:13 PM by TRENDone

Kehlani:
"the way" remix ft. trey songz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k01rB08qgqs
interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfkJuHgoMFM

Alessia Cara:
"here": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKp2CrfmVfw
interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neBNPrkzSmU

both are 19, both have relatively strong voices, both write. both are cute, charming, racially ambiguous but have very different upbringings and personalities. Have you heard of them? Which one do you like better? I pick the girl from Oakland for obvious reasons. I'm pretty sure Cara will be wearing midriffs and doing choreographed dance routines on her third album, i mean look at those hips. Kehlani was a dancer before she did music.

Cara seems to be more on the experimental pop side which I usually slide with but I haven't really delved in her discography. Kehlani's stuff is solid, but doesn't stand out verses lets say Tinache and a bunch of other wanna be r&b pop scarlets.

I still haven't heard much REALLY good music from either, IMO.

"here" is the best song out of all their music combined.

Both are 19 but Kehlani mimicking a rapper's flow on her song is not a good look for a singer. Alessia has a lane and she's gotdamn sticking to it. She's got the geek equivalent of the Taylor Swift lane. Just listened her album and it sounds about right for someone catering to that audience.

Yeah you riding for your town again.Honest question without snark. Do you ride this for G-Eazy? If you're going to ride for your town then at least pick someone we can kinda see where you're coming from.

I was part of a film crew when G-Eazy was doing radio promo at one of the 3 major stations here...and that's all I'm gonna say lol

My main job is working with kids, not promoting....I cringe everytime I hear kids mention him. I don't like ripping ppl on the internet anymore lol

And I LOVE the awkward, geekiness of Cara. It comes off very genuine...and u mention Swift. I appreciated her when she was multi platinum and was covered head to toe...but now she's wearing midriffs & doing dance routines.

I appreciate Kehlani being open abt her conflict with her original management, Nick Cannon putting her on, but I'm like damn, u growing up FAST.

I'm insulted you're not insulting me. All I'm saying is own the victories you're a part of. If you're going to push/raise awareness of your people then do it when they succeed nationally as well. You got shit for Kreayshawn but everyone saw that one coming. Hope all is well in your world and positive vibes your way.

She's growing up entirely too fast as far as music goes. Simmer down and get this teen money. She's got a whole lane wide open and needs to start catering to that market. Growing up too fast has hurt too many artists' careers. Meanwhile Cara over there pandering to that base. The whole lane of socially awkward teens has few representatives and need attention.

Alessia is Italian.. Not racially ambiguous at all...

I think they occupy 2 very different spaces.. Kehlani's competition is tinashe... Alessia was formed in the mold of Lorde

I love that they are both writing their own shit though.. Max martin cant provide everyone's life forever

I think they are all hovering in the same cloud of a core audience with mediocre material. Whoever steps it up will have the best chance, im not quite convinced any of them will actually get better than they are tho. They could do but im not betting big money on any of them doing it. I feel like Alessia's is so new (she only started writing for this project) that she hasnt really found the type of artist she wants to b,e sonically, she more aware of the type of artist she wants to be as far as messages and her stance on certain subjects.

Yeah its a small sample....but I dont think Khelani's project is that good the way people say it is. That project is poorly produced and has mediocre pop songs.

Alessia's project sounds nothing like Here. That song is and that project dont even go together. That project is all over the place. I'm glad someone from y city is getting that kind of spotlight but her project isnt good.

To be honest

No one is good cuz no one knows how to be.... Beyonce & Rihanna grew up on much better pop icons and understand what an actual hit is much better...

Most the youngins are chasing some shit that is "ok" but not "excellent"

Which is why Rih & Bey stay at the top

I know XO is holding on to that song "In The Night" they could even push "Dark Times" as a single and they would do really well. I think they are gonna push that single and if it does well it will be fresh in everyones mind and could swing the vote. Taylor might have something like that up her sleeve too.

It's an absolute given if you are nominated for album of the year that you're winning your genre's award as well.

I can't remember a time that didn't happen. I'm not going to pull up all the evidence but go back to Kast in 04. Album of the Year and Rap Album of the Year.

Everyone of those Album of the Year nominations will win their individual genre awards unless more than one album from a genre is nominated but they usually don't do that.

It's one thing they do that makes sense. It would make no sense for an album to be nominated for Album of the Year and lose in its own genre.
