"you accept a new position and the current gig comes with the counter-off..."
and it's WAY more (not just in salary) than you ever expected. But you already accepted the other gig, hi-fived your new department (via email), scheduled your orientation, etc....
would flip flopping back to the current gig be poor form? have you ever done this only to realize you shoulda dipped while you had the chance?
basically, i got a nice new gig lined up and i wasnt even planning on entertaining a counter-offer. I wasnt trying to leverage the new gig into a better current situation, yet here i am.
i've got the weekend to think it over. i feel like Deandre Jordan out here.
Anybody got any advice? My homies are gonna tell me take whoever is coming w/ more loot, regardless of burning bridges, work environment, etc.

do you like your current job?
if you accepted the counter will you be over that shit once you come back thru those same doors?
you are in a good position right now.

not necessarily. but it would be step in the right direction towards my dream gig
>do you like your current job? i do. been here since i was 21 tho. getting antsy.
>if you accepted the counter will you be over that shit once >you come back thru those same doors? tough to say. the counter includes a bit of intangible type stuff that (if they keep their word) could change my environment significantly.
>you are in a good position right now. feels like hell. lol

move toward your dream.

trust your instincts. it's time to go.

if they respect you that much, and the new job doesn't work out, your old place is obviously something you could come back to (maybe even with some new skills?) if you needed to. It wouldn't work the other way around..meaning if you decided to stay where you are, then a year from now, feel like moving on again, this "new" spot won't take you cuz you burned them.
you also get to show-off your integrity to both sides by making sure folks know that your personal code prevents you from going back on your word once you've given it to someone.

they say you should never accept a counter offer you had to leverage a competing offer to get at the same time they say if you want a raise you need to have a completing offer as leverage so iono seem like one of those things you need to play by ear depending on the situation
if the counter offer blew you away then stay and Always Be Looking

I'm the type who hates going back on his word. But this does make me wonder about a lot of interviews I had while I was working....seems like they were VERY suspicious that my main concern at my current job was because of my schedule. Some even asked blatantly, "so if they changed your schedule, would you stay? If not, why wouldn't you?" And I never got any offers from jobs who asked me that. But maybe this is why.

old job wants you to stay. see if they're willing to move up on the money and/or the other perks the old gig is now offering. it doesn't have to match, but you want them to at least move upwards on what they've offered.
