"Just finished watching The Royal Tenenbaums for the first time"

Just finished watching The Royal Tenenbaums for the first time. Well, I had it 15 years ago but wasnt paying attention and turned it off. Anyways..Anderson appears to be a BIG fan of John Irving novels, especially Garp and Hotel New Hampshire. I'm not mad at him though.

Everything was like these autumn colors and you couldn't really tell when the film was set, kinda timeless. But I was bored watching it.

He's the only filmmaker that I plan to own his complete filmography. Except for the Darjeeling Limited. I'm good on that.

Had a unique pace to it, I loved the way the story unfolded, and it was also a very honest depiction of kids that age. I think a film that shows kids in an honest way is very rare. They are always either some sort of super kids who are like tiny genuis adults or pared down to morons for the sake of cuteness. Just a pleasant (but far from saccharine) film.

was that the adults in the film were even LESS sure about what they wanted from an emotional standpoint than the kids.

The kids were doing their dumb shit, but with a sense of purpose, while the adults were flailing. Reminded me of a lot of the Taoist reading I was doing in college.

Wes the only white boy who gets a pass from me for the blatant 1954 whiteness of his worlds

other than that, few people make films as good as he does

My heart wears a red cap and blue overalls but I get why it's either divisive or disappointing depending on who you talk to.
