book and will be all upset or resigned about the harsh stuff that he or she knows (due to reading the whole book) is about to come up at various later points as life unfolds.

Then depending on how that went, I'd make a choice to either read it or not.

I read the last sentence first.

When I get to where I am now I read exactly one more page, and then immediately give the book to a friend, and tell them not to give it back to me.
