This is the most diverse concert crowd I have ever seen and I've attended a LOT of concerts. I mean their are old grandmas and grey ones here. I'm not sure if it's because it's held at at his Palm Springs area casino or if The Roots being on Jimmy Fallon has endeared them to a ... Mainstream audience. It's awesome and a psychologists/sociologists wet dream

Roots put on a great damn show ... Boy have I missed out

A shirt yet concise set... Maybe less than 90 minutes. No famed guests but there's this one guy that plays this drum pad sequencer who was given a shirt set and battle with 2uest. Pardon me if he is prt if the crew lately, I'm out of the loop. I was told by staff that the show was barely advertised.... The venue was half empty and I expected that being in Ranching fuckin Miragr of all places hahah.. So maybe that's why they had a shirt but energetic as hell set. Amazing show imo

In the Fallon era I have seen them twice (maybe three times, I forget if they were starting out at the last Picnic I went to) and their act has definitely changed. They've got that kind of house band feel now, keeping the show moving and being polished entertainers. I don't say that in a negative or positive way, because the show is still great, but it's not the same energy they had when they were on the road 300+ days a year. It's cool to see the contrast but I do feel sorry for people who didn't get to see them both ways. I do think their act has missed Rahzel and/or Scratch, the human DJ was sort of an essential component of the whole organic hip-hop thing, at least for me.
But overall it's remarkable the level of energy, creativity and showmanship they can still bring after 20-25 years. I still think they are one of the best live acts out there and one point, to me, they were probably *the* best. Glad you got out to see them and that the crowd was kind of a little sideshow, too.

I was hired to shoot the SF show last Wednesday, and I agree with you. It was pretty cool seeing such a diverse crowd, young and old. Oh, the guy on the two drum machines is Jeremy Ellis. He's legit badass.

as far as age, well they have been putting out music for the last 20+ years, so some of us are getting old(er). not sure about gray hair yet though. LOL

I saw them like 5 times in the couple years leading up to Fallon and it was always incredible. Now I don't live on either coast so chances of seeing a rare show now are thin. I haven't seen a better show from anyone.

it was the first one I didn't make it to. I saw some people on here saying it wasn't that great at the time. that whole love of my life part? great stuff. they are never not good live, and once in a while you see a really special show. obviously they don't do as many dates anymore, so maybe you are more likely to get that special show. different nowadays for sure, but still great imo.
