"why are there no top 10's on wshh/youtube?"
Sat Oct-17-15 03:19 PM by Busta Rhymes

do you remember back in the day when the top 10 on your local radio station/bet/mtv/etc. would be more important than whatever was top 10 on billboard?

wtf happened?

buzzfeed and complex literally make millions of dollars every month finding new insipid things to 'rank' and yet youtube, the quote-unquote, 'new mtv' doesn't have their own weekly 'ranked' music list?

even more suspect to me is wshh.

why is there not a weekly wshh top 10 on their homepage?

what's worse than all of this is that i made this same post 4 years ago and it still hasn't happened.

talk about leaving money on the table.

'lists' on their homepage would completely take youtube into another stratosphere.

People that view youtube KNOW what
they wanna watch/listen-to. They don't need
some subjective "top ten" nonsense to hold their
hands.

if top 10s are an antiquated concept than why is 90% of buzzfeed and complex's original content top 10s?

why are youtube users who rank top x of various trivia amongst some of the highest subscribed to and viewed?

the contrary evidence is completely against you.

imo, people have an innate mental need for order, outside of billboard (a list), the present state of music on the internet is utter chaos flimsily held together by shitty message board posters turned music critics, clickfarms, and social media sharing.

just typed 'cus the shit aint that complicated.

humans using youtube as a music service has always been bass ackwards to me.

though to your credit, i turned my back on youtube for music a long time, when the compression was typically much heavier.

It's probably the best resource for DORF music (Dead, Old, Retro, Foreign), which is the main type of music I listen to now. As time goes on, more and more of that kind of stuff gets uploaded.

I'm over downloading. Too much work to do it and then organize.

i'd also argue it makes makes more sense to organize and curate your music than it does to fumble around with browser tabs and resource-hungry web pages and ads, and questionable quality and it not being available to you if your internet is down.

that I thought I might possibly like. I would have my computer running nonstop for weeks downloading stuff off of Soulseek. Doing that effectively killed that computer in 2010. After that I was computerless for about 10 months. Once I got a new one, I realized I didn't have the energy, nor the desire to go through the kind of process again. Curating the world's most awesome digital music library is something I'm no longer interested in. If the access goes away it's ok because I haven't spent a penny on hardly any of it anyway, and that'll also probably mean World War 3 is upon us anyway.

there's no reason you should burn out a computer doing straight-forward media management.

is there anybody out there in podcast land doing a contemporary casey kasem format besides tools like ryan seacrest?

you would think with the abundance of podcasts out there dying for conversation fodder to fill airtime, they could splice in some songs too.

shit, you could fuck around and end up getting nationally syndicated or something.
