right after a bunch of marines had gang raped an okinawan girl, the whole island was in an uproar we couldnt even get off the base

they quietly shipped ALL the black marines back to the states, and scattered us all over the place, mad dudes spent 3 yrs in 29 palms because of that

does it really matter?

were that the case, but perhaps the military handles things in a different racist fashion. Bin would know for sure, but that seems like that was the case given the actions taken.

And he was the guy who claimed he was just along for the ride, like he basically scared of the guy who organized and that he only "pretended" to rape the child. Years later, after he got out of jail, he raped some college student he knew, killed her and then killed himself. Seriously fuck all those guys, man, I have less than zero sympathy. They also whined a lot about the conditions in Japanese prison, if they were in U.S. jail (or somewhere worse) they would have been treated a lot worse and rightfully so.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

More regimented and far fewer western comforts from my understanding . The difference would be in how fellow inmates treated them -- in which case US prison may be worse and just as well deserved of course.

Their complaints were about the labor they had to do, building electronics and shit. Not saying that it wasn't a bad situation but better than getting Jeff Dahmer'ed, no?

knew people over there, I didn't realized they shipped black marines out, I know shit got locked WAY the fuck down and some of the fun we had over there prior would never be had again.

I remember the commander over there got relieved for saying they were "stupid because for the amount of money they paid to rent the van they raped the girl in they could've bought a prostitute."

He shouldn't have said that publicly but he was right.

Iraq, Nov 07 - Jan 09--served in central Baghdad as a Platoon Leader in a Cavalry Troop for most of the tour before I was advanced up to XO before I came home. saw combat.

only media of me and my guys i can find from around that time:
http://uk.reuters.com/article/2008/04/21/iraq-security-surge-idUKNOA12865120080421

http://images2.sina.com/english/world/p/1/2008/0417/2a7e87043a340cfec92d524b47ee7d7e.jpg

Afghanistan, Oct 10 - Oct 11--sat on a FOB the whole tour synchronizing and coordinating special operations forces assets in my unit's area, leveraging those asset to try to meet my commander's campaign objectives; didn't see combat per se (counted around 70+ rocket / mortar attacks across a year), but had some close calls

in Iraq, i was i was the only black officer in my squadron (450 soldiers), and one of the few black soldiers in my troop (me, my medic, and an E-6 in a sister platoon, to be exact). i once had to clap back and demote an NCO for being short with me mid-mission, but we were cool over the rest of the tour and afterwards.

a cavalry platoon is typically divided into two sections, A and B. each section is led by an E-6. Section A includes your senior E-6 (senior scout, which is what this guy was), plus your platoon leader, and their associated crews.

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/policy/army/fm/17-98/fig1-6.gif

pretend we're talking about just 4 trucks, instead of 10.

Section B includes your junior E-6 and your platoon sergeant. PL fights the platoon. E-6s fight the sections. PSG handles CASEVAC/MEDEVAC. in movement, vehicle order is typically Sec. A leader, PL, Sec. B leader, PSG. so by making him Sec. B leader, he no longer had any decision making authority on route planning or point security. it's a status thing more than anything.

the real hit came from the performance eval., since almost 7 years later he's still an E-6. at least 3 of my E-5s from that tour are now E-7s.

I just gage him a middling review. NCOs get an eval every year. If he couldn't make up for that one review then it probably says more about him and his character than the Annual PR I gave him one of those years.

active duty in the Marine Corps almost 20 years ago promotions were so highly competitive that just one "average" review could send you to the back of the line and hold your promotion up for years if you got it at all.

Summer 1992-Fall 2000

I saw people deploy for random stuff like Bosnia, Guantanamo refugee camps and hurricane relief but there were no major deployments during that time.

Things didn't seem as crazy during the first gulf war but after 9/11 there was an endless rotation and very few were able to avoid deployments.

I worked the towers. Closest to combat for me were situations where a few of us nearly got hit with a stray bullet while walking on the compound, the time an IED was dropped in a blind spot and a humvee hit it, a mortor hit not too far from where our bay was, and other various explosions that were too close for comfort, such as the time a suicide bomber tried to take out the tower closest to the wall. Said tower was the next tower over from the tower I was in. But regarding having to fire my weapon, I didn't get the chance. I was just in positions where I had to prepare to lock and load.

Sat behind a desk from 1990 - 1998. Adding machines, pens, paper, dot matrix printers, and all that other Office Depot stuff.

I briefed many airmen on there deployments and return. Them folks needed to know how that money was gonna be spent while they were gone.

In response to Reply # 0

nobody fucks with carriers, but we did have a few close calls with Iranians fronting:

P-3's (that we sold them when we were homies in the 70's) flew over snappin flicks, we'd send a helo up and they bounce

a couple of IRGC speed boats getting as close as they could before MA's blast they ass out the water, then quickly speeding away

I worked night check, and one night I'm in the cockpit of one of our birds installing a gyro, and all of a sudden the missile warning lights come on. I had a real "oh shit I'm dead" moment, call my LPO over and he says don't worry, it's just Iran painting you with radar, keep working.
