I'm thinking I should get one, just don't want telemarketers calling or my son to have another way to call people. May just get one and not plug it I until I need it.
Music is almost everything.

mostly as a back up and for emergency situations. 911 can still hone in on a landline better than a cellphone.

I have fiber internet through my local phone company and when I added phone service to it they just told me to plug in a phone on the fiber converter box.

However...

This past Monday I woke up to a power outage. The fiber converter requires power and I don't have a UPS yet so we had to use our cellphones to make calls. Thankfully my hotspot was charged so we also had internet connectivity, but batteries run out and had that happened before the electric company had fixed the downed wire we would be fucked.

I made the decision to order a 2-wire line next month. That way we still have phone in the event of a power outage.

They don't want to call for peace then.

but w/ the new digital shit man, I dunno how long anyone an be sure they'll still have phone svc in an outage.

I kept my landline at my apartment for years, just because of that big outage in 03 when power was out in the midwest for a few days, and only landline phones were reliably working.

All cellphones were out, fiber was out, only 2-wire worked and there weren't that many people with it. The stupid shit was ATT and Verizon decided to phase out copper right after it had proven its resilience in Sandy.

New technology may have advantages, but one of its disadvantages is that it tends to be too fragile.

We have ours only for that reason

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

AT&T's service is $20 a month. You're better off buying a Skype subscription and a phone number for $60.

I have a landline phone but prefer radio for emergencies.
