"tactics you use to wake up early in the morning"

and actually get out of bed when the alarm clock goes

early meaning 2-3+ hours before you actually have to leave to go to work

don't suggest having children either

the most annoying alerts (one sounds like busta rhymes saying 'get up muthabustaaaa).

I put one on HER side of the bed and the other in the bathroom.

every 5-10 minutes one of them is going off, snooze button be damned.

or get a cat. My boy says his cat starts licking his face when the alarm goes off.

im up at 730am no matter what. every single day.
if i fucked it up last night and poured it on thick I will still get up at 730 automatically and just go back to sleep. my alarm goes off everyday at 730am.

for sleep I try to limit it to 12 every night but some nights I might go down at 11am or even 2am(and thats really pushing it...but I went to bed last night at 2am and got up at 730 and still felt like a champ)

no particular order

i use the sleep cycle app to wake me up in the lightest sleep phase
http://www.sleepcycle.com/

i create a morning ritual of short wins that build momentum
these small tasks also become triggers

you should check out the book "miracle morning" by hal elrod
http://www.amazon.com/The-Miracle-Morning-Not-So-Obvious-Guaranteed/dp/0979019710

and the 5am miracle podcast by jeff sanders
https://www.jeffsanders.com/the-5-am-miracle-podcast/

make it easy to get to each of the items in your ritual
for instance one of mine is to drink a glass of water when i wake up so i put the water on my desk the night before

wash your face with cold water as soon as you get up...which makes you actually get out of the bed

the biggest thing for me is to have clear tasks outlined beforehand and not just getting up early without a plan....
i find that the days that i don't have a plan outlined are the days that i hit snooze more often
early mornings are great for side projects

edit: oh and going to sleep properly the night before is huge. if you can have a consistent bedtime that will help tremendously. if you can't do that...try to set a time in which you stop using any electronics. if you do have to use a laptop late at night make sure you have flux installed https://justgetflux.com/

the key to happiness is not being rich;
it's doing something arduous and
creating something of value and then
being able to reflect on the fruits of your labor

i do them in bed
but when i know my back is acting up its becomes imperative

are these small tasks that were left over from the day before? or tasks that you actually designed "turn on" certain gears in your daily routine?

> or tasks that you actually designed "turn on" certain gears
>in your daily routine?

this.
they are not typically work related but build the momentum.
i like the philosophy of "eating my frog" so my first work related task is usually my biggest, most important task, the one I am most likely to procrastinate on if I don't do something about it.
so the little wins before that provide the momentum to tackle it.

here are some of my little wins that have been apart of my morning routine at different times .....

- read my wall of affirmations (i have a bunch of artwork with sayings on my walls)
- drink a glass of water (i call it my inner bath)
- read 10 pages minimum of a book
- 15 minute duolingo language exercise
- 7 minute workout
- write 5 things I am grateful for
- walk 35 minutes at the park
- eat fruit
- listen to inspirational podcast for 20 minutes
- meditate for 10 minutes
- make pour over coffee (and be present while making it)

the key to happiness is not being rich;
it's doing something arduous and
creating something of value and then
being able to reflect on the fruits of your labor

If I have to be up at 7:15 I set the alarm for 7 so that I can take 15 minutes to get up.

Also when I wake up I throw on some music I love that can help get me hype.

Then the first thing I do is take a shot of something with caffeine it in like ice tea.

I have to get up to turn it off.
I'm up 4.5 hours bf work to work out going on 3 years now. I just do it.
If I don't get up that early there is no time to get it done.
I make breakfast for 3 and prep my espresso for the night before.

I hit the gym before work, so I'm up and out before the wife and kid wake up. It's pretty much accepted that my wife gets our son up and out; breakfast, packs his lunch, makes sure he doesn't slow poke getting ready...etc., but if I'm still at home when they wake up, I feel obligated to pitch in during the morning routine.

Before I come off sounding like an awful husband... I handle the afternoons. I pick him up from school, take him to his extracurricular stuff and throw dinner down his neck. By then, my wife is home and we tag team.

So, I allow myself one cycle of the snooze button and then I'm gone.

Also... Each night plan your morning for 5 minutes before you go to bed.

Have a large glass of water by your bedside to drink when you wake up. Will make you have to pee within 10 minutes

trick #0: use this as an alarm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qh2-AXgfUoc

I'm usually fully awake before 6am and I get to the office by 8:30-9am

Drink a lot of water before going to bed. Not a crazy amount but enough to make you have to get up and pee in the morning. You may have to experiment with the amounts.

Do something mentally stimulating right when you wake up. I like Duolingo for learning languages, it's got a good mobile app so maybe some language exercises would be a good thing to try. Plus you can do them while still in bed. I'm a math nerd, so some math problems help me out. Once my mind is awake I can never roll back over and sleep.

Before I go to bed, I often write out all the tasks I have on my plate for the next day. I find that it helps me not think about the next day and focus on getting sleep. Not sure if it helps wake up easier but definitely helps me sleep easier.

Then you have to get up to turn it off, which is the hardest part. After I'm up I don't really feel like going back to sleep. If I just leave my alarm on the bedside though it's really hard to actually get out of bed still.

drink big ass glass of water before bed

My hunger and urgency to hit the can keeps me out the bed.

Multiple staggered alarms

All that wakes up my dogs who are ready for their walk so they won't go potty inside

41. "staggered alarms on my phone PLUS an alarm clock with blue lights"
In response to Reply # 0

The alarm clock is especially crucial 'cause I aim it towards my head. We have blackout curtains in my bedroom so it stays pretty dark in there, even when the sun is bright as fuck at 5am in the summer.

The first three alarms come from my phone which I might snooze or kill all together. The final alarm comes from the clock with the unnaturally bright blue light. Those blue lights can make it impossible to stay asleep once it hits your eyes through your lids.

Jazz is a very mathematically sophisticated music. Accordingly, listening to it's sophisticated harmonies/rhythms gets my brain's gears turning.

In response to Reply # 0

you can set different types of math problems to solve when the alarm goes off in order to turn it off.

different types of math and different levels of difficulty.

it WILL work but it will also piss you off. It will work though.

you might end up throwing your phone but you'll be awake.
