"I just realized something about Rocky 3"

Rocky loses to Clubber Lang because he fought without heart. Rocky went in the ring without his heart. Mickey was his heart. He had a heart attack before the fight and didnt corner Rocky. Damn dont know how I missed that one for all these years.

but Clubber was too hungry. Rocky was training in ballrooms and worrying about how his hair looked while Clubber was training in abandoned buildings and shit. Mick wouldn't have been able to help him. He needed Apollo to help him get that fire back.

in the ring before the rematch are better than the Aye Woman's to me. I wonder if Mr. T was allowed to adlib at all for that role. I wish I could have seen that movie in a theater rather than sit and watch it at home on Netflix. I sure the laughs I had would have felt ten times better in a theater.

because when I would turn the channel back in the pre-cable broadcast TV days and see portions of the movie when he's boxing, the over the top nature of the boxing turned me off. Because of this post and how funny Mr. T seems to be, I'll give this movie a chance when I get home tonight. Which of the other Rocky flicks hold up? Keep in mind what I said about the actual boxing not being my cup of tea.

Mr. T was the highlight because of the unintentional comedy he provided. I will give the others that are on Netflix a shot because of the reverence I've seen people give the flicks in the past. I do have to give Stallone props for getting in crazy good shape from what I saw in Rocky III. As silly as the boxing was, dude was dedicated to at least looking good on camera, in addition to writing and directing the films.

the fight choreography in all the movies is downright terrible.

like, you could legitimately consider the first Rocky movie one of the greatest ever...UNTIL the final fight. i mean, why does Rocky not even lift his hands...once?!? even my wife was like "wtf is he DOING?!?" it looks so ridiculous...just two dudes throwing haymakers left and right, just wailing on each other's heads with zero effort to cover up.

the first one's definitely worth watching, though. all the performances are so natural and appealing. and everything Mick says is gold.

in the rematch in Rocky III, Rocky was blocking some of the haymakers Lang was throwing at him. I guess he was trying to play rope-a-dope to tire out Lang. He was blindly getting hit by some of the shots which was just plain stupid to me, but he was at least holding his hands up in the rematch.

The insane thing about the matches between Lang and Rocky is that Lang was 30 pounds heavier than Rocky. 30. Pounds. Heavier. That is beyond insane. Rocky would be dead ten times over if that movie was rooted in any sense of reality.

I'll give the other movies a look over since I've heard people revere them in the past.

In response to Reply # 38

...apiece. It didn't even look physically possible to take some of those punches without being KO'd, and they went like 12 rounds.

Hey, Woman. Hey, Woman! Listen here. Since your old man ain't got no heart, maybe you like to see a real man. I bet you stay up late every night dreamin' you had a real man, don't ya? I'll tell you what. Bring your pretty little self over to my apartment tonight, and I'll show you a real man.

You take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.

In response to Reply # 0

A movie that'd be 95% training (half montage/half struggle) and 5% boxing in the ring.

Clubber Lang's has always been the one character in the Rocky universe that I wanted to see fleshed out. Imagine showing the assembly of that Juggernaut-like mindset built only to destroy whoever was wearing the title. And then you could add on the racial overtones of that....epic.

you win a few fights and get rich and all you have to do is put on a suit...

didn't he go broke in Rocky 5?

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*
