If anyone thinks this is a guy trying to be a legitimate rap or pop/rap star, the same way Macklemore and Iggy Azalea are... well, I have no explanation for how an opinion like that would be formed if that person had ever listened to any of this dude's music.
I could accuse him of occasionally being unfunny. Maybe more than occasionally-- I'd be fine with that critique. And maybe some people making this argument have a problem with any white comic doing rap. Maybe those people also think Andy Samberg and Weird Al are doing the same thing. If they're consistent with their argument, I respect that.
But anyone calling him "a white rapper" without mentioning that he's a full-blown comedy act is being willfully ignorant at best or disingenuous at worst.

That's what I said.
He is a rapper. A rapper who does comedic rap. Which means saying that he aspires to the same type of music that Macklemore and Iggy make is... well, read the sentence I re-posted for your benefit.
He actually raps really well. But his album is primarily comedy. Which must be mentioned when discussing what he's doing.

I don't really care about him one way or the other. And I totally get people making those arguments against Macklemore and Iggy.
But it seems very apparent to nearly *all* people that Lil Dicky, from his name to his songs to his image, has his career rooted in comedy. Even if it's not Weird Al level, that's what it is. Hard to argue otherwise.
Just because he says "I want to be the best" and he's got some quality lyrics/flow doesn't change the fact that his song concepts and name and image and lyrical content and videos are *all comedic.*
Now, if you're making this same argument against Lonely Island, a white comedy group that also tries to make legitimately good rap songs that also happen to be comedic? Then cool. I respect your consistency. But if you're trying to make the argument that Lil Dicky is the same type of white rapper as Macklemore and Iggy? And you don't mention that he's absolutely rooted in comedy?
