I see this a lot with the little old ladies in my neighborhood...they prefer to cut the grass themselves and they maintain the yards, but they have capable husbands/sons/grandsons.

weeding and basically doing everything.
her husband worked (occasionally) at our job and every time i saw him i wanted to punch him in his fucking face.
he was barely working and they had had to move into her parents basement in their 40s.
she was 40 looking 60-65, like she was his mom. she had gone through premature menopause probably from the stress.
on a brighter note, some women just like it. i met a couple at trivia like that. guy had a pretty blonde wife 40ish that said she enjoyed mowing the lawn.
