The pig roast Aug. 2 to raise money for the legal defense of Lisa Mearkle, the Hummelstown police officer charged with homicide, could attract as many as 300 to 400 people, organizers said.

This is not the only white person killed by cops for no reason and I'm trying to come to some kind of conclusion as to why it's being portrayed as a primarily black issue and to such an extent that it's coming across as if whites don't have this happen within their communities regularly.
Is it because if whites are aware of the totality of it things may change for real?
Is it simply to keep division going?
Money in the form of ratings although I'm sure round the clock coverage of this would make just as much (or would it if the victim is poor and white?)
All of the above?
It's unsettling to say the least.

Similar to the largely disproportionate number of imprisoned Black people vs. white people, Black people are killed by Law Enforcement at a much greater rate statistically. Though more whites may have died this year, data from 03-09 shows, per million, .9 whites vs. 3.6 Blacks die at the hands of the law.

Even if the numbers are smaller it shouldn't be looked over in favor of whatever criteria is used to determine what should be reported 24/7 IMO. That and what's the issue? Perpetual systemic racism, police misconduct, or both?
If police misconduct is part of the equation then I can't help but feel it should all be given similar media treatment an in the end I think the way these stories are portrayed further galvanizes the whole us vs them thing i.e. business as usual.

On one hand, this is an issue that affects black people disproportionately and very much so. On the other, it is a problem that goes beyond that and the publicizing of that could get more people on board.
The mentally ill are probably the most at risk (with race then being another aggravating or mitigating factor) but no one will get on board with that.
The thing that I think will really make the whole movement explode is when we stop focusing simply on deaths. But then "little" mistreatments are tough to identify and rail against. So it will be a middle ground type of thing between getting roughed up and being killed, and that's being sexually harassed, molested, abused, etc. That shit goes on ALL THE TIME. When women start coming forward in huge numbers people will finally see that the power dynamic between police and citizens is 100% fucked.
And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
Hunt for Justice, a nonprofit organization that provides support to law enforcement personnel in legal defense, says "Come out and pig out," on the event's flyer. The pig roast is described as "family friendly," and those attending are encouraged to "bring the kids."
The social media comments aren't all negative, with a few posting messages of support on Chick's Facebook page.
"FINALLY, an organization recognizing police officers instead of bashing them! Thank you Chicks, for supporting officer Mearkle!" wrote Melissa O'Brien.
Hunt for Justice's web site says it raises money for law enforcement officers "who have experienced hardships as a result of on-duty related incidents."
Mearkle is listed as a client/cause of Hunt for Justice, along with Darren Wilson, the Ferguson, Mo. officer involved in the 2014 shooting death of Michael Brown. The organization's first client was Chris Hunt, a deputy sheriff in St. Charles, Missouri, who was later exonerated of burglary charges in connection with a 2009 meth lab arrest. Hunt is now a director of the organization.

Look how swiftly White outrage, against Black justice, routinely rallies behind their offenders, versus how they react normally.
Tensing, was immediately offered overwhelming financial assistance after what he did, while the video evidence of his crime is clearly reprehensible.
Completely different from what happened in Mearkle's situation. Not only is justice, on behalf of her victim, dispatched quickly--with minimal public outrage...there is no angry white mass of support to say she is being unfairly prosecuted/persecuted. All she has is this silly struggle fundraiser where the organizer's estimate raising $3000, towards her six figure legal defense costs.
