"Re: Goodfellas | Do you think Paulie slept with Karyn?"
I remember watching Goodfellas one night and there's a scene deep in the film where the body language between Paulie and Karyn made me wonder if they ever slept together. I think this is around the time that Henry is known to be stepping out on the marriage.
Am I crazy?
I swear I can watch that movie over and over again and it's just greatness every time.

you're right that he wasn't made but he was basically in w/the family. unless/until he did something stupid like Tommy.
still, i don't see him banging Karyn b/c i think it would violate his personal code and there was no moment in the movie that gave me the impression he did.

He just seemed a little too confident in his delivery. Then again Karen was one of those obsessives, waking him up with guns and blowing up the goomah's spot.

It supposedly went down while Henry was in prison.
Also, the "real" Tommy DeSimone (the Tommy in the movie is an amalgam of a few people) once tried to rape Karen. It was one of the reason that Paulie allowed Tommy to be killed. The story goes that Paulie told the Gambino family that Tommy had killed Billy Bats and another guy in the crew, which lead to Gotti killing DeSimone.
As far as the film goes, I can't call it. It was certainly ambiguus.

Telling her to go and get those dresses. SMH. That was a CRAZY scene. They never show you enough to make it clear that she was in danger but the element was certainly in the air.

From a storytelling/dramatic perspective, it would fuck up the effectiveness of the story.
For one, Henry's own infidelity is what sets up him going to prison. Particularly Karen flipping out over it. The scene where she and the kids visit him in prison and her whylin' out because she sees his mistress has visited him would be pointless if she was fucking Paulie at the time.
Second, it would dilute the power of Henry's "betrayal" of Paulie at the end. Him flipping on Jimmy makes sense; the guy was going to kill him. But we're supposed to be feel bad that he has to rat out Paulie, the guy who was his father figure and was trying to look out for him the entire time. If he's fucking Henry's wife on the low, then that dynamic completely changes.

a common misconception with scorcese's movies is people hear adlibbed and they assume that they guys made everything up in the shoot but they did most of the adlibs in rehearsal and at table reads, then kept it

"Although Vario reputedly treated Henry Hill like a son, he did had an affair with his wife Karen during the late 1970's. At one point Tommy DeSimone tried to rape Karen. Vario was furious and took measures. He went to see members of the Gambino Family and revealed to them that DeSimone was responsible for the murder of 2 of their men, one being William Devino, a made member. DeSimone was protected throughout the years, but now it came to an end. In 1979 DeSimone was lured to a house with the false pretense of finally being made inside the Lucchese Family, but instead he was shot through the head by Tommy Agro, a Gambino member."
