"NBA Talk in GD: DeAndre Jordan vs. Mark Cuban"
Thu Jul-09-15 08:19 PM by Starks dunked on Bul

Jordan left Mark Cuban to go to Clippers without any notice so I lost all respect for him. I've had employees leave me cold like that, so I know it hurts. But Cuban is a billionaire NBA owner who defended Donald Sterling. It's silly to empathize over Cuban getting screwed in a business deal. What's your take?

And Lebron leaving the Cavs is FAR worse because he left Cleveland and the fans behind and made a live TV special to display it all. Jordan only left Cuban behind.

After the deal is made on television, the Sharks perform due diligence on the companies and their finances. By the rules of the show, they have the right to pull the deal. There are times where the businesses have stuff going on that is not revealed during the taping and the Sharks pull out.

The reality is that many verbal agreements are in fact binding and enforceable. In this instance I do not believe that the Mavericks would have a case in court but I don't feel qualified to speak to that with certainty. I do, however, feel entirely confident saying that what Jordan and his representation did was in violation of the standard code of conduct for players and their agents in this setting, not only in the NBA but all North American professional sports.

I am stunned DJ's agent let him pull this shit, very bad for business. I have talked to most of the big-name agents in the NHL and some in the NFL and NBA. i can't think of one that would have flambeed his own reputation this way for a client. Even the guys who are known for hardball and holdouts, e.g. Don Meehan, would rather stretch things out than make a hasty call and then go back on it. Maybe Jordan left his agent with no choice--and personally I am thrilled he is coming back to L.A.--but I really think this is, for a lack of a better term, a bitch move within the context of pro sports.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Fegan wasn't involved in it. I believe, if I read correctly, that the co-agent was allowed in once he was ready to sign them papers to stay with the Clips.

Legally, he's fine IMO.
Ethically, wasn't good business.
As a man, DJ should have handled that way better though there was no obligation to do so.

They could have given him his money. On the opposit side of the spectrum, they are giving Wes that $70m after tearing his Achilles last season.

So, Cuban ain't no saint and has to eat turds this go round.

These players have to make sure they take care of their futures. Capitalists want to put so much value on money, then want to place values over money when it suits them.

Just IMO though.

once Jordan verbally committed, Mavs stopped looking for a center.

Had Jordan turned them down right away, they could have went after other free agent centers.

Jordan left them stuck.

Nothing Cuban can do though.

Dont know how you can make someone honor a verbal agreement legally.

The Sharks don't see the deals until the people show up. They don't review stuff ahead of time. If there is some misrepresentation, of course they reserve the right to pull the plug.

I understand Cuban has done this and perhaps you will tell me about some times where he has been shady about it. Quite possibly true. Does not make me feel all that resentful toward him in theory though.

Furthermore there was one incident where he made the unusual move of buying a company outright. It was like two sisters who had a sticker company that was flailing wildly for the upcoming fiscal year and Cuban offered them 200K. Later, they backed out of the deal and rather than being an asshole he got them some corporate advisers to help them right the ship.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

My issue is that he's a grown black man being holed up in his house by other black men and a really rich white guy bc maybe if he hears another man's voice he might change his mind again.

That's embarrassing and makes him look like a huge 5 yr old.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

ETHICS OF DEALMAKING--I need to have so thoroughly briefed a client as to the pros and cons of alternate situations, and he needs to be so clear and certain prior to a commitment that there is no turning back. Don't commit until absolutely clear decision.Sports has unwritten code that an oral agreement is an agreement. If I break my word on behalf of client to a team it destroys credibility forever. We announce deals prior to signing with understanding that what will be executed on paper is exactly what we agreed to. Unlike other businesses.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

i mean, personally i wanted DJ back and i say fuck all things texas, but why is everyone else so like "WELL WTF HE WASNT EVEN REALLY A MAVERICK, JESUS STFU ALREADY?" Makes no sense to me. He totally pulled the rug from under them in a fashion that seems unprecedented. I mean LeBron at least left shit up in the air and no one really cared where Frank Gore signed (plus he didn't give a firm commit, I don't believe).

when he won his ring two or three years ago, but I agree with you. Players have very finite careers and should fully maximize the amount of money they can get. Still, I feel for dude. Hopefully Cuban gives Dirk some under the table money once Dirk retires. It seems necessary at this point given how garbage the current roster is.

It's still people doing these deals so emotions are going to get involved... especially in these kind of deals that aren't purely transactions but involve people developing working relationships.

Cuban, Chandler Parsons and the rest of the Mavs sound spurned because all parties involved were basically dating and almost got "married" (for 5 years)... and Deandre just went back to his ex after telling the Mavs "You're the onnnnnne, for meeee!"

instead of developing talent. So us not getting DeAndre means we may have to blow the whole thing up. That sucks and its gonna be miserable but this is the road Cuban wanted to travel.

IMO, they need to find a way to give Dirk more money if we're tanking. I heard he could opt out and resign with more money. Just as a show of respect and apology for mismanaging this. He agreed to take less money but this aint the Spurs and it has yet to pay off for him. He's a humble guy, so this is all pretty moot. Its just a crappy way to end a great career.

I really don't blame DeAndre in all of this. He didn't want to be "the man" on *this* team. I get that. I blame Cuban- but I'm not mad at him either, really. Just sad. He's the owner and this is the path he chose to travel. All risks and no rewards since 2011.

I will say that this whole ordeal confirms my dislike of Chandler Parsons. He was brought in and they've been treating him like the heir apparent. I'm just not convinced hes that dude. He sniped at Carlisle for calling him fat, when it was clear he was out of shape. He gave interviews over the weekend about his recruiting prowess and how great his friendship with DeAndre was, etc. But papers weren't signed yet, so imo he shouldn't have been talking. It was like the 2006 parade route debacle all over again.

All of this makes me grateful for the 2011 championship. Man that was a glorious summer. And secretly, it really felt like it might just be a once in a lifetime alignment of the stars thanks to how this team is run.

*sigh*

he's gonna basically have to stay a Clipper

and the fact that they convinced him to stay basically by saying "we'll give u the ball more outside of lobs" is hilarious

bc he's about to be Dwight Howard part 2

same skillset...same deficiencies...let's see if he has an offensive post move by end of next season since they'll be running the offense through him allegedly lol

They didn't convince him of shit....They told DJ he would be their thunder buddy forever....All he wanted was to be loved....That's it....lol

No...he's not...

Actually, this ^^^^ is not true....DJ makes Howard look like The Dream....lol...Remember that Rockets series against Portland? Howard was easily the best Rocket player on the floor (dude averaged MVP type numbers: 26 pts, 14 rebounds, 2.8 blocks)

Howard's numbers went down this year because of his injury....And the crazy part is his 2015 stats are still better than DJ's beyond the rebounding totals....

Not a slam, btw - only debunking that comparison. I root for the Clips and I like DJ.

on rebounds?

yall wilding...

dude is all athleticism and size...

he has no go-to post move...

like DJ...his points come from Guards that draw enough attention for him to score off late cuts or rebounds or lobs...that's 80% of his offense...

he hasn't developed a back to the basket move that is reliable and his mid-range is also non-existent

he's just a dunker...DJ is a not so poor man's version of DH

U said he was going to be on some D Howard. Which was not totally true....I gave u stats that DJ would never even sniff collectively. Is Howard the second coming of Kareem? Fuck no....lol...But lets slow down with DJ EQUALS HOWARD shit....lol....Even when Howard was coming back from that injury this past season he still put up better numbers than DJ...

or carry the team like Dwight did in the Mavericks series when Harden had his head up his ass cuz he didn't win the MVP award. No one is saying Dwight got sick post moves, but he can set his self up to get a basket. Dj has to be spoon-fed.

in contrast to the recent Donald Trump comments

I mean, nobody is going to argue big homie isn't competely racist, and probably suffering from dementia I'd suspect

but his comments didn't come anywhere near Trump's

yet he's completely vanished from the face of the earth

and Trump is leading GOP POTUS candidate polling?

WTF
