"Poll question: Are you of Continental African Descent and can also swim? "
I gotta try and find out if we as so called black people are breaking even on this. As I said before I see a lot of black youth at the pool, but few if any are actually swimming and then of that group maybe a little over half can't swim properly. My mom couldn't (and still can't) swim, but she made sure I took lessons. So how about ya'll? I'm talking head in the water, alternating breaths, swimming.
Poll result (22 votes)
I'm of African descent via the middle passage and can swim

I imagine (actually I know it to be true) when my mom was a kid public pool access was limited if even available-- so there are a generation of parents who I think wanted to expose their kids to things they couldn't easily do in their youth. Skiing, swimming, tennis, etc.
Then you may have a newer generation that for which it's maybe more about things like hair and what have you.

if my parents didn't make me, and i was never around water....i probably wouldn't be able to swim. i was just at the pool a couple weeks ago, and was happy to see Black kids playing in the pool. in the deep end. treading water and shit. as a former certified lifeguard, it made me proud. sadly it was only 25% of the kids there. the rest of the kids were standing room only. --------------------------------------- it's true what they say...people are strange, when you're strangers.
