I find it rather intrusive to inquire about someone's salary, regardless of gender. If being asked a question by a dude caused you to become disinterested in him, then I would understand, especially if you just met him.

and i didn't ask for it, he volunteered the info. he threw out a
range from his best to worst year, i think that he was trying to
gauge where i was in that range. he started asking personal financial
questions like, 'what are you saving for? family...kids?'

i was shocked that he even brought it up, i tip toed around
anything dealing with finances because didn't feel the 'relationship'
was on that sort of level.

he's a broker so, it ranges from year to year. but his lowest salary
is on par with what i make now, which may change soon.

his best was nearing 280k

that's different. i'd be bothered if i were asked that info 'too early'.
